Chicago Bears Got Cutler!!!!
I know many of you are not from the states and probably dont care about the NFL much less the Chicago Bears but Thursday April 2 had to be one one the most exciting days in Chicago Bears history. They acquired a young pro bowl quarterback in a trade, possibly the best QB they have ever had. They also acquired Orlando Pace a pro bowl left tackle.
I am still in shock and cant wait until Sept 2009!!!!! This is very un-Bear like.....Normally they never go after top players!
This immediately makes the Bears a top playoff contender and possibly Super Bowl Bound!!!!;D;D;D;D;D;D

Re: Chicago Bears Got Cutler!!!!
I'm fairly new to watching the NFL, but wasn't Cutler like the Broncos best player?
I'm amazed they'd trade him away.

Yes he was....Denver fired their old coach and the new coach came in and wanted to try and trade cutler but than changed his mind (Bonehead). But it was too late, Cutler got pissed off and demanded a trade.....Also, it seems Denver didnt handle the firing of their coach very well and that made Cutler unhappy......
Either way - The Bears now have a 25 year old Pro Bowl QB!

Was that Shanahan that they fired? He'd been there for years if I'm thinking of the right team. Well done man, he did look very good in the 1 or 2 games I saw over the last year.

Re: Chicago Bears Got Cutler!!!!
The Bears gave up too much for Cutler AND he has nobody to throw to. Cutler has a good arm, he is hit or miss though....he needs a good running game to support him and a good defense. He's better than Orton or Grossman but I am not sure he's the cure all for the Bears....now if he was on the Vikings or the Panthers then yes they would be the best team in the NFC but the Bears....eeeeehhhhh, I'm not sold on them.
Chad Pennington doesn't have a strong arm but having a strong arm doesn't make you a great QB....Ryan Leaf could chuck the ball like 80 yards but he was faaaaaar from being a great QB. Joe Montana didn't have a great arm he just knew where the WR's were and read the defense and made the plays. Michael Vick has a strong arm but he SUCKS...yeah, I said it, Michael Vick sucks...he never was any good at being a QB, he could run but he couldn't read the defense and he could make the difficult passes.
And Jake Delhomme....I hate him...I wish we had MY BOY David Gerrard (ECU Alum.)...that dude can sling it! He's the best of Byron Leftwitch and Michael Vick and none of the bad stuff.

I'm definately in agreement here, Cutler is gonna have a mediocre at best season IMO. Come playoff time the Bears will be scratching their heads wondering if Cutler was worth it.

The bears gave up too much for Cutler? You are crazy.....the guy is a proven pro bowler that holds the Broncos record for most yards in a season and has only been a starter for 2 years (even though Elway played there for 15 years).
The bears last 5 of 8 1st round picks were BUSTS so to say we gave up too much for a proven champ is crazy. TOO MANY FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICKS ARE BUSTS.
So Cutler is a cry baby???? So what was John Elway and Manning? Both of those guys were babies and said they wont play for the teams that had the first round pick if they draft them........ALOT of the great players in the NFL are babies.....
Cutler has a MUCH better chance of being a star in the NFL than the two picks we gave away in the draft.....
-
Re: Chicago Bears Got Cutler!!!!
I'll say this if you are a GM and feel pretty damn certain that you can get a young pro bowl QB to build a team around then I think you pull the trigger.

We almost beat the colts once. That was a pretty good game.

You used to not have the QB, now you have the QB and don't have anyone for him to throw to...it's the virtually the same problem. In Denver Cutler had Brandon Marshall, Eddie Royal, and Brandon Stokely...those guys are pretty good when you compare them to Rasheid Davis, Earl Bennett, and Devin Hester.
The Bears needed to sure up their defense more because they aren't what they used to be and beyond that draft a big play WR.
-
Re: Chicago Bears Got Cutler!!!!
Comparing Cutler to Elway? Cutler couldn't carry John's jockstrap.
-
Re: Chicago Bears Got Cutler!!!!
Elway also had: Rod Smith, Ed McCaffrey, Shannon Sharpe (one of if not the best TE ever), and 2,000 yd rusher Terrell Davis.
So although Elway was a great QB, he also had great players around him. No QB's really do well without a good supporting cast...Marino and maybe Tom Brady (pre Randy Moss) have done great without really great players around them.
-
Re: Chicago Bears Got Cutler!!!!
Even Brady before he had the big time weapons he had a great pass protecting line, he could just sit back there and look around.

