Although i'm not so sure about stopping him, I think Mayweather wins comfortably!

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
I don't think PBF stops him but I could see him doing what Morales did in the first fight, PBF 8-4

mayweather and makes it look easy

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
I think Mayweather would have difficulties at first, but maybe just because I am such a big fan of his, but I can't see him not finding a way to pull it out.

50 plus people have viewed this thread and only 6 votes come on guys get your necks on the line.

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
I can't bring myself to vote on the poll yet. My head says Mayweather on almost every level but then I look back about the Hatton fight and think that Manny can look unstoppable.
Realistically I think I would need to wait and see how Floyd performs against JMM to see if he has lost anything. It says a hell of a lot about how much I now rate Pacquiao that I say this though as prior to Saturday I would have said Mayweather every time without even thinking about it.
I think that Floyd will beat JMM though - just to show I have an oppinion on something...

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
hay i love your website !....but the old bulldog can't pick a fight anymore... i have lost my last 4 bets....hopkins v.s. pavlic = lost cotto v.s. margarito = lost da la hoya v.s. pacman = lost pacman v.s. hatton = lost..... i just can't win
but put a gun to my head....... i would probably go with floyd mayweather jr...... if he can get his punches off..... manny would be all over him !! from round one ! and floyd to me does not throw enough punches.

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
I'll be able to judge Floyd better after he fights JMM. No predictions from me right now.
If Floyd has slipped any, JMM might beat him. Walking away from the sport for 2 years while knocking on your mid 30's can take something from a fighter.
Floyd is now an unknown entity to me now and it is impossible to judge him until he fights again. If he has any new weaknesses, JMM is the man who will expose them.

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
Marquez beats him. This fools got the tools and relentless attack to break him down.
Pac knocks the ring rust right off his chin in 4.
I.E. We don't see PBF vs Pac ... We See Pac vs Marquez III, the way it oughtta be.

Let's hope that this time around if JMM wins, he REALLY gets the decision.

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
Mayweather relies on counter punching and takes advantage of a fighters mistakes. He fights on the outside and uses what is often his reach advantage. He has seen many orthodox fighters and can handle them pretty well up to a good fighter level. As Mayweather has matured he uses less offense but has accuracy in his punches. A page from Muhammad Ali, he probably studied him as a role model, he likes to use the rope adope. Great fighters and South Paws Mayweather has problems with. While he has great defensive skill due to excellent body control but gets caught when covering against swarmers. He was open when he used the right hand lead to the right hook from Judah. (He has to reach) Judah has less precision and has less power than Pacquiao. Hatton and De la hoya have less offense than Pacquiao. Because Mayweather's heavy reliance on the counter and heavy reliance on using accurate punches to win fights on points Mayweather Jr. has got no chance to pull of a win against Pacquaio on points. Mayweather can't stand toe to toe against Pacquiao because Pac is too fast and Mayweather wouldn't do it anyway. There is no secret to Pacquiao, he works hard and comes into the fight prepared. He does a lot of basic manuvers the same as everyone else is taught in the Gym. He just does it really very well and fast.
Mayweather has to big a head to come into the fight as well prepared as Pacquiao. If he gets his head straight in preparing for a fight with Pacquiao, he has a chance but he will underestimate Pacquiao speed, same as everyone, and his lack of respect will be his downfall.
-
Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
Watching Pacquiao in his last few fights, you have to think that anything is possible, but his is a step too far i feel. PBF is too big and his arms are too long.
-
Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
My heart says Pac, my head says Mayweather. PBF just has such great speed/boxing ability and great ring intelligence, and I therefore feel like he would find a way to beat Pac, even though I'd really love to see Pac KO him. Having said that, I may change my mind after the JMM fight, depending on how he performs. :p

False.. Mayweather trains his @ss off always.. he's always in top shape for his fights. What are you basing this statement from? Has he ever NOT looked in top shape for a fight? Not to mention, he's not had a fight in a year and a half, and he is still in ridiculous shape. He always stays in shape.

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
Assuming Mayweather beats Marquez and looks like his old self in doing so...
I'd make Floyd a slight favorite over Pacquiao. I don't think weight makes any difference, because I really don't think the weight/strength difference is that big at all. I bet these two guys walk around at virtually the same weight in between fights.
Now, Floyd would have a 2-3 inch arm length advantage, and that would be significant.
For me, what makes this fight so interesting is that Floyd could not simply outbox and outslick Manny for 12 rounds straight. Manny is too fast and too relentless, at some point Floyd would have to stand his ground and fight. I think Manny would bring the best out of Floyd.

You will see a big reach advantage against Marquez but against Pacquiao it gets nullified because Pacquiao is a SouthPaw. Take a look at mayweather/Judah and you'll see what I mean.

