Margarito expects September return

Antonio Margarito expects to have his ban lifted shortly by the California State Athletic Commission and be back in the ring by September.
Margarito was banned after it was found to have plaster-like substance in his hand-wraps prior to his loss to Shane Mosley in January.
The Mexican, supported by his promoter Bob Arum, has pleaded that because it was not him putting the illegal substance on his hands, he should not be punished, and expects to be allowed to resume his career shortly.
"I have not stopped training because this month I will get my license given back to me by the California State Athletic Commission," Margarito told ESTO. "My lawyers are working on that now.
"I will reappear in September. In the coming week my company will let me know who will be my rival.
"I would like a 10-round fight and then next fight for a world title.
"I do not have a preference, but I want revenge against Mosley. I could also fight [Miguel] Cotto or Manny Pacquiao because Mexico would love a Mexican to defeat the Filipino and that will be Antonio Margarito."
Even though I wasn't as sold on his guilt as others, as I truly believe he is thick enough to not realize it was not being put in, I was never a fan & always thought he was a prick. However, a lot of this just shows no class & I hope when he comes back somebody beats him up. It's also a disgrace if he gets off with 8/9 months of inactivity for what he did, especially when you consider that's roughly what Cotto ended up with after their fight & it looks like Shane might have to wait longer

Re: Margarito plans September return
Heck yeah! I am super pumped that Tony is coming back.
-
Re: Margarito plans September return
Isn't that prick still with Capetillo? I would love nothing more than a Mosley rematch ;D
-
Re: Margarito plans September return
Its irks me to see him having the audacity to celebrate after the Cotto fight was stopped. Just take the money and leave. Yeah yeah he's innocent till proven guilty, he only did it that one time!, Nixon wasn't a crook, blah blah.
-
Re: Margarito plans September return
I saw this earlier was gonna post it myself. I can't believe they are still saying 'plaster-like' and 'he did not put it in there'
I hope he gets another whuppin the cheating fooker.
-
Re: Margarito plans September return
Has it been a year already ??? Jeezus Im on here waaay to much, life just slips by:-X
I'll watch. Why the fook not.Should be interesting and all will be gunning to knock him out.His chin may have been permenatly opened up by Shane.

Re: Margarito plans September return
Lol. More reason for Floyd why he should avoid fighting the top dogs at 147.
-
Re: Margarito plans September return
I hope not. he doesnt deserve to step in the ring again imo.
-
Re: Margarito plans September return
lets see him get whooped again..
-
Re: Margarito plans September return
Done the crime and served his time, he should be free to earn a dime.
-
Re: Margarito plans September return
What if he totally came back clean and honest and was checked with a magnifying glass every single fight, followed rules, gave us good fights, etc. You guys still wouldn't give him a second chance?
-
Re: Margarito plans September return
He put fighter's lives and career's at risk even more by cheating....if they found him face down in a ditch I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
I would love nothing more than to see Toni if he does fight again, get the shit beat out of him! I want him to be battered for 12 rounds....I don't care about a KO or anything, I want his orbital bones broken, his retinas detatched, and his jaw broken...I want his career ended in his "Comeback fight"
Boxing is slimey enough without that fucking goon around

Do you think that 8 months off from fighting is a fair punishment, especially as that is all he might have missed through ring inactivity anyway
I've not been as hard on his guilt as others, but to come back talking the way he is shows a complete asshole in action
-
Re: Margarito plans September return
I still wanna see Tony fight Floyd. Lol.. 90/10 split for Floyd. C'mon Arum. Damn it, make the fight happen!
-
Re: Margarito plans September return
It should be fun seeing Margarito back in the ring. He will only make that Welterweight division stronger.
-
Re: Margarito plans September return
F*ck him! I hope he's dissed by all the elite guys! Get a new job Tony, its over!
-
Re: Margarito plans September return
Margarito was one of my fave current fighters and all time faves as well; but fook him now. Either he's stupid from taking too many punches and didn't think to make sure Capetillo was doing him right with the gloves, or he's a liar. Either way I will vehemently root against him. Pendejo caca head:tease-new:
I can't wait to see the reaction the crowd gives him; he will not be popular me thinks. He needs to ride in the arena in a bullet proof golf cart or face getting bombed with spit balls made from plaster from the crowd;D
-
Re: Margarito plans September return
He's going to come back and make a ton of money. He'll be given a tuneup he can't lose and then get a Cotto rematch. There's just too much potential money to be made there for that fight not to happen. It'll get massive publicity, a lot of it about how boxing is so sleazy that this guy can be allowed to fight again etc., but publicity is publicity and the rematch is a surefire big money PPV fight, thus it'll happen.
-
Re: Margarito plans September return
He could easily fight somewhere in Mexico in a comeback fight. The crowd wont be bad at all, may even cheer for him I bet. He will win the fight pretty impressively, people will cheer, he gets a title shot, most people turn a cheek to it and the reception wont be nearly as bad.
Just my thoughts

Re: Margarito plans September return
That's good to hear. We will wait you Margarito fight again on ring. :)

Re: Margarito plans September return
Caught with Plaster like substance in JANUARY OF 09. It's now June and the ban is already over?
BS, if the punishment is a year, make it a year.