I agree - So why doesnt elway hold the Broncos single season record for yards passing??? Cutler does, has only been in the leadue 4 years and didnt have the weapons Elway had....
I am not saying he is better than elway by any means but that is an impressive feat....
Orton was a terrible QB, I watched all of the Bears games I dont think you did.
All I am saying is the bears had a chance to pick up a YOUNG QB that has proven over 4 seasons he has the tools to compete and be a top 5 QB in the league, that is worth 2 1st round picks in my book. It is a much better gamble than the two first round selections we would have gotten.

Re: Chicago Bears Got Cutler!!!!
Because he didn't have a 2000 yard rusher in Terrel Davis is exactly the reason he broke the record, if they had a good rushing attack he wouldn't have thrown for that many yards. I think I heard they only had two 100 yard rushing games last year, they just chucked it, hence all the passing yards.
The Broncos have pretty good weapons at WR, Marshall, Eddie Royal.

Elway didnt have Davis all 15 years and one of the things that opens up your passing game is having a great runner.
-
Re: Chicago Bears Got Cutler!!!!
Didn't win a Super Bowl w/o him either but more likely the reason he doesn't hold the record is Reeves. I think some of yall are just being haters. We all know how hard it is to draft a top QB. The list of huge failures way out does the success stories. Cutler is a young Pro Bowl QB who has played very well with several years of productivity left. These are the facts. It is possible he may stumble in Chicago, but as a team that has struggled finding an answer at QB I think it was a pretty good gamble.
-
Re: Chicago Bears Got Cutler!!!!
Can't blame Cutler for this situation. The blame falls on the biitch ass coach. He pretty much stabbed Cutler in the back.
-
Re: Chicago Bears Got Cutler!!!!
Always liked the Bears. And Cutler, whatever else can be said about him, has the tools. If the Bears defense performs to its normal standards, and the running game continues getting better with Forte, I can see good things happening for the Bears in 2009.
-
Re: Chicago Bears Got Cutler!!!!
The Bears still need a good WR to help out Jay....Torry Holt, Plaxico Burress, Chad Johnson....anyone will do.
Elway didn't throw the ball as much as Cutler because Elway's teams had balance. Also Denver's defense sucks ass right now too so they had to come from behind quite a bit as well so they abandoned the running game.
I don't doubt Cutler's talent, I question the talent that surrounds him in Chicago. Orton could on the other hand fit in well with Denver depending on what the coach wants to do.

Yes but its pretty hard to throw for 4600 yards or whatever when you're running the ball enough to get 2000 yards with one back. It makes the passing game more efficient but its just simple logic that you're not going to be passing enough to reach that kind of level.
He can be compared to a young Elway I guess, still a stretch I think but who cares, but he still has a ways to go and he needs to toughen up.

Exactly right. Unless you're running a west coast offense, you wouldn't normally be throwing as much as Cutler did.. Even though they had a decent running game with there 10 running backs last year, most of the offense relied on Cutler to get them back in games.. Elway had plenty of weapons AND a good defense in the years that they won the super bowl, so the balance of running/passing/already ahead in the game or not far behind, resulted in less responsibility for him to throw the long ball or to throw in general.
I'm a big bronco's fan, and i can't be more pissed off about this whole off-season.. first shanahan, now this..
Cutler is an above average QB, and with more experience he could become elite. He made a number of mistakes this past year, and just needs to iron out his game..
