Witter gets title shot as WBC strip Bradley!
Great news for Junior Witter:cool:
Always liked him but he's so hot and cold it's unbelievable.
When he's "On it" he really is a top notch fighter and this is probably his last roll of the dice now.
WBC strips Bradley! | Fightnews - Boxing News Updated 24/7
Three weeks ago, WBC Super Lightweight Champion Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley scored the biggest win of his career as he came off the floor to unanimously outscore WBO champion Kendall Holt in the unification bout. In breaking developments, the WBC has contacted Fightnews exclusively to inform the boxing world that it is stripping Bradley for reneging on his promise to defend against #1 rated Devon Alexander after the Holt fight. Read on to see the explanation of WBC president Sulaiman as well as Bradley’s earlier communication to the WBC expressing his loyalty and requesting same from the organization.
WBC STATEMENT:
José Sulaimán, president of the World Boxing Council is officially announcing that the WBC is declaring the super lightweight championship vacant, as the former WBC champion Timothy Bradley has definitely rejected to make his mandatory defense against Devon Alexander, who is the official challenger designated by the past 46th annual WBC convention celebrated in Chengdu, China. Timothy Bradley won his title from Junior Witter of England, when he defended mandatorily his title against Bradley. Bradley stepped on the rule that gave him the WBC title, tarnishing the prestige, the image and the honor of all WBC champions.
Therefore, with Devon Alexander, USA, the # 1, and Junior Witter, England, the # 2 of the WBC world ratings, the organization is ordering a match among both of them for the vacant WBC super lightweight championship, with the free negotiations starting on April 28th and with a purse offer to be held on May 22nd, in Mexico City, if no negotiations are reached before that date.
The WBC is attaching a letter by the former champion Timothy Bradley, who stepped on his commitment and his word by accepting the exception made to the rules by the WBC, to approve his fight against Kendall Holt, knowing that his next fight should have been against Alexander, of who he must be probably afraid, or what is worse, following the pressures of his representatives, as the WBC was informed that SHOWTIME would not buy the fight of Bradley against Alexander, which would be a significant fact that would show the actions taken by people of the boxing industry to control and monopolize boxing.

The WBC is a joke. They are intentionally trying to prevent unification.

Re: Witter gets title shot as WBC strip Bradley!
Two sides of looking at everything, yes unification is a good thing, but fighters who work up the rankings must have a way of turning the champion's hand. Otherwise the only fighters who'd get shots would be fan friendly guys and the sport would be turned even more towards being a glorified popularity contest.
However annoying Witter may be he earned his shot the first time round by going approx 20 fights unbeaten, paying his sanctioning fees, and facing everyone the WBC wanted him to face that were willing. It would be even easier to freeze out awkward high risk/low reward fighters if these mandatory procedures weren't in place. Anyway, bottom line is that Bradley is a young guy and could easily fit in a mandatory before chasing another belt.

Alot of this was down to TV too. Bradley wanted to face Alexander but Showtime said they had no interest in the fight and Bradley felt that without TV the fight didn't make much sense financially. I can see his point. Really, Alexander and Witter could have fought an elimanator as a build up. If Alexander were to beat an ex-champ, then maybe TV companies would show an interest.

Re: Witter gets title shot as WBC strip Bradley!
Good news for Witter, I hope he can win a belt again but to be honest I doubt it.
He's 35 now and I feel he will lose a one sided decision. Like his mate Esham Pickering he's going to decline fast imo, lose this and then lose a domestic fight to a relative unknown, similar to Howard Eastman.
I hope I'm wrong though, he's a talent and never got the recognition he deserved.

Re: Witter gets title shot as WBC strip Bradley!
I get the feeling Bradley is gettin screwed over here. The WBC and, no infact all the organisations are so relaxed about things like this sometimes then super stern the other. When it suits them and when it benefits them and usually because of money and nothing else.
I though Bradley was just above average, I thought Witter just had an off night when Bradley beat him but the win over Holt changed my mind and i was really impressed with his performance. This is a real shame for him.
But Witter has his chance here. I dont really like him but he is talented, i have a problem with fighters that blow hot and cold i feel its a waste of talent and i question the hunger. I play amateur sports at a low level cuz im just useless at shit but i put everything i have into any sport i play and i do that EVERY time.
Not that any of this matters Witter wont beat Alexander. Hes done too little for a man of his ageand to me that alone shows the cracks in his fighting heart.

Re: Witter gets title shot as WBC strip Bradley!
More alphabet bullsh*t in stripping Bradley, but at the end of the day everyone knows Bradley is a good fighter no matter if he has that trinket or not... plus he's gonna save some dough by not lining their pockets with extra sanctioning fees.
Bradley/ Alexander would have been a good fight, as is Witter/ Alexander. Witter maybe a little to crafty for Alexander if he is anywhere near his best but I feel the youngster will prevail over the distance!
-
Re: Witter gets title shot as WBC strip Bradley!
Witter should win the fight and then throw the belt in the bin and fight Hatton (or Bradley) if he wants to be taken seriously.

