Not impressed with Valero
Just watched the valero fight against Pitalua ( a 39 year old who? ) I was not impressed with his skill at all! This dude might hit hard but he won't survive against some top opposition like JMM or Pacman or Hatton. He is wide open, and stands very square. I can't wait for someone good to expose his ass.

For those of you who don't know what a Pitufo is weeell it's just this...http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...egor/smurf.gif
...It's a FUCKIN SMURF lol don't think bad guys ;D

Re: Not impressed with Valero
It is hard to tell how good Valero is becase he knocks these guys out some dam quick.....
He definitely has the power and it seems he would give anyone fits because of that..
-
Re: Not impressed with Valero
Skill can be developed, speed and power is innate. VALERO has TONS of speed and power, I am sold!!! He definitely is special
-
Re: Not impressed with Valero
The biggest improvement was his hand speed. I remember the watching his fights in Japan and he was slow as sloth. Only raw power and you still doubt it because he was against fighters you have a record like 2W-23L-14D,9NC ;D;D
-
Re: Not impressed with Valero
Think he'll be a case of sink or swim with the power.Undeniably an emence one punch hitter with either hand.I think his mind set will stay that way.Anyone wreckless enough to stand in front of him and try to out tough him and trade is gambling with there faculties and upright posture. He'll be must see while he last but I think he can be reversed and defence exploited...but they better wear a helmut;D

He's not tested yet. And what I meant by that is he never fought a high caliber opponent. Right now, he's all about hype imo. I'm difinitely impress with his god gifted power. But his speed is mediocre. Most of his victories were from early rounds. Can he keep up his tempo/speed through 12 rounds? What if he gets cut badly in the eyebrow in early rounds?.. Will he make it through last round with one eye?
I'm not quite sold about his speed, stamina, and his HEART. For me, Valero is just a stalker with amazing power and will get exposed by someone like Pac, JMM, or even MAB.
-
Re: Not impressed with Valero
I doubt Pac will take a risky/low reward such as Valero. JMM seems willing to fight anyone without looking at the risk/reward factor so much. MAB will be out of commission for awhile due to the vicious cut. Everyone of these guys are very hittable so Valero will have his opportunities in these fights. But I think Valero knows the chances of getting one of these guys in the ring are low so he would be better off trying to get another ranked guy and keep prodding. About 5 or 6 years ago Pac was in this very same predicament until MAB took the chance.

Re: Not impressed with Valero
I don't know what you guys are talking about. Pitalua was suppose to be Valero's test. Until this fight Valero has not fought in the US since 2003. He's accomplished a lot with very little ring experience, because he keep knocking guys out. Mosts guys with 25 fights have 3 times the ring experience of Valero. With this win he will gets an alphabet and some serious attention. I think a good move for Valero would be Diaz or Funeka and both are available.
If Marquez wants to stay busy while he is waiting for a Mega fight to line up then why not face Valero? The unknown is always a big risk and we have seen young up and coming fighters take out seasoned veterans before when they weren't suppose to. It would be another alphabet for JMM....but GBP ain't going to do that because its about the money at this point.
The fight I'd like to see Valero take on would be Guzman.
-
Re: Not impressed with Valero
There were times when Wilfredo Gomez was wide open, and his power and skills still won the day. I think Valero appears to be wide open, but he also seems to hit too hard and is a little too quick to be countered routinely so far. If he's sparred with guys like Oscar De La Hoya and Morales, and it sounds like he has held his own.
-
Re: Not impressed with Valero
It's quite difficult to make a very good impression in 3 minutes and 49 seconds... Too short of a time span...
.
-
Re: Not impressed with Valero
I saw more technique in his style than most.
He's got quick feet and that knockout was from a combination afterthought.
He could have knocked him out in the first, but he knew this opportunity was not to be taken for granted. Took his time and it still happened so fast. When he smells blood, it's over. Rolando Reyes, the same thing. These guys would be great for each other.
-
Re: Not impressed with Valero
I don't think Pitalua qualifies as a serious test to see if he can handle elite fighters and I wouldn't rush him into fighting somebody like JMM just yet. Maybe somebody like David Diaz next. He's great to watch though, I'd love to see him go on a tear over a couple of weight divisions. But that chin doesn't half stick out a lot.

being friends has nothing to do with anything
Trindad/Jones Jr are friends and i've seen Jones with Trinidad plenty of times at the cock fights
and there have been plenty of other fights between friends
as for JMM Vs Valero, i'd say that Marquez would most likely outbox him and counter him all night

JMM needs to be careful with southpaw Valero... Southpaws PAC and Norwood successfully scored several KDs on JMM... Southpaws Jaendaeng and Jaca scored some beautiful left hands on JMM...
Now imagine if Valero can knockdown JMM... it will be over...

Re: Not impressed with Valero
Valeros def. put himself in the spotlight now.
Things are heating up in the divisions at 135 & 140.
For those who are asking how Valero will handle going deep into a fight (Although this was 3 yrs. ago) he went to the 10th round vs. Mosquera who IMO is/was a top opponent and champ at that time. Mosquera also knocks Valero down in the 3rd round.
I think the fight is on YouTube for those who have not seen it.
Jaz & TerribleMorales you guys should know by now that SaddoBoxer just likes to post whatever thoughts pop into his head without regards to the comments being crazy or randome or not.

Valero to me makes 135 more exiting. A strong division, he is now among the top guys. Some great fights to come I hope.

i think that the perfect fight at 135 right now would be Valero vs Guzman, Valero can prove he's the real deal against Guzman, and a strong win against Valero can vindicate Guzman, what are your thoughts?

Seems like a lot of people aren't impressed with the guy....then they wake up on thier stool wondering what happened to the fight and why is there a dr shining a light in my eyes....i'm not all hyped up on the guy but 25-0 with 25 ko's even fighting espn level fighters aint bad. He hasn't had the chance to look all that bad yet, he comes in swings his arms and flies back to ven, time will tell i guess.

Some of us are just naturally lazy, but if you look at his opponent's history (I didn't before your post) Edwin Valero you won't be so impressed either. Valero hasn't started facing decent opponents until his last 5 or 6 fights.
So after putting in a little reading work, I've changed my opinion to that of being more reserved about Valero and agree with Kirkland. Valero might prolong his career at the top if he faces challengers rather that facing more quality fighters at the top.

Re: Not impressed with Valero
Imo, Valero is still unproven. I surely can't call him a bum nor elite.