Yea, like you and Spicoli have already suggested, somehow the math just isn't working out for me. Not sending much of a message to the boxing world about how serious cheating and defaming the sport is. I guess not too serious. :shakehead:

Re: Margarito plans September return
If they allow him back, they should make him the first boxer to wear "see-through" gloves!
Better yet walk him through a "plaster detector" or place him under "handwrap supervision" for the remainder of his career.
Got to come up with something... any of that sort, to eliminate the lingering cloud of doubt, left in the wake of his dishonest and unprofessional practice.
By the way, has he apologized to those concerned thoroughly? Or has he written...
"I'm sorry for being dishonest, to have seriously endangered the lives and limbs my fellow boxers for my corrupt boxing ways, and I a pledge to refrain from repeating these same offenses in my undertaking as a professional boxer, in the immediate future"
100 x as a form of "extreme punishment". LOL. Maybe just "Sorry" 1000x on the blackboard!
Sorry fella's I see it as a pathetic display of governance, should they allow him back. This could be a minority opinion, nevertheless, it has to be brought out. Boxing should be wary of this...
The mighty moolah! Power on display...

everyone is under "handwrap supervision."

Re: Margarito plans September return
Personally, I think the guys ruined. The mental edge is gone and almost any game fighter can use that bit of doubt hanging in Margaritos mind and snowball it to a win over 10-12 rounds. With the exception of Cotto, because lets face it... the uppercut just cant miss Cotto.... oh and Judah... Zab's hes got his own set of problems.
-
Re: Margarito plans September return
I think we'll find that Mosley ruined Toni worse than this handwrap situation.
I would rather Margarito be broke and never fight again than him get paid to fight again, but if he does fight again I want him destroyed!!! I want it to look like a couple Mafia hoods worked him over with baseball bats....and that's better than he deserves that lying cheating cocksucker!
-
Re: Margarito plans September return
Well look i not biggest fan of Margarito but look dudes but from what i read he was caught before he used it in the ring right. So that means the only actual proof that he had in using it was before a fight. Everthing else is speculation his fights varied on how well he did so i cant make it out. Also the found traces of shit and never really said anything about it. I mean if they used a right amount you be able to just say it was plaster. So pretty much all they got him for was attempt to use it right.
-
Re: Margarito plans September return
i say that Margarito should be able to fight again as long as he fulfills his actual suspension, it hasn't been a year and i find it very disrespectful on Margarito and Arum's part by trying to get out of it earlier than he's supposed to, he wouldn't be getting nearly as much crap (he deserves every bit of it) if he would have just taken his suspension quietly and waited till next year to gun for his license
-
Re: Margarito plans September return
Good point El but if he gets it lefted from the board then who cares really.
-
Re: Margarito plans September return
Does anyone think my letter to the CA Athletic Commission helped? :D

Anyone ever tell you that you are one sadistic son of a bitch? :foruml10gc5:

Re: Margarito plans September return
Does the guy not deserve it?? He risked the careers and lives of everyone he fought even more than what is the norm, that is absolutely unacceptable.
-
Re: Margarito plans September return
I can't believe some people still has sympathy for a CHEATER, especially for somebody who is big enough to fight as a middleweight:mad:

This is one sick post Hoping to see a fighter get hurt bad. I guess Mosely & Jones jr were as pure as the driven snow while juicing huh??
How in the hell is a trace element of sulpher on your wraps turn into loading your gloves. Margarito kicked Cotto's butt fair & square and will do it again
Just a point Why wasnt Mosely tested for HgH before the fight as a known steroid abuser he'd know thats not detectable with a pee test

I don't want to see him hurt unnecessarily. But it'd make me smile to find out he is flat broke 3 yrs from now and signed for Big Brother tv Mexicano as an extra.

Re: Margarito plans September return
Nobody should watch this twat fight. I won't watch and will be hoping he gets sparked. Surely if everyone felt that way, then he could never come back.

If you remember the tragic tale of Billy Collins Jr. and what happened to him when they pulled the padding out of his opponents gloves, then you would understand why this kind of shit needs to be dealt with severely. Good riddance to tony.

I totally agree, so why is he fighting again? What kind of example is this? I can't get my head around it.

I could be wrong, but I believe that he was banned by the California Athletic Commission and that the other American Commissions honored the ban ever though they did not have to. As the fight is taking place in Mexico, the ban does not apply.

Re: Margarito plans September return
I hope that Big Bob and the lawyers won't be able to pull a rabbit out their hat and get him back on track that fast, at least, in the United States. First of all, a boxer should always be taken responsible for anything his cutman /trainers are stuffing him with. Second, I will never believe such thing as Capi did plaster his hands without telling him, this is a total nonsense, no consequent cornerman would ever do that to his boxer if he really cares. To me, it goes beyond cheating; it goes with messing with peoples life and health and there is nothing more disgusting than a cranial trauma, if I was ahead of the commission, there would be no mercy at all and if ever they decide to give him a second change (for whatever reasons), i hope he,ll have at least another 2 years to medidate on it all.
One thing you can be sure though: I'll never pay for a PPV if ever I know he'll make a dime out of it.
