Was Lampley Insensitive to Hatton's Ordeal?
I thought that Jim Lampley was a real jerk last night. Was it just me or was Lampley rubbing Hatton's nose in it by making cruel remarks?
Sure, I screamed "OH MY GOSH!" when Hatton went down. What boxing fan wouldn't be in awe of such a KO? But when I saw the close up of Hatton I got tears in my eyes. I was scared for him and was in no mood to make fun of his defeat.
BTW, I was just now able to sign on

Re: Jim Lampley Should Be Ashamed Of Himself
One thing I have learned in life is that if you are going to pick on a man, make sure to do it when he's down.
BTW, i ate macaroni and cheese for dinner tonight and now I have acid reflux
-
Re: Jim Lampley Should Be Ashamed Of Himself
I didnt hear him say anything offensive, but maybe you heard something I didnt. Sure, the commentators on HBO can be @sses sometimes, but this is boxing. Its a business where a knockout is rewarded and you are encouraged to hurt the other guy. Nobody wants to see any fighter permanently injured though and Im sure that includes Lampley. When Hatton was laying there motionless, I too was concerned bout his health first and foremost. But when he was up and moving around, I turned my attention to Pac and watched the replay. The fight was not a tragedy, it was a victory. Not for Ricky, but it was for HBO.

Re: Jim Lampley Should Be Ashamed Of Himself
Lampley has always struck as a condescending azz who likes his own voice a bit too much.
I noticed Merchant dropping some big words last night and Lamps would stop and repeat them:soapbox:
-
Re: Jim Lampley Should Be Ashamed Of Himself
why did larry merchant miss an entire fight last night btw
did he go looking for a bathroom and get lost or something?
-
Re: Jim Lampley Should Be Ashamed Of Himself
I am from a third world country.Didnt catch up a thing of what LAMPLEY said....or Merchant for that matter.Or HBO...Im so lazy now, tired from the celebs of Manny's victory.
please provide me of the link for LAMPLEY'S BROUHAHA...LOL Thanks in advance.

Silverback,
I wasn't going to mention this but now that you brought up how you felt I'll tell you.
I did the usual lottery pick here at my house. $10 dlls. per round so I passed the cup around with each round on small piece of paper.
I got round #5 and my girlfriend got round #2.
I looked at her and said round 2 are you kidding me?
We has just spend 20 dlls. on the 2 rounds we picked.
I said to her I'm our only hope.
I sware, we ALL got our numbers. Except for a friend of mine who was running late and literally got here as Pac walked out. We all knew that round #1 was the last round left in the cup. So when he got there so he wouldn't be discouraged I just bummed rushed him and said here quickly before the fight starts it's the last number so he gives me the money and opens it and get's pissed he's like fuck this, this sucks. YOu guys suck you left me this piece of shit number.
DING! the fight starts all hell breaks lose when Hatton hits the canvas he was already standing up for the $120 dll. cash pot.
Round 1 ends and I tell my girl I think your gonna win it.
Sure enough as soon as the fight ends my girl starts yelling I won I won I won. I looked at her and said honestly I don't care about that right now as Hatton was on the floor and Bayless called in the Medics. I said I just want him to be well and then I see his eyes and my throat got dry I kept yelling WHERE THE FUCK IS THE OXYGEN? WHERES THE OXYGEN?
No fucken Oxygen. :furious2:I really didn't care about the cash.

Re: Jim Lampley Should Be Ashamed Of Himself
I don't want to stir the pot too much but i'm really surprised at all the posts about how hatton was treated this weekend. I know that a lot of people like the guy and were upset when he lost but damn where was all this concern when darchiniyan got clocked, when khan got his ass kicked etc....something isn't wrong just because it happens to the guy you like. This is boxing guys hatton and his fans will get over it. Just say congrats and move on. Next people will be mad cause they didn't black out the arena secretly escort all the women and children out of the arena and hold a prayer service and vigil for the guy. Just imagine of floyd lost....my gawd how respectful everyone would be....

Thank you so much for saying that. Their attitude stinks, because they happen to be fans and he got KO'd. I would never want a fighter to be seriously hurt. But that KO was totally enjoyed, and even more after i saw he was ok, and the cameras were all up his ass as he was leaving the arena with all his fans who flew over to see the massacre totaly quieted in disbelief. now that was priceless.
Cold...That was cold...

