Damn Hatton, why why why!!!
Why after catching a check left from "lil floyd" wouldnt he learn to stop lunging in? Why wouldn't he learn to put his hands up? Why wouldnt he learn to move his big head if he's going to walk right in?
I picked Hatton to win thinking he would learn these things with Sr in his corner...I picked him hoping floyd wouldnt take the easy fight with the smaller pacman...hoping that floyd would give shane the shot, but after seeing the improvement in pac's game...I'd say pacman and mosley are now the biggest threats to floyd...
Marquez only stands a chance if floyd's timing is off and manages to win enough early rounds..but i think floyd stops him late if he isnt rusty.
Let see it all at the end of the year...
PACMAN/MOSLEY vs PBF
PACMAN /MOSLEY vs CLOTTEY/COTTO
CLOTTEY/COTTO vs PBF
any of those would be fine by me...
-
Re: Damn Hatton, why why why!!!
"why," you ask? because hatton is not a great fighter--this is the sweet science not a local club; he was out of his league.
-
Re: Damn Hatton, why why why!!!
Man...what a way to find out...that was the same as PBF v Gatti...in terms of A+ vs C rated... but i thought Hatton was legit at 140...i guess it was KT's age and not hatton's ability
-
Re: Damn Hatton, why why why!!!
Yeah, Hatton was the same ol Hatton if not worse. All this talk about improvement in boxing skills. I never seen it in the Malignaggi fight like they say. He was about as straight in as a fighter could be. No head movement, no angles, left hand low, lunging punches, etc. etc. etc. He'll learn that he'll never learn to box. I agree with Michael Moorer, Hatton is the most overrated fighter today.

yeah, I think KT's age, also that he was in Hatton's home and that the ref let him smother him. now I'm opposed to over-reffing, and I think bayliss over-reffed, was too quick to come in and break them apart; hey, this is a championship, and if the champ wants to hold for a moment after getting knocked down don't be a bitch to separate him too quick. still, the reffing for the hatton-KT fight was a joke.

Re: Damn Hatton, why why why!!!
Hatton was awful last night.
For all of his talk of cementing his legacy and being the pound for pound king - actions speak larger than words.
Hatton is a good fighter but is no where near any "great" status.
It was embarrassing last night. It was almost like a carbon copy of the Mayweather fight.
I do feel a bit for MAyweather snr. I'd be pissed off if I was him.
But there is no-one to blame now Ricky. No Billy Graham to sack - the harsh truth is all fingers point to Ricky Hatton.
I think last night shows exactly why he didn't fight Junior Witter.
I'm gutted for Ricky, but you can not argue with the truth.
-
Re: Damn Hatton, why why why!!!
Ricky looked absolutely flumoxed at the stance and the speed.
He got hit and kept getting hit and still didnt put his hands up.
I saw him on the pads with that Lee Beard before the fight and Ricky was really tensing and winding his shots up, as with the Mayweather fight I think Ricky was too intent on proving how strong he is, Pac said he felt the strength but what good is being strong if you cant get out of the way of a punch and it wasnt any sneaky sort of punch either, watch the KO punch on slow motion, maybe Hatton was too far gone by that point to have any reactions, maybe he was dry at the weight and got caught cold in the first.
Hatton fought like a twat and I would say that this win yet again flatters Pacquiao b ut it was still something to levcel a fighter as strong as Hatton and I do think that Pacquiao has it in him to beat Mayweather.
If I was Pacquiao id have baited Floyd there and then, comparing their results against Hatton, make Floyd feel he has to fight Manny right away with no tune up, not that Marquez is going to be an easy fight;)
I do think Warren will be offering Ricky a Khan match should Amir win his next bout but to be honest Ricky has no punch resistance now and I could see him getting tagged by anyone now, he was lucky the bell went when it did in the first but that last punch will leave some lasting damage on his mind.

Re: Damn Hatton, why why why!!!
Since everyone is pickni on Hatto here ill like to put in my 2 cents.
Why throw a jab at all if your juzz going to lunge in hands by your chest and nowhere near your face and with your mouth open?
There you go.
oh, and why you ask....Pacquiao is juzz something else man.

Fighters do get old. They do lose the edge over the years that they once had. This happens faster with aggressive fighters and I personally find it insulting that fair weather fans like you quickly turn on a fighter who risk their health over and over again.
Hatton gets shit on all of the sudden for losing? Any fighter who takes real risks lose at some point. Those same fighters earn my respect way more than the ones who carefully craft who their next opponent will be.
Hatton went out on his shield like a man. He got beaten by another man who has taken many risks. We many never see another fighter unite fans in the way Ricky did and that alone deserves respect. Win or Lose.
By the way grade C fighters do not achieve what hatton did. Not even close!

here we go again...im not turning on hatton..my picking him to win was just so floyd would face maybe mosley...but seeing as how pac is legit at 140...not sold on him at 147..pac and mosley are capable of beating floyd...
I was simply asking why didnt hatton learn from his last fight with a quick opponent? Why does he believe he can walk straight to guys with fast hands, and with his guard down at that?
and as far as him being C-rated and his accomplishments...he beat some contenders, an old KT and Castillo, and thoroughly outclassed by the only two A-rated fighters on his resume...

