I noticed this on Galaxy's fantasy boxing thread. I didn't even know he was fighting this weekend officially a SD loss. Mijares was trying to step up into the Bantam weight class and didn't succeed.

I always thought Cristian was overrated...He lacks KO power and I was never overly impressed with his boxing skills..
He has a win over Arce and split decision wins over Munoz and Navarro........
Gonna have to disagree, Mijares had great skill as a boxer. True he didn't have a lot of power, but his wins over Munoz and Navarro were solid wins against solid opponents. I don't know who you think is a better boxer skill wise at 115, the only one I can think of is Montiel.Quote:

I agree Cristian is a pretty skillful fighter but his style doesnt appeal to me....The fact that his style doesnt appeal to me probably contributes to me saying he is overrated......which it shouldnt.....
Mijares aint NO overrated. I think that Darchinyan lost got him pretty psychologicaly and emotionally.
A real champion should and must bounce back from setbacks.

Well as a long time public hater of Mijares it just proves what I've said all along. You cannot be a dead ringer for Hollywood uber nerd DJ Qualls and expect to be taken seriously in a boxing ring.
He'll have to go back to making guest appearances on My Name Is Earl, and playing the role of the freak in any future Seth Rogan films.
His next big matchup should be a comedy with that kid who played McLovin in Superbad.

I am basing my decision on the fights I have seen of Mijares....Maybe I shouldnt have said overrated....I just was never a fan and was surprised when I saw him on the Ring top ten pd for pd a while ago...
I was surprised by this one. Mijares last two wins by Sd were close fights but def Mijares wins. The judges that gave it to the other guys were blind probably
He just came off a ko loss and moved up in weight. A SD loss to an undefeated kid isnt a horribe result. And it doesnt make him overratted.
Mijares is a very skillful fighter, but for a slickster he gets hit to much. I think he's still one of the best guys at 115 & thats where he should stay imo.

I agree Donaire can fight at those weights but I would rate him in those weights until he defeats a rated fighter at those weights, the Darchinyan fight was at 112 & he's never defeated a rated fighter at 118 so I don't considered anything more than a flyweight at this time, especially when I feel Martinez is gonna put another L on his record at 112

But for now Donaire is a flyweight & theres still work to be done there before contemplating a move up imo. Fights with Narvaez, Kaovichit or Kameda would all be competative & work towards increasing Donaire's legacy!

Probably! But he may have been testing the waters at 118 much like Hatton did at 147. As I said before I still consider him one of the best guys at 115 so that is an excellent reason to return to that weight. He may have still been a little gun shy after the Darchinyan loss, he should have taken a tomato can to get his cinfidence back, credit to him for facing an undefeated fighter in his 1st fight back & his 1st fight at a new weight!Quote:
