Edison Miranda fights Andre Ward May 16th

So... what do you guys think? Can Pantera take this fight and put him back in a title hunt? Or will this be the end of the road for him?

It's a very tough challenge for Andre Ward who has been hurt often by guys who aren't known power punchers....Edison is like the middleweight Sam Peter....so much power and potential and yet lacking the mental toughness to get the best out of himself.

If Edison BOXED before he tried to KO guys he'd do better but that's just my view. I think he can compete for a while at 168-175 but how long is he going to be happy without a title???

Andre Ward is going to beat him IMO

I wouldnt rule him out, but it is defintly last chance saloon would of liked to see him fight Bika, but he has a punchers chance but if i had to put my neck on the line Ward takes it.

I'd say Ward, I think they've done good things with Ward even though he's been out of the limelight, probably too hyped up early on but he's come along.

I like Miranda, the guy comes to fight and has legitimate 1 punch power......I think if he tightened up his defense he can make a run.

I would love to see this fight and should be a great scrap.

I was hoping it would be in the bay area . HP Pavillion is a great arena, not a bad seat in the house really. Saw Ward walking around at the kirkland fight

This might be a to soon fight for Andre I think he should have picked someone different then Pantera for only his 19th pro fight. Why not a Sam Soliman or a Peter Manfredo jr? If this fight happens I think Edison will put him to sleep early.

I think Andre is athletic enough to beat Miranda, he's not going to have an easy night of it but Edison seems to be on the downslide.

I'm surprised not only of Ward taking Miranda but Miranda taking this fight when he could easily take on Bika, Andrade, or if he wanted an easier fight Jeff Lacy.

Every time Miranda steps up in comp he will lose. But I'm not sure if Ward is a step up.

Yeah the fight with Danilo Hauusler was so much more meaningful. :beat: I agree Kessler would of beat Miranda. But that don't change the fact that Kessler went out like a biitch when he decided to coward out at the last minute.

This is a great crossroads fight! Miranda needs it to move back into the mix & Ward needs to win to establish himself as a contender!

For me its an extremely tough fight to pick but I think Wards speed & better fundermentals will be the deciding difference if he can deal with Pantera's power!

OK for a couple of good sparring partners he's going to need guys with speed, power, and superior athletic ability and the guys that fit the bill for that are: Peter Quillin, Jaidon Codrington, Alejandro Berrio, and maybe Yusaf Mack.

I will tell you EXACTLY how it went down:

Yes, it is true that Palle has great pull with the WBA and indeed worked to get Miranda ranked high enough to make the fight for a possible vacant title. Miranda made it very very clear he wanted to fight Kessler. A vacant title would have made it that much more desirable for Miranda! The fight was as good as done. Kessler's team ask for a movie star list of demands, and Miranda's team (wanting the fight so badly) agreed to each and every one. Then, out of nowhere, Palle disappeared and returned no calls, not from Miranda's team, not from HBO. There were deadlines to meet for HBO and they came and went. Sauerland came along during this time and offered for Abraham to come to the States and settle the score. With no Kessler in sight and the deadline passed, Miranda was happy to take this opportunity and signed the deal. After it was publically known that Showtime had sealed the Miranda vs Abraham II deal, Palle shows back up and starts acting like Miranda backed out of the fight with Kessler.

So, you make the call. Was it Kessler ducking Miranda? Or was it Palle ducking the fight? Who knows. But the bottom line is, Miranda wanted that fight and Kessler's team was at fault for it slipping through their hands.

I think Ward's people are doing the right thing, its time to step up, if he's gonna be on the top level he's gotta beat people like Miranda. And if he's just got an irreparable chin issue then well it would be found out at some point anyway.

I have to agree with you on this Taeth. Ducked is way overused and often misused. Boxers nowadays aren't the old school "I just want to fight." The fights have to make business sense. There is more thinking of the risk/reward/investment factor. And yes, Kessler would have beaten Miranda. Lets be real here. Miranda is a good B level fighter but when he goes to A level he gets it handed to him. The guy does need to learn how to box more. That was the end of Lacy also. It reminds me of trying to turn a streetfighter into a boxer. They have talent but they always go for the knockout. No slipping, dipping, angles, jab setup, etc.