Re: Damn Hatton, why why why!!!
Hatton was great at being just the kind of boxer he was ... which was not a great boxer. A swarmer, an overwhelmer, a puncher, with good speed and enough power to beat most comers. And heart in spades.
He was not a class C boxer - he was (is) better than that - but there is a gap between him and the greats. Not a sweet scientist like PBF or the later Lennox, and a scientist with speed and sufficient power should generally win over Hatton's style.
I don't know what to say about Hatton's win over Tzyu ... that still does't seem logical. That is one of those fights that depresses me.
It is rather incredible that hatton would come straight in without good defense when fighting someone like Manny. Not too smart.
But - don't blame Paq's win too much on Hatton's poor boxing skills, or you can't make an argument for Manny to step into a ring with PBF, at least not on the basis of his fight with Hatton.
-
Re: Damn Hatton, why why why!!!
It was horrible.
Hatton did almost everything that you really shouldn't be doing. Hands low, chin wide open, storming straight in, no head movement, no jab, loading up and missing with wild hooks.
Nothing was there for him and also his punch resistance was shot. Pac hasn't been blowing anybody away in two rounds. It's truly shocking that such a thing could happen at this level. It was bizarre and very upsetting. And I'm not talking Manny down becuase he did everything right. Kept his composure and picked Hatton off.
I'm still totally amazed by it all.

That's just silly... Not everyone is designed to fight the way PBF fights.. Billy Graham played up to Ricky's strengths.. And until PBF, who is possibly one of the most skilled fighters of our era, AND quite a bit bigger than Hatton, knocked him down,,,, Billy Graham's teachings weren't critized to much..
LIke I said, it played to Ricky's strengths.. If Hatton has trained with someone like Mayweather Sr from the start, he may never have even won a title...
Sometimes you have a style and ability to beat 90% of people out there, but that 10% will always have it over you...
Think of Margarito, on the night, he seems unstoppable and with his power and ability to take punches, he seemed invincible.. But Mosley showed what happens when you just meet your opposite... If Margarito had of learn to fight defensively from a trainer like Mayweather Sr, he may have never won a title either.. He may have never learn to attack his opponents in such a brutal way, and been picked off in fights....
Fact is, Ricky made the most of what he had, and there was just some guys who had the style an ability to have it over him..... No fault of Billy Graham, and not of Floyd Sr either..
And bare in mind, Hatton just didn't come in smart to that fight.. He was to impatient, to ready to put some hurt on pac as fast as possible, unwilling to take a round to feel out the speed and timing of the P4P #1 fighter in the world, and he got punished for it.. Simple as that in my opinion...
But I think he reached the pinacle of what he could achieve, and he did it by going head on with anything he came across... What the fuck more can you ask or expect from a boxer and his team...
-
Re: Damn Hatton, why why why!!!
Mayweather is not concerned about hatton at all. He is just concerned about himself. It is always about him and how good a trainer he is. But clearly, he isnt. Hatton has a lot to give. He might not beat Pacquiao, but difinitely would have been a better boxer than what he showed us.

Totally agree with you mate. Ricky is far from shot. I think this loss will do him good. He will learn from it and prepare better in his next fight (learn better defense?). What he does after this devastating loss is what define the character of Ricky Hatton.
Manny is special...

Exactly.. he's not unbeatable.. And has been clearly beaten in fights.. Why he's P4P #1 now though is how he's gone on with his career.. Moving up in weight and being as good as he has been has made him an all time great... He could have stayed at the lighter weights and continued to be a force for years and still be remembered as an amazing dominent fighter.. But he is paving his own way as he goes and doing everything he is capable of.. And if he goes up to fight Floyd and possibly even wins, and takes another high caliber fight like that, it puts him above Morales and anyone he lost to earlier in his career...

Malignaggi boxes nothing like pac. He didn't pose a particular threat. If a fighter is not being aggressive it allows you the time to try and work on new stuff.

True. He can be outboxed and outfought. You just better have a decent chin....in fact anyone at the top better have a good chin. Alas Hatton did not.
For perspective. A weight drained and past his best Oscar got beat up for 8 rounds without touching down Hatton couldn't go 1 round. :-\

Re: Damn Hatton, why why why!!!
fighting a left hander ,nerves and speed beat Ricky ,why retire he still has great record pac man has lost a few and what if maywheather gets beat do you think people will say retire NO! should retire and wanting to retire different.Ricky can carry on if he wants to he's still good enough .Remember both losses to pound for pound best. But i will say he shuoldn't fight a southpaw again he couldn't find qa way to open him up.Good luck to Ricky i hope to see him in action again

Re: Damn Hatton, why why why!!!
Hatton to me is a Gatti level fighter no more and no less and as far as chin goes he gets knocked out by pbf who is no ko master. Then gets destroyed by pac in a few rounds i mean Pac could not ever floor a shot Oscar and he was landing on him at will that all i really got to say.