Mayweather Jr. will always looks good because he has the genetics. But that is not really my point. My point is his "attitude" is that he is already the best. Not that he doesn't get his body into working condition.

Do not be fooled; despite his egocentric appearance on TV, PBF takes his opponents seriously. He may mouth off about being the best and nobody being a threat to him, but when fight time comes he knows his opponent inside out and has a logical gameplan devised to nullify his opponents strengths and exploit their weaknesses. And as much as I dislike him for some of the things he says, ego is a huge part of boxing; indeed, a huge part of life, and without that kind of self-belief, some people just would not make it, inside the ring or out of it.

Agreed, and that's exactly why I like Pacquiao, he doesn't have to talk, he just does it. It's one thing to talk yourself up to boost your own ego, it's disrespectful to talk others down and he can piss off the wrong people. Or like Nike, "Just do it!"

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
For starters I reckon PBF comfortably deals with JMM, just cos one guy can move up the weights doesn't mean everyone can. Floyd will claim he beat Marquez easier while Pac will claim the Hitman.
I picked with my heart by going for Pac, but I do believe he has a very genuine chance of winning, but maybe not the favourite. At the higher weight he is defo the faster of the two, while PBF's work depends more on timing. Pac really is improving all the time and has added convincing feints to his repertoire which simply weren't there a few years ago, and couple that with the awkward southpaw style that bothered Floyd a little via Judah and I think we have a very competitive fight on our hands. Only drawback is I don't see Floyd engaging the faster Pacman and we'll be in for a bit of a chess match.

I agree with you - as I said, I'd like to see Pac KO him [though I don't see it happening], because Pac is also a great fighter, but not full of himself, which is actually not that easy when you reach the pinnacle of a sport like boxing. To summarise; I respect them both as boxers, but I respect Pac as a man as well.

I've never seen his attitude get in the way of his preparation for any fighter, which was my point.. Genetics or not, he has never been in the ring where anyone has been able to criticize his preparation.. Never seen the guy tired.. never seen him take anyone lightly regardless that he considers himself the best..
Jermain taylor on the other hand, would fit into your description. Pavlik/Taylor I for example.

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
If this was Mayweather 2 years ago before he retired I'd be going with him all the way.
But in terms of this fight I'll have to see Mayweather against Marquez first, if he's slipped a lot then I'd say Pacquiao has a shot. But if he goes in thee and dominates Marquez then im going with Mayweather all the way.

Genetics doesn't make you spar 20 5 minute rounds against Lovemore N'dou and Carlos Baldomir nearly everyday. Nobody gets in better shape than Mayweather, nobody trains harder.

Agreed, one of Floyd's greatest attributes is his mentality. He sticks to a gameplan regardless of boos and kept his cool when bedlam was going on during the Judah match, could have taken Hatton out sooner but didn't try to force th KO. IMO the natural physical attributes of speed and power favours Pac in this fight, although Floyd should be bigger and stronger.
-
Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
Pac wins by KO. PBF never encounter someone like Pac before. Pac is a sharp shooter and he will eventualy catch Floyd with a perfect punch.

Their speed is pretty much the same except, Mayweather is harder to counter. I just think Pacquiao's power allows his speed to be more impressive because opponents can't walk straight in on him nor can they walk through punches the same way.

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
I think people need to reacquainted with Mayweather speed, watch the counter right hand he throws against Hatton in the 8th round at 2:38ish or 2:30ish mark. He's going backwards then it comes forward like a blur, he's as fast as anyone, he feints a lot and tries to put more power behind his shots so they aren't always as quick as they could be, but watch his handspeed against guys like Gatti and that handspeed is still there he just doesn't usually have the oppertunity to throw punches comfortably against bigger guys who constantly have him on his back foot.
People are bringing up what Judah did to Mayweather, but even though I agree Manny being a southpaw will bring Mayweather a ton of trouble, remember that Judah is a pure counter puncher and in the first four rounds Mayweather was coming straight forward asking to be counter punched by a guy who matched his speed. Manny has become good at throwing off his heels, but he doesn't have the counter punching technique of Judah, and I wonder how he would deal wtih Mayweather coming forward and putting pressure on him like he did against Judah.

Again, like who? As far as I've seen (and Ive watched 37 of his fights, all but Bruseles and Hernandez) he has absolutely no problem with swarmers. Having a very similar style to Floyd, I too find no problems with swarmers.

Mayweather does have to reach but he did learn to avoid Judah's countering right. I doubt he would use right hand leads against Pacquiao.

