After his two-round demolition of Ricky Hatton, it’s pretty difficult to make Manny Pacquiao an underdog against anyone in the fight game today. Even against someone as skillful as Floyd Mayweather Jr.

In fact, I believe that the immensely-improved Pacquiao of today will beat little Floyd should they eventually meet inside the ring. And there’s too much money involved in this particular fight for it not to happen.

Despite Mayweather’s immaculate fight record, he is not unbeatable. And Pacquiao’s speed and improved boxing skills will give Money, well, a run for his money.

Three years ago, Mayweather fought Zab Judah for the IBF welterweight title. The fight turned ugly before the end of the 10th round when Judah hit Mayweather with a low blow. This led to an ugly melee in the center of the ring as Floyd’s uncle/trainer Roger Mayweather and Zab’s father Yoel Judah almost came to blows. Eventually, security was able to restore order and Floyd won the fight by unanimous decision. However, before the ugly incident, Judah’s speed was giving Mayweather fits. And this was because of Judah’s sleek, southpaw style.

Sure, Pacquiao is not one of the sleekest southpaws out there, compared to, say, one Pernell Whitaker. But he is not the one-dimensional left-handed slugger that lost to Erik Morales in their first fight four years ago, either. This Pacquiao is a more complete fighter as we saw in his last four fights. He now has a powerful right hook to complement his vaunted straight left, he is an elusive target with his improved head and lateral movement, and although he is not a defensive whiz compared to Mayweather or Juan Manuel Marquez, Pacquiao’s improved footwork and superb foot speed makes him a fleet-footed gazelle inside the ring— a far cry from the bull rushing and come-forward Pacquiao of old.

Then there is the activity factor. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is coming off his second retirement, and his last fight was against Ricky Hatton almost two years ago. While Mayweather has been inactive from the ring, Pacquiao has been fighting against bigger and stronger opponents and winning impressively against them. Not only that, Pacquiao seems to be able to defy the odds by bringing his power and speed with him with each weight division he climbs.

Another thing to note is the way both fighters handled Oscar De La Hoya and Hatton respectively. In their fight, De La Hoya gave Mayweather all he could handle and even managed to go the distance against Floyd. Pacquiao, on the other hand, forced De La Hoya to quit on his stool after eight rounds of punishment. Of course many will argue that De La Hoya was a shell of his old self and was even dehydrated on the day of the fight. But we have to give Pacquiao the credit he deserves for climbing up several weight divisions to welterweight and battering the much bigger De La Hoya into retirement.

And what about Hatton? The Hitman climbed up to Mayweather’s weight division and Floyd needed 10 rounds to finish him off. Pacquiao fought at Hatton’s weight class, a weight class where the Hitman was undefeated. The Pacman destroyed Hatton in two rounds.

The way I see it, if the fight pushes through, Pacquiao will pressure Mayweather with lightning combinations. Mayweather will use his defensive skills to try to fend off Pacquiao’s attacks, all the while trying to counterpunch, but to no avail. Mayweather is quick, but Pacquiao is quicker. Mayweather is naturally bigger and he is strong, but Pacquiao will be the stronger puncher. Mayweather is a defensive whiz but it won’t be enough against a pinpoint puncher with a lot of pop.

Pacquiao will make Mayweather look like an amateur.
Pacquiao, the more aggressive fighter (and this time, he will fight with controlled aggression) will force Mayweather to fight a defensive fight all night long. The Pacific storm inside the ring will overwhelm the Pretty Boy.

On the other hand if Floyd performs well and the time away has'nt affected him...He will pick Manny off at will!!

Good article actually...but this is just another in a series of articles that will claim whoever the current opponet of floyd is will win and here's 25 foolproof reasons why, shit that's how 24/7 got created (yes by that little prick floyd) in the first place. Just bring up all the old articles and posts scratch out the name put whoever he's fighting now and boom all of our 49.95 hopes up of floyd loosing again...I know one thing for sure if manny does beat floyd it won't be cause he was weight drained and leaking blood in the ring or cause he doesn't want his shiny gloves in front of his face. Pac would definatly be the man at that point......but would the same credit be given to floyd. Of course not it'll be on to the next guy who just won and claims he can do it. Pacquiao's boxing skills are just basic. Good, yes, but basic. Nothing better for PBF than a basic fighter. Speed has never been an issue for Money Mayweather. If it weren't for the fact that he is southpaw, Floyd would beat him pretty easily.