I agree greatly with this. I remember saying a couple of years ago on here that the way Hatton fought wasn't conducive to a long career at the top. His habit of jumping up in weight also in large part did him in I think. The problem is he's too small naturally to move up, but he looks so drained and drawn at 140. Yoyoing in weight and fighting so many wars of attrition, it's actually amazing he had the career he had.

It doesn't take a man to stand there and get your head bashed in when you could be avoiding punishment. Boxing in general is a real risk and just because someone wants to run in forget defense and take shots to his head don't make hi many less of a man then someone who moves their head. It isn't manly to go in guns blazing thinking you can overpower a faster guy who after the first shot they land obviously hurts you. That's not being manly, it's being stupid.
Much respect to Ricky Hatton for uniting the fans the way he did. But don't turn him into a deity because he fought a stupid fight and call it manly. It was stupid, and he lost because of it. If he'd listened to his corner and done what they had trained to do he'd still be as much of a man and probably would have been in better shape then knocked out in 2 rounds.

Hatton thought he could bully Pac around like he did to Tsyzu. That's like feeding yourself into a wood chipper head first. Big mistake.

Totally agree. He fought one of the most stupid fights I have ever seen. Absolutely no self control and he had no real reason to be forcing things so soon. At least not so recklessly. Having had time to let it all sink in, all I can say is that I am very, very dissapointed in how he fought.
As much as Manny fought well, there is no doubt that Hatton played into his hands 100%. He pretty much handed the fight to Manny on a plate.
Perhaps humble Hatton really has been taken over by a massive ego. He seemed to go in there with a disregard for the damage Manny can cause and paid the ultimate penalty. Post Tszyu, he has neglected his skills and failed to nurture good habits. Some of us thought he might have been learning some lessons post Mayweather but he really hasn't. It seems to have been all talk, we saw nothing new at all against Manny...just regression IMO. You can't go in with your chin up and your hands down thinking you can beat anyone. He has most likely forgotten far more now, than he can ever learn again. Younger Hatton was always somewhat sloppy, but not utterly demented like this one. :-\

Sad that you're still bitter about our little argument about Barrera and Khan. I could not think of any reason why you give the neg rep.
Because you're once again taking credit when it's not due and once again making pac fans looks like idiots. 99% of people agree that DLH was a weight drained shell and you think it's a great reflection on Pac.
& if I could sad click/neg rep you again for thinking that I've been waiting for an opportunity to neg rep you because of some preceived slur you've kept in your head for two months beggars belief. You're a sad little man.
On my final thoughts for PAC-Hatton fight, I pointed out Hatton is always talking that people were reading too much of PAC's last fight (against Hoya) and further claimed that he could KO Hoya earlier if it was him fighting...
Big mistake... Yes Hoya was a weight drained shell, a human punching bag... That image of Hoya blinded most people on what PAC has done impressively that night... PAC was super quick (as always)... PAC's quickness made Hoya looked like an amateur... PAC busted Hoya's face... PAC inflicted the worst beating ever on Hoya... I always cherished that photo of Hoya facing a blank space while PAC was firing bombs at his side... Totally amazing...
Hatton totally believing on the "Hoya was a weight drained shell" pronouncement made him with no respect for PAC's power... Hatton became over confident on himself thinking he's the bigger and stronger guy... I remember Hatton was asked by a reporter on how he plan to deal with PAC's power and he replied "f-u-c-k--o-f-f" ... Totally wrong mind set by Hatton... tsk tsk ...

I think Jim Lampley said something like that best when he was referencing Barerra's loss to Junior Jones. "He went in there thinking he was invincible, but then he found out he wasn't."
I think the fans have a lot to do with it and people in Hatton's ear.
When he got knocked out by Mayweather you didn't hear that Hatton lost because he was always lunging in and did nothing to improve his defense and thats why he lost.
Instead a majority of the time you heard, Ricky was giving him a tough fight and it wasn't even at 140, if it was at 140 it would have been different, the only reason Floyd won was because the fight was at 147. And im sure people around Hatton were saying exactly what his fans were. Then when he beat Malignaggi he probably bought into all of it, like he was unbeatable at 140, that Mayweather only beat him because he moved up, so in his mind he probably figured why should he change anything. He didn't. And reality hit him again. The difference was, this time there was nothing that the fans, or people around him could say as an excuse to why he loss. So it's probably hit him harder

