Who should Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight for his July 11 tune-up fight?
Granting Floyd Mayweather Jr. will have a tune-up fight this coming July 11, who should he fight for his July 11 date?
Vote in the poll and discuss...

Yep, PBF beats JMM easily and having beat the current #2 P4P in a tune-up fight will create a bigger buzz for the super mega huge event fight ahead late this year for PBF...
Tho JMM is the smaller boxer, he did called out PBF and no one can criticize PBF for taking on the smaller boxer whom he's expected to blast out easily... PBF just answering JMM's challenge...
JMM a perfect tune-up opponent for PBF...

First off, where has it been said that he WILL be coming out of retirement?
Anything concrete?

Nothing concrete yet but there's so much rumors about PBF's impending return and July 11 is the date being suggested around that's why I started my 1st post of this thread "Granting PBF will..."

ur right,I kind of assumed he was with all the talk on the forum lol. If he did come back though seing as its a "tune up" JMM would be the most lucrative opponent IMO.

Re: Who should Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight for his July 11 tune-up fight?
Everyone is picking Marquez, but i would like to see him fight a genuine Welterweight in any tune up fight. Clottey or Berto?
Ultimately any Floyd comeback leads to a Mosley or Cotto match up before any thoughts of a Pacman or God forbid Hatton rematch! I am assuming he will be fighting at 147lb so why not a genuine top 10 current Welter?

So what are you talking about? Floyd will never, I repeat, NEVER fight a half decent Welter as a tune up.

Clottey and Berto already have scheduled fights... Clottey to fight Cotto on June 13 (i pick Clottey to win this one) and Berto to fight Juan Urango on May 30...

Who is this "half decent welter" you're referring to??

Re: Who should Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight for his July 11 tune-up fight?
PBF is about money and prestige. He will take the most money and most prestige for the minimum risk. JMM fits the bill perfectly

PBF-JMM will produce decent money since all Mexican fans will be behind JMM, the current #1 Mexican boxer at the moment after the Margarito fiasco...
Prestige? Well aside from being the #1 Mexican boxer, JMM is also the #2 P4P boxer...
Decent money and so much prestige awaiting for PBF if he chooses JMM as his tune-up fight...

Re: Who should Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight for his July 11 tune-up fight?
If he is looking for a perfect opponent then why not comeback and fight loud mouthed Nate Campbell? Iffy chin, left lightweight as a beltholder, struggled to make lightweight so 147 should not be a problem and can sell himself. I think the trash talking could sell the fight alone.

Re: Who should Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight for his July 11 tune-up fight?
I voted other.
I wanted to see PBF fight Cotto before he left and from what i remember PBF was kinda tryin to avoid talks of him.
Its also a pretty good match up.
Cotto fought opposition that PBF fought but unlike PBF, Cotto Destroyed and Ko'ed them.

I agree but Berto's handlers would be stupid to put him in this fight.. REALLY stupid..
Clottey would be very interesting, but i see it too much of a risk for Floyd against a big guy like Clottey.
with that said.. i've got nothin.

As the thread topic indicated, it's for PBF's assumed tune-up fight for July 11... Cotto has a June 13 fight date most probably against Clottey so that makes Cotto and Clottey not available for July 11...

I wanna see Floyd get his WBC belt from Berto.

Re: Who should Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight for his July 11 tune-up fight?
if indeed floyd will want his return to be a tune up and not risk throwing himself straight into the deep end after 18months out then........
Joshua Clottey - Could jump straight back into the sport as a world champion and get himself firmly on the top of the ladder with a win over a durable yet very beatable joshua clottey.
Kermit Cintron - Mayweather return will of course be all about Mayweather and what a way to bring yourself back into the reckoning with what should be a fairly straight forward victory that could also demonstrate that the speed hasnt gone and he still is able to blow guys out like he would do to kermit.
Luis Collazo - Still comes with quite a bit of rep despite getting beat by hatton, berto and mosley he has been the distance with all 3 and on all 3 occasions been unlucky not to get a decision. Its a risk for floyd but one he`ll be utterly confident of rising to and collazo will have one final chance at the big time.

Re: Who should Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight for his July 11 tune-up fight?
Perhaps the biggest indication of Mayweather Jnr's come back yet...
'Reports in America suggest the retired Mayweather Jr, who beat Hatton in 2007, is ready for a return to the ring.
And his father confirmed he has started training again, saying: "Little Floyd is back in the gym but I'm training Ricky Hatton now.'

Re: Who should Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight for his July 11 tune-up fight?
PAC suggested to PBF to have JMM as a tune-up fight... ;)
"Pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao is pretty confident that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will return to the ring in 2009. Pacquiao was informed by Mayweather's camp that a ring return will be coming in the near future. There are still rumors that Maywweather will return on the tentative date of July 11 and other rumors that point to a possible September return. "I think he's going to fight again. He's not really retired. I heard from Floyd Jr.'s camp that he's coming back to the ring," Pacquiao told AOL's FanHouse.
There is talk that Mayweather would fight Juan Manuel Marquez as a "feeling-out" encounter to shake off the ring rust, and then target the winner of the May 2 bout between Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton. Manny says it's a smart move.
"For me -- if I'm Floyd -- I would fight a tune-up fight and then fight me," Pacquiao said. "That's for me, but I don't know what his plan is. He might want to fight me right away."

You know, that's a great idea. I would pay to see that fight. Campbell is a clever veteran who is still hungry for money and recognition. He has a tricky style and he would be motivated to give a strong and entertaining performance. Good idea.

That is realisitic but you hardly think hes gonna fight a top boxer such as JMM in a 'tune up'

If he fights JMM on July 11, it ain't a tuneup, agreed, but still, I wouldn't give Marquez much of a chance in this one. Floyd would have the power to put Marquez on the canvas with one shot. Against guys that size, Mayweather actually has power and I just don't seeing it be a good matchup for Marquez. The only way Mayweather loses is if he's looking past him.
While Marquez has a great style to frustrate Pac, and Pac has a style to give Mayweather problems, Mayweather vs Marquez is a terrible matchup for JMM. Marquez is best when he's up against guys that come right at him. Outboxing great boxers isn't his forte. Even Casamayor gave him some problems.

I agree with you that JMM has only a very small chance of defeating PBF... For this reason, I consider PBF-JMM match a tune-up fight aside from being the 1st fight of PBF in 15 months...

I wanna see Berto fight Collazo again. I don't really care who won the first fight. I just wanna see them fight like that again!