No it wasnt. It was because Judah was hurt and on the verge of going down. So he gets dirty to save himself like he said he would. Mayweather only had problems in the early rounds, he dominated Judah for the rest. Plus Judah is sleek and smart something Pac is not.

Yes he has improved but he is still a basic fighter nonetheless. His technique still has gaps that Hatton was nowhere near capitilizing on but Mayweather will be picking all night long. Pacquiao has better defense but nothing near preventing him from the pin-point counterpunches Mayweather will be landing all night. He hasn't bull-rushed lately because he hasnt been tempted into it. Floyd will hit and run frustrating Manny who WILL chase and Floyd will counter. Mayweather is a genius at frustrating his opponents and Manny will be no different.

Again he fights a zero-defence Hatton and a weight-drained Oscar (I'll give it to him, he beat them in spectacular fashion). But power won't matter when nothing lands. And speed doesnt seem to be fast enough to hit Floyd. When PBF adjusted to Judah (who is faster) he didnt get hit.

Firstly, styles make fights. Secondly, Oscar fought at a much lighter weight, was older, and dehydrated, much different than the one Floyd fought. Most go the distance with Floyd: he's just not a powerful puncher, he will outbox you and win by decision. On fight night too, DLH was lighter than Pacquiao, he was that dehydrated.

Please, Pacquiao is not quicker than Mayweather. They are pretty much equal. Manny won't land and there is no way he is fast enough (or defensive enough) to avoid the precise counterpunchers from Pretty Boy. Again strength doesnt matter when nothing lands. Pacquiao is a pinpoint puncher? Against a Hatton who attempts zero head movement while charging forward, yes.

haha Nobody makes Floyd look amateur, you cant. He's a P4P, he wont look amateur. Im not saying Mayweather will make PAC look amateur either. These guys are/were P4P #1, they arent going to look amateur. Who says he will fight with controlled aggression. Mayweather is the master at disrupting his foe's rythm and making them reckless. Considering Manny has the history for it, I am expeting him to revert and get KO'd in the 11-12th. Mayweather makes a perfect blend of countering and defense. You might be right about the rustiness bud. In that case I see Floyd getting in the groove and taking control by about the 5th or 6th round.

The big difference between PAC and Floyd, is that Floyd is multi-dimensional. It's one thing for PAC to beat the snot out of a guy who just charges in head first, but we'll see how PAC does when he fights a top athlete with tons of savvy, who knows how to adapt to the situation and present different game plans.

Gotta admit... I'm 0 for 2 in predicting the last two Pac fights.

I was ROOTING for Pac to KO Oscar, but thought Oscar had pulled off a marketing masterplan by fighting the much smaller Pac... so I dreadfully predicted a DLH win. Happily, I was wrong.

I was ROOTING for Pac to KO Hatton, but was SURE this time that Pac had bitten off more than he could chew, with the naturally bigger Hatton, who was not quite as over-the-hill as DLH turned out to be. Again, I dreadfully predicted a Hatton win (and braced for the silly # 1 p4p arguments). Happily, I was wrong again.

Now I'll be rooting for Pac against PBF, who seems to think that boxing is hanging on his every word, and acting like the # 1 p4p is his birth right. Difference is..... I won't bet against Pac on THIS one.

Manny hasn't faced a fighter like Floyd and Floyd hasn't faced a fighter like Manny. Pac's style is NOT basic, and he is far from predictable. Aside from that, Manny's countenance before fights is unbelievable. While many fighters put on a scowl to project toughness, Manny is always unbelievably relaxed, smiling and even joking around. The only pre-fight scowl I've seen on him was Morales III. It shows his mental preparation and state of mind. It will be a good fight. I think Manny is faster than Floyd, and the Zab Judah fight is a very good guage of how this fight will turn out. Manny's state of mind, focus and tenacity is much more than Zab's or anybody that Floyd ever faced. I think Manny can KO Floyd because he is now a two-fisted fighting machine and with much improved defense. I can't see how Floyd can hurt Manny if he hardly stands still. In a blink of an eye, Manny can hit him with a left and disappear from view. All mayweather can do is fight backing up with his shoulder-roll. But knowing Floyd, he can adjust. It remains to be seen how Manny makes out of Floyd's shoulder roll. For the first time in his career, Mayweather will feel the hurt- bloodied nose and all, even if he wins.