Actually, I predict a KO in round 11. PAC's in-and-out movement will backfire. Though busy at first Mayweather will intercept magnifying the power hurting Pacquiao more. Pacquiao will slow down. Go watch the first minute against Hatton: he was slowing down a whole lot until he found a whole in the ever-reckless Hatton and capitilized turning it around.
Quote:

Both are equally fast, and in the Philly Shell (as I can personally relate) nothing is too fast. He can lay back on the ropes all day and not get hit by anyone's punches. He probably wouldn't do it though because he is too smart. He knows that deep down Pacquiao has an instinct to chase. If he runs PAC will chase and reach as did Hatton. He will pick and counter end of story.

Exactly why Mayweather will beat him.

This shows me how little you know of PBF. The guy puts on this lazy, trash-talking, takes-noone-serious, bad-guy act but he isnt that. Mayweather trains like someone one the verge of mad. He wakes up at 3AM sometimes and runs 10 miles just because he feels like it. I can tell you Manny is no way more determined a fighter than Floyd is.
Quote:
If he gets his head straight in preparing for a fight with Pacquiao, he has a chance but he will underestimate Pacquiao speed, same as everyone, and his lack of respect will be his downfall.
He has pretended lack of respect ever since Arturo Gatti (whom he massacred). He never underestimates noone. He trains mad for everyone, everyone. Look, he has called all his opponents bums, has-beens, whatever but on fight night you could definately see he didnt train like he though that. Dont get fooled by the act.

Pac by KO. Roach is genius! He'll pin point Floyd weaknesses. And Pac will follow every espicific instruction (unlike Oscar).

agreed, Pacquiao has foughten:
Morales - who beat him in the first fight via counterpunching. In the second fight, Morales became more reckless and stood toe-to-toe giving only a draw. In the last fight, Morales (ridiculously) stood toe-to-toe and traded ending up getting KO'd.
Marquez - not nearly as fast as PBF, who is smart but nowhere near as smart as PBF and as many thought beat PAC
Oscar - weight-drained something feirce and old. Like Roach said, he just couldn't pull the trigger, it wasnt like PAC was extraordinary it was just that DLH didnt have it anymore.
Hatton - a guy that charges in hands at chest level with no attempt at head movement
now... Mayweather - a guy faster than anyone Pacquiao has fought, a guy more scientific than anyone PAC has fought, a guy better at counterpunching than anyone PAC has fought, and last but not least a guy that is better at exploiting PAC's weakness (chasing/reaching after running opponents) thatn anyone PAC has fought before.

Roach is a genius? Maybe, but there is nothing to find with Mayweather exept trying to look busier and not getting countered. Pac follows every instruction because he has fought only guys that charge into him (something he likes). But what happens when Mayweather is running? PAC cant resist (we all know this) and PBF will turn back and counter. Its easy to listen when your opponents do exactly as you like them doing. But its hard when your foe's style is exactly what you hate. PAC beats everyone who charges into him. Mayweather wont but play on his tendancy to chase and reach, just watch.

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
I think people are going a little overboard on both sides, this has all the makings to be a close, tough fought fight. Both of them fight at an incredibly high level, both have their weaknesses that seem to work perfectly for the other fighter, both are the same speed, while one throws combinations faster, the other gets off faster and is harder to hit. Both have insane cardio and could go hard for 24 rounds if they needed to.
A lot of people expect Mayweather to run and counter punch, but I think he comes forward with his hands held high, thats how he likes to fight southpaws, and unlike Oscar or Hatton he is still really hard to hit, especially if you start throwing combinations, because he is still really light on his feet and has those amazing reflexes. Like I said Manny is so much a pure counter puncher as much as he catches you while he is going backwards. Hatton is easy for anyone with speed to counter, Paulie was albe to do it when he threw his right hand, Collazo did it all night, as did Mayweather. If you have the speed to react to Hatton he is wide open for the counter. Against Oscar, Manny didn't counter as much as move away and attack when Oscar was chasing. I personally consider counter punching when you slip a punch and connect solidly ala Roy JOnes Jr. Judah has as good of countering skills as anyone when he is a) sharp and b) throwing punches. I could see Mayweather coming forward and not giving Pacquiao the oppertunity to get off punches. LIkewise I can see Pacquiao throwing 10 punches where Judah woudln't throw anything and force Mayweather to be defensive and win on aggression and output.

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao who wins?
I voted for Mayweather. Pacquiao needs to slow his roll.
Some people reason that Manny beat Hatton faster than Mayweather did, which means Pac-Man could handle Floyd. My cousin is spewing that bile everytime we talk about last Saturday.
Mayweather is cautious. The last thing he wants his to get punched in the face. Hatton and Pacquiao are both wrecking balls. It makes a difference, friends.
Besides the fact that Hatton and Pac-Man went it at like bulldogs, it wasn't that long ago that Hatton fell face first into the ringpost on his way to the canvas. I believe that if Hatton had fought Pacin 07 instead of Pretty Boy he would have faired much better and may have won it outright.
