Like a slew of Manny Pacquiao jabs.

Like a Floyd Mayweather flurry.

Like a Bernard Hopkins punch to the liver.

Oscar De La Hoya, once the most popular boxer in the world, owner of 10 world titles in six different weight classes, was jeered vociferously at HP Pavilion on Saturday night when introduced to the crowd of 6,765 as the 11-bout card's promoter.

It was shocking. It was classless. It was to be expected.

"I don't know, man," said De La Hoya's right-hand man, Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Eric Gomez. "I guess they don't like the losing. I don't know. He lost the (Pacquiao) fight; that's it.

"He's still a great champion and he still has a great number of people that love him."

Indeed. Witness the line of people eager to press flesh with him, to take pictures with him, to get his autograph.

Thing is, De La Hoya was booed even more rabidly last week in Houston, taking in the Juan Manuel Marquez-Juan Diaz fight.

Thats sad man....all those people should be ashamed of themselves. Do they even know how much Oscar has done for the youth and boxing in the state of California? Hes done so much, he deserves better. :(

Thats pretty crappy.Have never cared for Delahoya myself but that strikes of fair-weather fans.Hes smiling all the way to the bank regardless.

It's a harsh thing to happen to an ATG. Problem is that he will probably try and rectify by getting back in the ring. I hope this doesn't happen as he is one of my all time favourites.

Im with spicoli im not a big fan on DLH but hes done alot for the sport an community. Doesnt deserve that hes not the only boxer with a loss.

I was at the fight Saturday night, it was unnecessary, the funny thing though after the fight he is swarmed by people trying to get pictures with him and shake his hand. One guy actually latched on to him and wouldn't let him go when trying to walk out the arena. Oscar should have popped the guy. He is great for boxing bottom line. He put together a great event and affordable.

I like De La Hoya, he seems like a nice bloke, even if he does have a squillion dollars in his account big deal, he worked his arse off for it!

With what he's managed to do in one of the most physically demanding sports on the planet the people booing him are obviously dickweeds, or whatever slang the kids use these days.

But I think some of those who BOOed were fans of Hoya who felt betrayed and frustrated in his last fight... They might also have lost big bet money... Not throwing punches and quitting on his stool might have triggered those BOOs..

I'm sure Oscar will get over it. I've never liked him myself, but wouldn't waste my time booing him. He's a promoter now, and all promoters probably deserve a good bit of booing every now and then.

Most probably resent that he stepped into the ring with a smaller man, quit on the stool and it was all for the money when he knew he had nothing left. Although booing is a natural thing to do it's just not appropriate. Still I think the disappointed believers will eventually remember him for when he has brought to boxing.

I was there when the booing happened. It was mostly Hispanics who were doing the booing. They were also chanting "Pacquiao, Pacquiao!". They were calling him all sorts of names. I agree, it was sad to see that reaction from the crowd.

Nothing he did in the ring makes him deserve to be booed, which was unfortunate. I agree though that being a promoter (especially one that proclaims himself a saviour) deserves some shit.

I heard that the people booing were restaurant owners and chefs who were upset with Oscar and his team because Oscar didn't eat anything before fighting your crush.
Also if you're not trying to push an agenda why do you capitalize 'BOO' every time you write it?

A person can only dream to do 1/2 of what Oscar has done in the ring and for the sport. We all have our heroes, our fighters we admire and detest, but at the end of the day, how many get to see such pinnacles? Very, very few.

All I am saying is I dont think complete strangers booing Oscar is going to keep him up at night........The only reason they are booing him is because he is a successful multi millionaire........Dont tell me they are booing him because he gave up in the pac fight....It is not like he quit after the 2nd round.......

The Pacquiao beating is still fresh in everyone's mind. The boos will subside over time. Hell pretty much all the greats were boo'd at one time.

I don't think it's just because he quit. It's also because people put their faith in him and got let down (maybe some lost money too). If you recall, he could have gotten up off that stool and continued to get pummeled, but he decided to do a brainy thing and quit. I think that's what pisses those folks off. He could have continued but didn't. I also remember they booed Duran too. It could just be their thing....

It is weird how fans can turn on somebody like a pitbull then embrace him like an only child the next. Well if he needs advice on how to deal with booing then he can call Don King I'm sure. I'm sure if he steps back in the ring and wins then they will cheer him again for sure.

I don't like oscar but i have absolutly no reason to wish him or any other athlete harm...it's really not that serious. Another thing that bothers me about the whole thing is that Oscar was promoting that show. None of those people would have been there if it wasnt for him. They were not only disrespecting Oscar, they were disrespecting the sport.

I was at an NBA game sitting on the floor, the guy next to me kept heckling one of the players, saying he sucked, booing etc. The player came close to him on the court and said "how much money did you make last year?" The heckler just looked at him, the player laughed and said "I made $15 Million"....The heckler didnt say a word the rest of the game....

I find it hillarious that you guys think Oscar cares that people booed him......These guys dont give a crap about some fans booing (especially if they didnt do anything to deserve it)