I will 100% give Mayweather credit if he beats Pac - This fight is more than legitimate in my opinion...

However, Mayweather will not walk away from this fight with the "W" - Pacquaio is virtually unbeatable at this stage of his career. I implore you to not to doubt what Pacman is capable of against PBF...

Floyd has the advantage in this fight since he is a defensive master and is good at not getting hit. Pacquaio isnt and gets hit alot. I think that will be the difference in this fight. I think the fight will be very competitive in the first 6 rounds with Pac forcing the action and Floyd countering but in the middle and late rounds Floyd will pull ahead....IMO

I dont see a KO in this fight. Floyd on close decision.

The bigger difference is that Floyd is significantly bigger than Manny in reach and height. A good big man beats a good small man. That is the difference. Why do you think Roach wants the fight at 143?

Let me ask two questions: (1) all things being equal regarding previous victories etc., does a win do more for Pac or PBF's legacy? The answer is easy: Pac's legacy because he would be beating a bigger, former #1 p4p fighter whereas Floyd would merely be beating a smaller #1 p4p fighter. (2) Who will be the betting favorite for this fight?

The only advantage I see for Pac is that one of the criteria for judging a round is effective aggression. Floyd, as of recent, has not been aggressive whereas Pac's aggression has been highly effective. There is the potential for Pac to win rounds based on this alone.

I have mixed feelings about this debate. I have never been a huge Floyd fan. I have always stated he is the most skilled and fluid fighter in recent years...but his resume has always made me question his legacy. He has fought some very solid fighters...but he never seemed to be involved in fights against PRIME, GREAT fighters. Now, whether that is his fault or not...is debatable. As for Pac, no question he has tremendous courage...he has fought some of the best fighters in the business and has improved dramatically from when he first burst onto the scene. THAT BEING SAID however...i really think people have bought too much into his recent wins over Oscar and Ricky. Don't get me wrong...the man went up in weight and took a risk...and came out on top in spectacular fashion...mad respect. But sometimes things just fall into place for someone. Yes, Manny has improved. But Oscar was a shell if himself in their fight. And Ricky...well, as much as i like his character, the man is not only one dimensional...but his ballooning in weight over the years didn't excatly make him into the force some made him out to be. To get a better sense of how Pac would do against Floyd...you have to look at the Pac vs. Marquez fights. Marquez is a skilled, counter puncher. Marquez is certainly no young buck...but i personally had both his fights with Manny as AT LEAST A DRAW. And as great as Marquez is...he is not anywhere close to being the athlete and skilled defensive fighter Floyd is. Having said all of this...i think this will be a great fight. Floyd has never fought such a prime, CONFIDENT, and great athlete like Manny. But knowing Floyd is incredible with his physical preparation...i think he would come into this fight wanting to cement his legacy. And Manny has NEVER fought someone as fluid, skilled, and intelligent as Floyd. But i think some people are so excited over Pac Mania...they just think Pac is going to roll over everyone he faces. Not going to happen. Hope we get to see this fight!

People truly underestimate Floyd's power. I think he would and could hit Pacquiao harder then he has ever been hit with his punches. I think he hits harder then Marquez especially if they fight at 143 I honestly believe Mayweather hits harder then Marquez, he knocked out Hatton going backwards with a left hook, I don't care what anyone says that was impressive. Pacquiao hits very hard for his weight but I don't think he'll be hit with as many shots as Mayweather would hit him with. I think I can know that if it was Mayweather hitting him instead of Marquez in those fights Pacquiao probably would have been stopped. No disrespect to Pacquiao but had that been Mayweather hitting him, it would have been over within 10 rounds
