Re: Matchroom Boxing: Cruiserweight Prizefighter Draw Announced
I was hoping to take Francis on (obvious he would be the favourite) because I don't think the format or step-up in weight will particually suit him, but he's the only one with any form coming into it.
Scrap, hows Dunstan doing? He's a 6/1 shot... could be worth some shrapnel

Chris Okoh was on a bad run coming into that fight . He was winning but looking poor and the Corbett fight was supposed make his name. Instead it ruined him.
Darren then had that fight with the currnet British champ Rob Norton, alot of clowning and holding in that fight, then Bruce Scot also in this prize fighter knocked Corbet out.
This is by far the best prize fighter cuz its all the old names I used to watch when I was at school getting 1 last shot . Im surprised Deans fighting in it though cuz its a step down for him . He just knocked out Oakey for teh British title at light heavy.

Very starange that Francis i read a few months ago he was in line to fight for the wbo 175 belt in Germany what happened there?

Francis vs Simpson -
Not sure this prize fighter suits Dean.He is a supermiddle and he never liked working at pace. He was a slow starter vs Oakey last time and a decade ago Mark Baker made him fight at a tempo he didnt like. I think he may live to regret giving up his belt but he should have enough to get past the Coventry Journeyman.
Keaton vs Scot -
Ive seen alot of both guys and got chatting to Scott at the Hatton -Rowland fight at the velodrome. Even though Keatons been knocked out twice by Scot im gonna lean towards the underdog pulling off a shock. 3rd time lucky. Lat time he just kept on coming forward non stop and got tagged eventually but over 4 rounds I fancy his style to be too much for a ring rusty Scott. I'll be cheering for Bruce though, I was backing him vs Nicky Piper when his eye swelled and he went on to do the same thing to Delaney .He floored Enzo but got knocked out.
Dunstan - Mckenzie
Terry was once a fringe world class fighter . He beat Gurov in seconds and Haye did the same thing a decade later . He was awful when he got beat by Immamu Mayfield and after the Thomspon double knockdown KO loss we didnt hear from him again . I expect he wont be in any fighting condition here but should get past the 1st round if his chin holds up
Corbet - Steeds
Darren said he was gonna be the 1st guy in history to win titles coming down in weight. Never happend and his glory night was the Okoh fight . for 4 rounds he will be a handful but I remember he couldnt knock out a Belgian guy that Johhny Nelson sparked in a round so I dont think hes a massive hitter .
Anyone know where this is being held? I might go

Re: Matchroom Boxing: Cruiserweight Prizefighter Draw Announced
I hope Dean Francis wins, his shoulder is still dodgy but he can win this and earn some money.

He has had a few fights since the Undra White fight and it seems Okay. Carl Thopmson, Danny Williams and Vitali havent looked back since their shoulder gave out on them.
Dean has to be odds on but im not convinced his style is suited to prizefighter. He predicts he will win every fight with a 1 round KO. He was probably just being cheeky but its gonna be tough to knock out naturally bigger men who will be fresh.

Have you seen him since that fight? He has no confidence in his right arm. Apart from against Oakey, when he was forced to throw the right because of the pressure he was under, he fights almost exclusively with the left.

Re: Matchroom Boxing: Cruiserweight Prizefighter Draw Announced
The 6/1 about Dunstan is long gone. ;)

Agreed he is very tentative with his right and I bet he will hardly use it. Fortunately for him he can win it with one arm.

Yeah Dean should be favourite but can you see him fighting all out for every minute ? He usually takes afew rounds to find his range. Tony Oakey would be a decent prize fighter .
I wanted to go to this but I gotta be in Leeds 1st thing in the morning . It should be the best prizefighter yet . Looking 4ward to it.

Re: Matchroom Boxing: Cruiserweight Prizefighter Draw Announced
I think Darren Corbett just might win this. I hope Dean wins though, because he's retiring if he doesn't and the guy has so much more to offer the sport and just needs to to grow into the Cruiser limit. I can't see how this format will suit him though, he's a slow starter.