That's right. And afterwards Barrera began the process of turning himself into a far more technical fighter. He paid heed to his deficiencies and tried improve himself. Great fighters are able to do that.
It's a sad case with Hatton. The Mayweather loss was not as bad as this. Excuses could be made ie the weight and Cortez. But at the end of the day it's tough to argue against getting sparked out off the ring post. I have made my excuses too about that one, Hatton was fairly competitive for half a dozen rounds, but he was still very inneffective with what he was doing in those rounds. Never really landing more than single digits each round and smothering himself at every opportunity. The need for improvments should have been apparent there and then from the Hatton team.
But yes, unlike Barrera who went and made real changes that you could see emerge fight by fight, Hatton hasn't done the same. I was thinking that there were signs against Malignaggi, but Malignaggi did fight a mediocre fight and had nothing more than a jab to test Hatton with, so that was most likely a very misleading fight...with hindsight of course. Hatton does seem taken with the idea of talking himself up an awful lot these days. All that "I'm unbeatable at 140" stuff and in the pre fight build up to this too. I was going along with it thinking that we were going to see some serious technical developments from Hatton, but I feel I was misled. It seems apparent he was misleading himself too.
It seems like Graham was made the scapegoat. The changes in Hatton have been cosmetic surface changes if you will. Changing the trainer for someone who is known for defence. But Hatton has only paid lip service to those changes and been totally unable to internalise anything. He speaks it all very well, but when it comes to showing us the changes, it has all gone out the window.
One fight after declaing his indestructibility at 140 he gets blown out next time out in two off of one his worst possible showings. It's all very, very sad. :-\

I don't know how anyone could have possibly conceived Hatton pulling this fight off. Either you don't know boxing that well, or you were using your heart more than your brain because you're a Hatton fan.
I despised Hatton for a long time after the fiasco with the Tszyu fight, which I think still goes down in boxing history as a top 10 miscarriage of the sport of sports. But after watching the 24/7 of Hatton vs. Mayweather, I actually started liking him as a person: Respectful, mild-mannered, grateful and loyal to his fans, etc. I wanted to see him put a hurting on Mayweather like nobody's business, but I KNEW it wouldn't happen. I knew that Hatton couldn't hang with that caliber of a fighter.
To the point: Pacquiao is a phenom - plain and simple. Hattons' style was tailor made for Pacquiao. Ricky has always had a suspect chin, as I gathered when he fought Eamon MaGee - or how ever you spell that name - and got knocked down by what appeared to be a glancing blow.
In all honesty, I thought it would have been a bit more competitive with Hatton trying to BOX and HOLD, which would have been the sensible thing to do. Instead, he came in with the same mauling, aggressive style against a fighter much stronger, more talented and just a far better athlete.
People can blame Hatton; they can blame Mayweather Sr.; they can blame the cornermen, and I could go on and on. In the end, it only boils down to one thing: this was a shite situation for Hatton to take a fight against this caliber of an opponent. I think D.L.H. -- Yes, the D.L.H. that got pummeled by Pac-Man, would have beat Hatton the same night.
Its unfortunate that this 'business' doesn't reward people with character and good, humanistic qualities, but that isn't what boxing is about.
I'm just glad that Hatton lost to such a humble man. If Mayweather would have pulled such a destruction off, you wouldn't hear the end of it for a year.
I think Ricky is best served by considering retirement. Although I think he could win a title in his division again, I worry about K.O.'s that brutal and the toll they take on a fighters brain. I found no joy in seeing that happen to him. I felt really bad for Hatton and would have liked to have seen him last the full fight, but everything in me instinctually said that it would be a very short night for Ricky.
Hatton shouldn't be embarrassed, though. He gave it his best shot against one of the greatest fighters I've ever seen in any weight division. It took a pair of Iron Balls to step into that ring, and in the end you can't take that away from Hatton.
Hatton should still keep his chin high. But if he continues to box, tuck that damn thing in when fighting and learn how to be a bit more of a defensive boxer. Offense without effective defensive is easily exposed. This fight is a prime example of that.
P.S.- Mayweather Sr. proves time and time again that he's the laughing stock of the boxing community. I think Hatton should have attempted to lull McGuigan into training him. Why he chose Mayweather Sr. is beyond me, but the ultimate outcome would have been the same. It just might have lasted a little bit longer.

I was trying to get into the brain of PBF..i was looking past this fight to mayweather's return because i didnt for one second think he was retired. So i figure if hatton beats pacman, there's no way on earth floyd will give pacman a shot. So I was thinking he might just give Shane the fight. But it kinda worked out..because before the fight I would pick floyd to stop pacman late...now i feel a little different. I expect him to stop him late but with a few bruises this time. But I think that fight is a year away because after floyd and JMM fight to a 115-113 split there will be a rematch. ;)
