I know what to make of it. It's bollocks, Roach isn't going to train a shot fighter who has shown he can't listen to instructions
Thought Freddy said he should retire? Nothing like a pound note in boxing ;)
If true (unlikely) that rules out a Khan fight.
So Hatton will come back against a non-punching plum, beat the plum, be hailed as the NEW improved Hatton, step-up again and get sparked out. Fact.
I was reading through that thread feeling a bit confused TBH. Some strange stuff going on in there. That Hornfinger guy needs a woman or something. :p
I'm in two minds. Part of me wants Hatton to retire. But the other side doesn't want to accept that it finishes in a two round destruction like it did.
Just about waiting it out and seeing what comes from the horses mouth I guess.
For the moment, I consider that to be speculations, let's see, we should have the answer to it within a month or a month and a half.
Think people are forgetting that it wasn't Hatton in any way who got in the ring against Pac..
Not saying for a second he'd have won but he looked like he didn't even want to fight, no usual "Blue Moon" entrance and noise etc.
I even said to Floyd Mayweathers mum the other week about it and she agreed and admitted something was up big time behind the scenes in the days before the fight but wouldn't go any further and spill the beans.
I even pressed her on it but she just said "read between the lines" whatever she meant by that i don't know.
It'll come to light sooner or later and it's no secret that Hattons dad and Floyd Snr had words either.
I think he will come back as no one wants to end a Career in that way and if i was gonna come back i'd def head to Roach before anyone else.
I personally think he should turn it in and retire a rich man
Yeah because having another new trainer will help Hatton:rolleyes: As I've said; teach an old dog new tricks and see how many times he'll do them on command.
That boy is damaged goods after getting mauled by Pac;D Let him fight on; maybe he'll feel better about himself beating some lesser opponents, and possibly the pain of that shameful last outing will be dulled. I'd just as soon see him retire before he ends up gibbering on the front porch with Gerber baby food tricking down the corners of his mouth. But hell I'll watch him, I love his punch me in the face style.
He should get Buddy McGirt to train him; that way it would be even less of a surprise when he loses.
Go Ricky!!!!!!!:woot22:
If true, I guess that answers the question about if he's planning to retire.
There was talk of this not a few days after the fight.. and I was inclined to believe there was some truth in it as Roach didn't outright deny it and even said " It would depend how we work together " or something along those lines... so there may be some truth in it yet. I don't think for one second Ricky wants to retire just yet..
Smash I don't think that any rift in his training camp could have explained the mistakes he made... they were too big.
Unless Floyd Sr killed Ricky's mum or something I don't see what else could make him forget not to walk forwards in a straight line with a nonexistent guard and no head movement.
I agree with Adam. It was far from sr's fault that Ricky couldnt follow directions and wasnt up for the big fight. Ricky bottled it big time and wasnt really interested in going to war with Pac. it was like Ricky wanted to run into a big shot and end it.. Really dissapointed that he wont take accountability but will blame mayweather sr
I agree that we cannot really blame Floyd Senior. Nobody made Hatton fight that way. Maybe training didnt go so well but nobody expected what we got.
I'm more inclined to believe that the training rumours were more about sparring and that it probably didn't go so well.
But again, who knows?
I don't post on there at all. Never have really. I save all my posting for this place (not that you could tell! :-\). I go on there every now and then to try and find out some news about Hatton and came up with that.
Actual boxer forums can be a minefield. Best not to post on them.
roach, emmanuel steward, teddy atlas, and floyd sr, jr, whatever can all get together and train hatton for two years straight, and if he comes in the ring and disreguards all that and fights the way he did in his last outing it won't matter. If you don't do the basics like keep your hands up i'd say not only khan but ann wolfe would probably ko his ass. Hatton has a hatton problem. Not a trainer problem.
I'm sure I remember Roach saying Hatton was shot and shouldn't fight again. And it's true! But we all know he will anyway, I don't think Roach will be training him though.
I read an article a few days before the fight about how Roach's manager contacted Richard Schaefer about training Hatton after the fight. It was about how Hatton wasn't happy with Floyd Snr. and they talked to Schaefer about Roach.
It wasn't Hatton and Roach talking it was there people and that was for sure before the fight. I can't find the article though....
It doesn't take a guy like Roach to teach Ricky how to bite his mouthpiece real hard, tightened his neck, tuck his chin in, and keep them gloves above his shoulders... offense or defense.
I hope this rumor aint real. Cuz I'm beginning to think that Hatton is avoiding Khan.
Team Hatton Denies Roach Rumors
By John Martinez, IronBoxing.com: In a story carried by Eastsideboxing.com, but originally posted and broke on Ringtalk.com, Ringtalk writes that Manny Pacquaio’s trainer, Freddie Roach, is set to become the newest instructor for Manchester, England’s Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton. I spoke moments ago with Hatton’s manager, Paul Speak, on the matter and he said: “There is no truth in the rumor”..
Mr. Speak said that he was informed of the rumor this morning from a colleague named Craig Gibson. Gibson runs the official Ricky Hatton website and both thought the story should be corrected.
After talking with Paul Speak, I phoned Gareth Williams to confirm what Mr. Speak had told me.
Gareth Williams is the personal legal counsel to the former world champion, Ricky Hatton.
He empathically denied the tale of Roach training Hatton.
“This is just absolute nonsense. Whom are they attributing these resources to?”
Furthermore, he (Williams) echoed what Speak informed me of, that the return of “The Hitman” has not been cemented.
“He certainly has not approached Freddie Roach to train him because he hasn’t made any decisions as to whether or not he is even going to continue to fight.”
As a matter of fact, according to Speak, Hatton is on a family vacation and won’t return until early next week.
But fight fans should not anticipate an announcement regarding Hatton’s future so quickly after his return from the holiday.
“He is going to take a lot of time, maybe some weeks, possibly months, to decide what he will and wants to do with his future,” said Speak.