Re: Matchroom Boxing: Cruiserweight Prizefighter Draw Announced
The scoring of the Scott fight was dodgy. One judge gave him 27 points so they dont think he won a round ? even though he clearly took the last two. Not to mention the KD in the 1st round was a slip.
Looks like we have a bunch of benders judging so lets hope we see some KOS
Dean looked good
-
Re: Matchroom Boxing: Cruiserweight Prizefighter Draw Announced
Yeah Francis looked different gravy. Must be a huge favourite now. So much for the format not suiting him. ;D
-
Re: Matchroom Boxing: Cruiserweight Prizefighter Draw Announced
Dunstan looked like an old inactive fighter unfortunately. :-\
Corbett is still a crazy funker. ;D
-
Re: Matchroom Boxing: Cruiserweight Prizefighter Draw Announced
It went the way I thought apart from Keeton beating Scott. I thought Scott would have too much for him.
I think Francis vs. Corbett for the final.
-
Re: Matchroom Boxing: Cruiserweight Prizefighter Draw Announced
Holy shit! Francis is out!
I swear I've been dead on with predictions lately. I nearly put a bet on Corbett to win. If he wins, at 7/1, I may cry.
-
Re: Matchroom Boxing: Cruiserweight Prizefighter Draw Announced
What the fuck happened to Francis there?
Bloody hell!!!

I backed Keeton to beat Scott and Corbett to beat Steeds.
But my outright bets were Dunstan and Francis ;D  ;D
-
Re: Matchroom Boxing: Cruiserweight Prizefighter Draw Announced
I broke the trend. Thank god.
My girlfriend, who knows little about boxing said she thought Keeton or McKenzie would win because she liked their names. Just heard if we'd guessed that would be the final it was a 50/1 shot. She is pissed now because she told me to go put a fiver on that!
-
Re: Matchroom Boxing: Cruiserweight Prizefighter Draw Announced
stopped betting on these ages ago... Francis went down far toooooo easy for my liking.
i'd have prob bet on Corbett for nostalga stakes but looks like i done the right thing not betting. :-X

Re: Matchroom Boxing: Cruiserweight Prizefighter Draw Announced
Brilliant atmosphere last night !
I thought it was silly having championship fighters slug it out over 3 rounds tey have to settle and force a hard pace which is clearly not to everybodys liking .
I swear I coulda sent a carrier pigoen to Dean Francis informing that a right hand was winging his way , I couldn't believe it when it landed .
Send the restless Natives of the Republic of sheffield into raptures .
Thought Dunstan beat Ovil, Ovil crowded and didnt even look where he was punching , Dunstan still has it to offer but after the knockdown you knew he'd have to win by Knockout cos they never score these contests a draw .

You should watch that Dunstan fight again, because he barely landed a punch. It was a one sided, clear decision.

I think you might be right ,watching it from the back of the hall is not as good as watching it on TV , how my immpression of wat happened changed .

Re: Matchroom Boxing: Cruiserweight Prizefighter Draw Announced
I think the Bottom line was we didnt respect ovill, we were more interested who He was Fighting next. Well done Ovill Great result, dont spend it all at once and Happy Birthday Buster. ;D
-
Re: Matchroom Boxing: Cruiserweight Prizefighter Draw Announced
It turned out you were a bit unlucky to draw the fastest fittest guy first, scrap. ;D
One of the slower bigger guys first up might have given you a better start.

Re: Matchroom Boxing: Cruiserweight Prizefighter Draw Announced
Probably Fenster, Ill pm you when Ive got time ;D

Re: Matchroom Boxing: Cruiserweight Prizefighter Draw Announced
Ovil came on the Buncey show, seemed a good honest humble guy. He said the Dunstan fight was the hardest and that he was knacked in the last round in the final. He also said he is going down to light heavy and he can make super middle.
