Arum: Edwin Valero to fight Breidis Prescott on July 25... WOW!
Edwin Valero, THE RING's No. 3-rated lightweight, is close to completing a deal to face Breidis Prescott on July 25 in Mexico, promoter Bob Arum said.
The fight will take place in either Cancun or Toluca, which is near Mexico City, he said.
Valero (25-0, 25 knockouts) is coming off a sensational knockout of Antonio Pitalua to win the vacant WBC lightweight title on April 4 in Austin.
Prescott (21-0, 18 KOs) burst onto the international scene when he knocked out then-unbeaten Amir Khan in one round in September. On Feb. 20, he won by disqualification when Humberto Toledo bit him on the shoulder.
Valero and Prescott are a combined 46-0, with 43 knockouts.
AWESOME fight....;D

Hey Killa man, how's your vacation? Hope you had a good time...
As if you still don't trust me by asking the source... ;)
Here it is man...

Valero is a Top Rank boxer... He'll not be obliged to follow that GBP promoted lightweight tournament...

Actually there is a rule on here about posting sources, so the boss man doesn't get into legal trouble with other sites.
And it's not that I don't trust you, but I might not trust your source, in this case it is indeed credible. I still have looming questions about the LW tournament, has that been scrapped?
And vacation was nice thanks for asking.

This is more serious than you think, legal action has been threatened against Saddo himself. Since that time he has made it a rule to post sources on all articles. No reason to not post the source.

I fully understood Killa man... I think various sites nowadays love to have their links posted everywhere for some additional traffic... ;)
Hmmnn the (boring) lightweight tournament, which match-up interest you out of these 4 boxers; Valero, Katsidis, Escobedo and Reyes?
Valero vs. Katsidis will be a little interesting..

Re: Arum: Edwin Valero to fight Breidis Prescott on July 25... WOW!
Did anyone read the whole of that article. Valero's wife was SHOT at the weekend :o
Surely that merits a news story of its own :o

Yeah that's messed up, in the thigh out the ankle, how does that happen?
-
Re: Arum: Edwin Valero to fight Breidis Prescott on July 25... WOW!
We will know if Valero is the real deal if this fight takes place, Prescott will be no pushover and i actually think he will beat Valero! Brave move but it had to happen, Valero must prove himself against a genuine contender. Should be a great fight (if it happens)

Thanks for pointing that out MASTER Bilbo... That wasn't there when I first read the article!!
Tho I accept, I intentionally omitted the crap news at the end of the article about JCC Jr. against another TBA boxer... ;D Brace yourself for another "Latin Fury" PPV...

Arum: Valero to fight Prescott
It come from a Ring blog, but they say the aricle comes from Deportes Meridiano OnLine - Caracas, 15 de abril del 2009 and it also says Valero's wife was shot in the thigh and the bullet exited by her ankle? I tried to find the article but it was already moved. With the translation it is difficult to search the site.
I like this matchup a lot. I think its a much better move to put him against a solid fighter before going after the more proven elite fighters. BTW boxrec says the fight is tentative for Mexico.
Golden Boy's lightweight tournament coming to PPV on April 4 - Bad Left Hook ;D

Re: Arum: Edwin Valero to fight Breidis Prescott on July 25... WOW!
Guess Arum has a few marbles left after all .Nice match up,leaning to Prescott.I think both should just cut to the chase and fight Antillon now as opposed to later ;D.
Prescott was working on his boxing-power game with the human land shark Toledo last fight out. Will have to be very smart here.So much for a Khan rematch.

Valero vs. Antillon?? They're both Top Rank boxers and Arum smart enough not to match up his top prospects before they reached the top of the heap like what Arum is doing in Margarito vs. Cotto and the forthcoming Clottey vs. Cotto fights...

exciting fight if it comes off. Y'see Amir that's how it's done....I'll shut up now for four or five posts;D

Thats a great fight right there. Somebody's getting brutally knocked out, I'm learning towards Valero.
-
Re: Arum: Edwin Valero to fight Breidis Prescott on July 25... WOW!
This fight has me salivating at the mouth. I would not enter the ring with either of these two even if I had a gun !! I don't think there has been a meeting of two such big hitters since the Benn - McClellan fight. Of course let's hope the outcome is not the same for either fighter. I think the fighter who wins this will not necessarily be the one who has the biggest punch but the one that has the best chin and I think it could be Valero.

I've seen Brescott three times, twice he looked extraordinarily average and the other time he KO'd a chinny guy fighting like an idiot in one.
I think he goes early. If not 1, he doesn't make it past three.
-
Re: Arum: Edwin Valero to fight Breidis Prescott on July 25... WOW!
This isn't to say I think Valero's future P4P or anything.
-
Re: Arum: Edwin Valero to fight Breidis Prescott on July 25... WOW!
Valero is a natural 130 pounder. Prescott is a massive lightweight with a big punch and Valero fights with his chin hanging out. Potential for another massive upset here.

Raining on my fantasies eh.The man is ranked # 1 at 135.You can't get much higher in the heap than that. That is of course, until he gets a title shot ;D.Antillon is one I'm going all in on to become a Champion.Would have loved a Humberto Soto fight, what a scrap, but I think he is going to crash the gates when the opportunity is presented.

Re: Arum: Edwin Valero to fight Breidis Prescott on July 25... WOW!
This will be one hell of a fight. I can't pick a winner though, Prescott is pretty big for a LW and will no doubt be the stronger of the two. Would be interesting if they just started throwing bombs once the bell goes.

Ohhh that would be nice.Hopefully Linares can stay healthy and be consistant, just arriving at 130 and should be a huge factor. Both have brutal offences.I do think Antillon should work on his footwork...in spots he tends to stand in front a little much while trying to shoot his huge head/body attack. Will be great to watch both 130/135 pan out.Good fights on the way.

Re: Arum: Edwin Valero to fight Breidis Prescott on July 25... WOW!
Would love to see Valero/ Prescott! Its an excellent match-up with numerous questions & story lines.
I'd slightly favor Valero, but you never know? What a dream it would be for Prescott to roll Valero!
135 is remains one of the best divisions for great match-ups! With the likes of Marquez, Juan Diaz, Valero. Casamayor & Barrios still looming. Prescott, Peterson & Khan. Guzman, Katsidis & Reyes. Romanov & David Diaz have been inactive but still remain dangerous. Add in the addition of Antillon & possibly Soto & lightweight is looking damn exciting!

When I said "boring", I'm referring to the tournament itself Master Bilbo... I consider this tournament as a one time event only... How many fights before they can crown one champ here and how many years will it take?? Are the boxers involved in this tournament has contracts to continue fighting here until there's one champ? I don't think so... This move by Valero showed that he's not obliged to finish this "boring" tournament... The idea of this tournament is great but I think there's so many complications and problems ahead in order to complete a credible tournament...
Let's also consider that Valero is already a lightweight champion...
.

Re: Arum: Edwin Valero to fight Breidis Prescott on July 25... WOW!
This is great if it is pulled off. Every genuine boxing fan has to respect both of these promising prospects for stepping towards each other instead protecting oneself while looking for that big name. Undefeated knockout artist. I will tuned in like a purist because I know you don't have to have a name for the bout to be more meaningful than named fighters at each other. This fight will propel one and stumble another. But maybe if the winner is too good that night it will do more harm than good. As boxers nowadays are more concerned with the reward than the risk. I commend Prescott and Valero for daring to be great...even at the expense of each other.