Mar you know me and I'm gonna keep it real with you.
Their is a difference between a guy whos humble and genuine and a guys just a dick.
The Dick head almost had his head taken off and flys through the ropes then has the descency to confront his opponent after he got knocked out and talk shit to him and if that wasn't enough has the balls to say "I feel I was OK, yes knockdown but I was not hurt. You give me credit then fight me (after Nonito is thanking and prasing him) you scared, fight me"
Their is also a difference between a guy who got caught but attempted to ge up make it to his feet and stumble, seconds later he's standing and drinking water with a pissed off look in his face.
Compared to landing like a chopped tree, banging your head (which is what causes the most damage as your brain moves) on point of impact to the canvas, leying there shaky, eyes rolling and appearing to be coming in and out of consciousness and being there for several minutes.
That's real talk Mar, would Vic have layed there the way Ricky did as much as I dislike any boxer I've always been a fan of the sport 1st and foremost and the last thing I like to see is anyone seriously hurt.
-
Re: Jim Lampley Should Be Ashamed Of Himself
What the hell is it about this KO that has people LITTERALLY crying over it. Ricky's a big boy, he knows what happens in a boxing ring, he knows the danger...sure it was a scary KO, but there is no reason to cry about it.
Sure Jim Lampley is a pompus asshole but that's kind of his job

-neg repped for being a douche.
It was a nasty ko. If I really disliked a fighter or their idiot fans I might take some satisfaction in a KO. But your talk of a massacre and enjoying the KO before everyone knew he was of is kinda classless. Hence the neg rep.
For the record I've never been a big Hatton fan so you can't call me on that.

Way off Mar... You're comparing different fighters with different personalitys for starters, how can you not understand that it was the nature of the KO that has left this impression on people and not the simply the fact that he was KO'd.
If you look at 'Hatton Loss KO' on box rec that's not going to stir up any emotion, but if you see a human laying limp on a canvas, with vacant eyes gasping for air after hitting the mat like a ragdoll then of course you are going to be worried for their wellfair.
Luckily he is OK but people are talking about the treatment when we were uncertain.
Why talk about Khan etc? Khan got sat down, bounced back up, got sat down again and got counted out whilst TRYING TO STAND UP. Completely different... Compared to Hatton he was relatively conscious as opposed to 100% vacant.

Re: Jim Lampley Should Be Ashamed Of Himself
I am going to change the title of this thread. I do not want to defend it anymore. I'm lazy like that.
-
Re: Was Lampley Insensitive to Hatton's Ordeal?
I always find myself torn by a KO like this one. Half of me appreciates the sheer beauty of a punch that leaves the opponent unconscious before he even starts to fall. I admit it - I'll watch it repeatedly and go DAMN!! every time.
The other half, the humane half, always hates seeing a guy (ANY person, I don't care if it's a fighter I hate or not) lying on the canvas gulping for air like a fish out of water. That part always feels relieved when the fighter finally gets back to the land of the living.
Boxing fans have to have at least some bloodlust in them - it's a brutal sport. But at the same time, it's pretty bad not to feel any compassion whatsoever for someone that could be very seriously injured. In the end, it's supposed to be a sport, not the Colosseum revisited.
-
Re: Was Lampley Insensitive to Hatton's Ordeal?
I have no clue what this thread is about.
After the KO, Lampley was the one who was worried about Hatton's condition and was saying that they shouldn't try to move him so the doctor could examine him.
What the hell was he being insensitive about?

I don't remember Lampley saying anything that bad. I was just wondering what did he say that rubbed you the wrong way?

I'll second that! Lampley did sound somewhat worried about Hatton when they were trying to turn him over.

Re: Was Lampley Insensitive to Hatton's Ordeal?
It's no big deal. Lampley just said "oh my god".
-
Re: Was Lampley Insensitive to Hatton's Ordeal?
Ricky Hatton has 12 million reasons not to care what Jim Lampley or anyone thinks.

Re: Rule number one as a fan.
How many times do you need to express your joy about him being brutally knocked out?

Rule number two around here: Don't gloat on your fighter because he will eventually fall.
Rule number three: When your fighter does fall, dont act like he's still coming back after he has bit the dust several times over.

I fall into this category as well, but it really isn't very cool to keep blabbering on about it. You seem to be contradicting your own advice to not take it personally - you act like you have something personal against Hatton. It's one thing to enjoy seeing a KO of the quality we saw in this fight - it's another thing to treat the fighter on the receiving end of that KO with no respect whatsoever.
Have you ever been brutally KO'd? My guess is no, because if you had, chances are good you would talk about it with a much higher degree of respect, rather than gloating like you were the one doing the punching.

I think lampley is insensitive every fight he calls. He has me wanting to strangle him through the tv screen, every fight, due to his very biased commentary.

Great post.
I'm a fan 1st of the sport and I love KO's just as much as anyone but when the KO cross into someone being seriously injured for that moment it turns into something else.
Art Serwano KO loss to RJJ is an example.
Johnny Owens brutal KO loss to Lupe Pintor.
Aguie Sanchez taken out on the stretcher vs. Naz (Then the jackass has the balls to say he knew their was gonna be a stretcher moment in the fight)
Jaidon Codrington laying over the ropes almost lifeless is another example of a spectacular KO which for a few minutes was scary.
I love a great KO, but I can't help it if my human sense/nature quickly takes over and I feel for the human that's leying there.

Re: Was Lampley Insensitive to Hatton's Ordeal?
I will admit that I was a jerk in my younger days. I laughed out loud when Ray Mercer KO'd Tommy Morrison.
Still, I was 18 and too cool for... roadwork.