Yeah exactly, complete bollocks! WBC is garbage

Re: Witter gets title shot as WBC strip Bradley!
Who do you guys think Bradley fights next? What do you think his chance are of getting one of the elite? I'm sure he doesn't get a come backing Mayweather or the winner of Pac/ Hatton. Kotelnik & Khan are tied up, as are Ortiz & Maidana. Urango has Berto in his sights. Marquez maybe the best possible big name option?

Re: Witter gets title shot as WBC strip Bradley!
Junior Witter has to be one of the most irritating fuckers I know in boxing..I thought we had seen the back of the Prick!
Unfortunately not:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Re: Witter gets title shot as WBC strip Bradley!
I think people are overlooking Alexander here. He is one of the most talented guys in the 140 lb division and I think he will beat Witter. To bad they stripped Bradley, dumb.

I also think he'll win but it ain't an easy fight! Witter is tough for anyone! Atleast King seems to be moving Alexander forward now!
-
Re: Witter gets title shot as WBC strip Bradley!
I think Junior will be quick for him amat....
If he upped the workrate and cut out the showboating Junior would be more than a handful for anyone..I don't see how Alexander can outbox Junior to win this!
Although I agree the polotics behind Stripping Bradley are dumb!
-
Re: Witter gets title shot as WBC strip Bradley!
Thats a shame because Bradley was a worthy title holder who keeps getting better, I have no doubts though he will hold a title again
-
Re: Witter gets title shot as WBC strip Bradley!
Witter is quick but I'm not sure he has more speed then Alexander, at this point Alexander is more active, he's not easy to hit and he puts most everything behind the jab. The boat is sailed on Witter imo, and Alexander while he didn't look spectacular in his last outing he still showed all the things that make those who have seen him so high. Witter got discouraged against Bradley, couldn't land clean and that was facing less speed and fewer punches then what he's likely to get against Alexander. He has pop though, Witter does so who knows but much like the Bradley-Witter fight and especially after, think it's just a story of 2 different fighters on 2 different sides of their careers. And he has to be more active if he wants to win.

I'd love to see him fight Urango but like you said he is already tied up with Berto. Is Judah still going back to 140 or was that just a rhumor? Torres is fighting a nobody after getting sparked, maybe Malignaggi? stopping him quicker than Hatton makes a bit of a statement:-\
-
Re: Witter gets title shot as WBC strip Bradley!
Torres would be good, maybe a Holt return. He may get Hatton if the Hitman is defeated. Malignaggi or Judah would be decent. But if I'm Bradley's people I'd be looking at Marquez!!!

Re: Witter gets title shot as WBC strip Bradley!
Oh sh*t how could I forget?
Nate Campbell would be the perfect opponent imo!
-
Re: Witter gets title shot as WBC strip Bradley!
Ha Galaxy how could you forget Nate Campbell?
Don't know if he's going to get the fights he wants at 140 though, it's to easy for everyone to avoid him.

I know Campbell is one of my favs, but I think I was looking at the super fights & Nate didn't ring that loud a bell. I know Bradley would love the Pac/ Hatton winner but so does everyone else, so Bradley needs to look a little lower cause he ain't getting the winner. Campbell is the perfect opponet!!! Now lets make it happen!

I said back in April that Campbell would be the perfect choice, I guess those close to both camps realized this too...

If the rumors are true & this fight is on then this will be a great fight! Both guys will fight anyone! I wish more fighters were like these two!
Call me crazy but I think Nate wins it!!! Taking nothing away from Bradley, he is a credit to the sport both inside & outside the ring, I just think Campbell is a badass & will be extremely tough to beat!

Re: Witter gets title shot as WBC strip Bradley!
And Sulaiman got a life long mandate at the WBC... Gooodd, After Bob L Singer at the IBF, sulaiman can screw the alphabetic order at his turn too
-
Re: Witter gets title shot as WBC strip Bradley!
This is too much too soon for Alexander. The way he looked in his last fight against someone ordinary he isn't ready for an awkward style like Witter, the thing is not only does Witter have a strange and awkward style he also has power behind it so Devon if he can't adjust will be knocked out. But Devon was a marvelous amateur so maybe he won't get knocked out but he won't win. This is a big step up. But what did Devon Alexander do to get ranked number 1 by the wbc anyway... doesn't he have only 10 fights or something?

Re: Witter gets title shot as WBC strip Bradley!
I douby bradley is crying at night over it. Those belts are about the most meaningless pieces of shit in sports outside of those stupid turkey legs they give out every year after the thankgiving day nfl games.....but at least you can eat the turkey. I agree with maj devon is trying to repeat what bradley did but i don't think he'd beat bradley either
-
Re: Witter gets title shot as WBC strip Bradley!
Not sure Witter beats Alexander cuz he is a dangerous fighter but I wish him well
Does anyone know what Witter had to say about Rickys loss to Pacman ?

Thats what everyone said when he fought Diaz, & we know what happened there...

Re: Witter gets title shot as WBC strip Bradley!
I'd like to see Witter win even if it just gives him the opportunity to start baiting Hatton again. :)
