Hopoate Ko'd By Oliver MccAll
Well Aussie "boxer" John Hopoate travelled to the USA to make his name by fighting 44 Yr old Oliver MccAll. Hopoate's biggest win was over 43yr old Big Bob Mirovic here in Aus for the Aus heavyweight title. Hopoate is a former Rugby League bad boy best known for his finger up the bum tactic to upset opponents. After many indescretions he turned to boxing as he was banned for life from Rugby League.
So just saw on the local news that he lost to MccAll by second round TKO. MccAll you could see from the footage had him figured from the onset and "Hoppa" was exposed big time. I'm glad this thug was handed a lesson by a 44 yr old man and hope he also loses his Aus title soon to a real fighter. Hopoate should not be allowed to box. His character is so flawed he is even a bad for boxing. O well off to get another beer, hee hee.
Re: Hopoate Ko'd By Oliver MccAll
I have met Ollie a couple times at the gym I go to...he's a nice fella from what I can tell. I'm just happy they never had me spar with him, as I was one of the few heavyweights in the gym.
So this Hopoate liked to "check the oil" (a term used by wrestlers) huh? Well I'm glad McCall won....I'm less pleased that he's still fighting but at least he won.
Re: Hopoate Ko'd By Oliver MccAll
Good on the Atomic Bull.Seems like he pulls one of these off every few years :shinner:.
Re: Hopoate Ko'd By Oliver MccAll
Your punch really is the last thing you lose aint it? Glad McCall pulled it out.
Re: Hopoate Ko'd By Oliver MccAll
He still takes a punch pretty good as well...I think he could give Sam Peter a run considering how Sam fought vs Chambers.
Re: Hopoate Ko'd By Oliver MccAll
Never knew McCall was still fighting:confused:
He sounds in good shape though from what you are all saying to good luck to him.

The connect still needs his money. McCall ain't got a choice
Re: Hopoate Ko'd By Oliver MccAll
I can´t even think about why Hopoate was given any chance against McCall!?! Some betting companies were giving this almost even money! But most were putting McCall as a slight favourite although Hopoate hadn´t almost any advantages against McCall in my opinion!
McCall will be given one more chance to challenge some world title holder during next 12 months...that´s my guess!

Re: Hopoate Ko'd By Oliver MccAll
The thing about McCall is that he is old, but never really got old in the ring. Im sure he is passed his prime but he really hasnt declined much in any one area. Holyfield, for instance, visibly lost a lot of speed and reflexes. McCall is pretty much as good now as he was 10 years ago imo and like Hopkins he can still perform at the same level he always has.

Yes exactly, checkin the oil - nice.....
I bet you are glad you didn't have to spar him, that would be daunting.

Yes I'm extremely very happy I didn't have to spar with McCall. I never actually saw him spar while he was preparing for his fights vs (I assume) Marion Wilson, Wallace McDaniel, and Darroll Wilson. But he definently was working his ass off in the gym and we definently have local heavyweights/cruiserweights that come in and would have given him some good work, so I suppose he just worked with them whenever he could.
Jonathan Hagler is probably our best local heavyweight at the moment he's 19-3 and has fought against some pretty good competition considering NC ain't Nevada, California, New Jersey, or New York when it comes to boxing talent. He's fought Shane Cameron (I'm sure he's big with you Aussies), Chazz Witherspoon, and he's done ok with them. He's 6'4 and a southpaw and I believe if memory serves me correct Clarence Tillman (Tillman78 for those that remembered him) used to spar with him as well. Also the main guy I sparred with Paul Jeanette a cruiserweight probably gave McCall some sparring.

That would be cool. While I was going to the gym regularly this guy came in who i'd not seen before and was quite big. He hit the bags like it was a red headed stepson and his footwork and technique great. As I was one of the bigger guys there at the time I just kept hoping there would be no sparring that night. Thankfully none. Asked around and he had apparently fought pro at H/W with 10 wins.
Shane Cameron is from New Zealand not Australia. I know him as I am a boxing fan but he's not know widely.
Re: Hopoate Ko'd By Oliver MccAll
Oh my bad re: Shane Cameron.
Former 154 pund champ Aaron 'Superman' Davis also frequents the gym I go to. It's pretty cool considering how far away from the boxing mecca's I am
Re: Hopoate Ko'd By Oliver MccAll
Good for Oliver with the victory over Hopoate. Mccall still has decent power and 1 of the best chins ever. I would not mind seeing the old man get 1 last shot at glory with a bigger name heavyweight.
