John got robbed. He won at least 8 rounds.
John won the fight as Rocky seemed to sit out the mid rounds completely while John stayed very active the entire fight. Thankfully, he didn't get robbed of his title - just robbed of a W.
Honestly it's the first time I ever payed attention to any of his fights. Brave fighter, very skilled, but as TitoFan wrote, no power whatsoever. Not the most exciting type of fighter, but certainly not bad for boxing. Don't know if I could say the same for Rocky at this point.
Juarez brought it and he had John hurt at the end.
But Chris John won more rounds and certainly deserved the win in my opinion.
BS decision.
I watched it but wasn't concentrating properly because it was time for lunch. John seemed to be winning the rounds on activity, Juarez was coming on down the stretch though. Pretty good fight, but I thought John probably deserved it. Like I say, i didn't watch it close enough.
John is a tidy boxer, can see how he could stay undefeated at home as he's tough to beat, but not spectacular himself to watch.
Me too. I agreed with Harold Ledderman's card. How all three judges could have given Rocky the last round is plain horsecrap. My God, John's punch totals alone should have given him that round.
Worse moment of the night was when an extremely whiny-voiced Lampley said "John has game." Of course he has game, you moron, he is udefeated in over 40 fights and beat JMM. Pass the puke bucket. And Kellerman's interviews were "Hall of Shame" worthy.
I was pretty drunk and fell asleep for the last 4 rds but from what I remember the ref was shocking, really looked like he was on Johns case by pulling his gloves down when he tried to hold on(which he was entitled to because Rocky was charging in) got to watch it again to check though...
John is lucky it wasn't a 15 rounder because he faded somewhat shockingly.
First half of the fight I thought was a bit dull, I think because of the power issue. As others have mentioned he has nice lateral movement. As John got tired and Juarez started to land it got more interesting and Juarez definitely took the late rounds.
Because of the better/cleaner work John had done enough in the early rounds to win.
I actully feel a bit sorry for Juarez, another night of not quite good enough.
John seemed to be winning easy earlydoors. It was a bit surprising he went to bits so much at the end. Juarez finished so well i thought the fight could have gone either way - certainly not a bad draw.
He's probably been allowed to do it in indonesia, it appears to be a habit for him. Ref did a good job in that regards or he probably would have had to DQ him for repeating a misdeamenour. However at times he grabbed his arm as they were breaking which I found quite dangerous, can't block with that arm OR turn to slip when you're grabbed, he got clocked a few times flush from that.
i had it 115-113 for john but cant say either actually deserved to take the decision.
John fans have no right to moan about not getting a decision when he blatant stole a win off of marquez a few years back!!
I did think Juarez won the champiuonship rounds were it seemed John took it easy. Dumb thing to do if he did. But yes I did have John at a comfortable margin.
If I remember correctly, John was winning the early rounds against JMM too and he faded in that fight also. Seems o be Johns biggest issue.
I thought it was a bullshit decision and had it 9-3 in rounds to John. No question who inflicted more damage and pain come the end but as we know thats not how it works in scoring.
It was a hometown cooking.
CJ has a pretty solid chin and great boxing skills. We should see him more in American TV. But I hope he gets a good paycheck next time.
John is decent, good chin, good defense, good movement....didn't do anything really great but he did lapse at times and allowed Rocky to stay in the fight rather than totally dominating him.
I called the screw job, it's typical of Rocky Juarez and Houston...the Zahir Raheem fight really opened my eyes to what was going on there and then the scoring for the Barrios fight also disappointed me which is why I was able to say "Chris John is going to get robbed" and have such confidence in my prediction.
I didn't think John got robbed at all. I was thoroughly unimpressed with his pitterpat punches.
And I think if you weren't listening to the commentators and seen that half his punches didn't land you wouldn't think John got robbed either.
Rocky whipped his ass. Sure John threw 199 flyswats a round, but it was weak and did very little damage. Rocky was killing his body and hurt him often.
I thought Lederman's score was insane. No way John won 9-3 rounds. It was close on the cards but John got beat up.
Actually it works how ever the judges want it too. I don't give much credit for pitterpat punches. The judge can score based on harder punches, activity, who is going forward or backward, etc.
Personally I don't like guys fighting in reverse and if they don't dominate they don't win the round for me. I like the guy making the fight. In that respect John didn't do so well. I can see it being close on the scorecards but John didn't walk away with this. He got beat up and nearly put down. He was hurt a couple times in the last 2 rounds and if you scored based upon who landed harder punches John wasn't even close to being dominating.
Then how did Willie Pep, Pernell Whittaker, and Kid Gavilain win any fights???
The object of the game here is to beat the crap out of the other guy. So I got no problem with guys avoiding damage as long as they try to hurt the other guy. Basically I will always lean toward the aggressor. If they are completely ineffective, of course they lose. But if the block most of the other guys pitter pat punches and land their own hard shots, they get the round for me.
Didn't you ever play Ring King?
Straight up here....I thought John won that fight 115-112. Juarez came on late and John got away from boxing & moving instead he was laying in and Juarez capitalized big with power shots,John was swawing tall in the wind.I do believe the crowd and familiarity of Juarez was a big factor.
I think John came on in the middle but lost early and late. Didn't give him the first 3 like Lederman did. He definitely took the middle rounds. But not early for me. I thought he was getting hurt with lots of body shots early and returning with jabs. To me he didn't do anything till middle of the fight. He landed a few good uppercuts and some rights.
I recall a similar fight between Gerry "FEARLESS" Peñalosa vs. Ponce De Leon... They said DeLeon was outlanding Gerry 2 to 1 but if you look how the fight goes, DeLeon's punches were block by Gerry's gloves and elbows while Gerry landed clean blows to DeLeon's face. In the last round, DeLeon really looked as the beaten boxer running away from Peñalosa and with a swollen eye while Gerry was completely unmarked... The judges? They give all the rounds to DeLeon... ;D Blind judges...
In this fight, John was clearly outlanding Juarez and also done considerable damage on Juarez' face/eyes... John didn't engaged Juarez all the time but you can't call what he's doing as running away... Unlike DeLeon who ran away from Peñalosa...
.
I feel the same way. Juarez is a tough tough guy with tons of heart and pretty good talent. But he gets some fucking gifts in Houston.
Still it was not a total robbery. Cus they did not give the fight to Juarez. They called it a draw. Which means the champ retains his title. So its just like a win basically, they just called it a draw.
Well i saw the fight and i dont have a problem with the draw tell you the truth niether of them impressed me very much and way i saw it Rocky took few of the early rounds and then Chris took over then most of the mid and then died out at the end which is why i had no problem with the draw would not mind a rematch in somewhere that is not home Chris had it but him losing the 10 11 12 to me is what kinda gave it room for Rocky to get the draw because there were a few close rounds in that fight.
