I would give Floyd credit for beating Marquez,just not as much credit as some.
Afterall he is fighting a 35year old career feather/superfeather who has jumped 3 divisions in 3 fights.Surely this takes away some kudos

It seems Juan Manuel Marquez's chances of winning on July 18th are even slimmer. Forget all you've heard and read about the Mexican great's bout against Floyd Mayweather Junior being a catch-weight affair being fought at 143 or 144 pounds. According to Ring Online, in a news piece that went up late last night, the fight in Las Vegas will actually be fought at welterweight, with the limit, of course, being 147 pounds. Talk about an even taller order for the future Hall of Famer who goes by the nickname of "Dinamita!"

According to Ring, the returning Mayweather Junior is better than a three-and-a-half to one betting favourite. For although it remains to be seen if the 39-0(25) master will be affected by his months of inactivity when he steps into the ring at The MGM Grand in less than two month's time, the sheer size advantage "Money" will hold has swayed the bookmakers, and they think he will certainly emerge the victor..

Marquez, however, as gutsy as they come, is undaunted about any advantages Mayweather may hold over him, and he is positive he can shock the odds and win the fight that is being hyped up right now.

Ring reports that Marquez has been training in the Toluca Mountains in his homeland, and that the 35-year-old has been adding muscle to his frame.

"We're doing a lot of strength training," Juan Manuel said. "Building my body, building muscle. We're working out, believe it or not, lifting heavy rocks. We're just trying to get my body right for this fight."

Marquez realises what many people have been saying, pertaining to him having very little chance of winning on July 18th. But he is unconcerned.

"People have a right to say whatever they want," Marquez said. "That's what's motivating me right now. I'm confident. It motivates me to shut their mouths.

"I have a great chance to be the next idol in Mexico."

It is becoming the fighting hero of his country that perhaps motivates Marquez, the former featherweight, super-featherweight and lightweight king, more than anything. The Mexican people love their boxing, and if Marquez can upset Mayweather he will be ranked right alongside any great Mexican warrior you care to mention - and he will feel proud for the rest of his life.

Yes, this news of the bout being fought at full welterweight makes the mountain an even tougher one for Marquez to climb, but it wasn't too long ago we were all downplaying Manny Pacquiao's chances against Oscar De La Hoya and others due to his giving away so much natural weight. Such thinking, after what the former 107-pounder was able to do against Oscar and Ricky Hatton, has been totally forgotten.

Maybe Juan Manuel Marquez is yet another fighter who is able to win against naturally bigger men and continue doing so?

I agree with him being an elite level fighter.
I just think 144/147 is just too high for him,especially against a fighter of Mayweathers calibre.

I hope not, I can understand at 147 he could be out of his depth. We will see, if its the Marquez I know he will be putting heart, passion and will power on the line and will perform even at the higher weight

Maybe PBF was a little heavier than thought since his layoff. But still PBF and JMM aren't that different in size. I think PBF should have made it at 143 or 144 because that wouldn't drain him. He is still a little welterweight. But I give this to JMM for being the warrior he is. Pac has nothing on JMM since they've last fought. JMM is fighting no matter what. He is fighting the top guys at their weight. He definitely has the p4p #1 heart in the sport. The guy will fight anyone and since he has moved up he has gotten more powerful. He has stopped 2 top guys who have never been stopped before. And Casamayor has been in there with some bangers. PBF should win but I will in no way be surprised if JMM makes this fight interesting.

Doubt it can happen but would love for marquez to ko/tko floyd would be an awesome birthday present since the fight falls on my bday. I really don't think this will be a walk in the park for floyd however and see it as one of his toughest fights perhaps if jmm is nearly as effective at 147 as he is at the lower weights. Stranger things have happened

One of your better posts. Marquez will be competitive. The weight doesn't really mean much cuz in reality Marquez doesn't have to come in at that weight. He will come in around 142 to 144. Whatever he feels comfortable in.

He's already a 4 to 1 favorite to defeat JMM at 143 and then he still allowed this fight to have a limit of 147 which in effect will give him huge advantage in the size department... JMM was only fighting at 140 on the night of his last fight...

First I consider this match-up as a tune up fight for PBF, now it becomes a joke tune-up fight...

JMM could be a special fighter if he overcomes the heavy odds and defeat PBF... Team JMM is also composed of special persons for allowing this much disadvantage to take place... Team JMM made a horrendous mistake before for having JMM fight the slick champion Chris John in John's hometurf for cheap change... Hope they will not have the same horrible result this time around (the much much bigger PBF knocking out JMM)...

That's cuz Marquez has great heart. He won't be denied. It's the reason why Pac avoided a 3rd fight with him. One of the few things Mayweather and Kenny agreed on was Marquez beat Pac twice.

I think there's already a big advantage in size in favor of PBF even at 143... I've mentioned that JMM's highest fight night weight is only 140... So PBF will definitely enjoy bigger size advantage at 147...

Additional advantage in size just become HUGE because it's coupled with the other advantages PBF enjoys over JMM... 5" of freaking reach advantage... PBF can just pot shot JMM and dance to decision victory with that reach advantage coz he has the skill to go with it... How about the height advantage?? The age/youth advantage?? Can you give me just one tangible advantage JMM has over PBF?? I think there's none...

Yes the 1" height advantage will surely be a decided advantage and such huge differences in height are such a rarity nowadays. Age advantage? Marquez advantages, he's been active fighting the best fighters available to him. He doesn't have to worry about ring rust.

Shite the weight aside...which I do see as relevant.Just look at the resent history for both.Marquez will debut at 140 + :vd: against a refreshed,sitting idle off long layoff Mayweather,haaaad to be in training,who last we saw was showing no effects of wear and tear or decline......Marquez has been in 3 or 4 straight harsh battles and I think his counter-sharp shooting style will be badly effected all things combined.I just cant get passed seeing him slowed,packed to tight and a bit stiff weighing anything near 140ish.He will have to play the aggressor,charge forward all night...Floyd will be the one countering.Comparitivly.....and save the Manny hater mantra....Pac brought the weight on vs. a badly drained and declined Oscar at that range.Very much want Marquez to spring the upset,he does not know the word 'cannot',one of the greats of out generation and will not just roll over nor cave.

Yes that's armspan or wingspan or reach, that's 5" reach advantage to PBF... Why do you think BoxRec labeled that thing as "reach" if it's not reach dumbass?? The one you're trying to refer at, is arm length which is in the range of 20" to maybe 28" for most boxers...
