Paul Williams vs Kelly Pavlik
Does anyone besides me think Paul would frustrate Kelly for 7 or 8 rounds, throwing punches in bunches with a good bit of pepper on them, and ultimately either stop Kelly or win a landslide UD on the cards? Im having a hard time seeing Kelly get in often enough to bang.
Even if it doesnt come off, Im disappointed in the bulk of 3 different weight classes' 'elite' fighters. You boys got to come up and give Tall Paul a chance.

Re: Paul Williams vs Kelly Pavlik
definatly capable of doing it, I dont see why he couldnt, but Kelly is a big middleweight puncher and he might be able to wear Paul down with applied pressure. It depends how many punches paul can get off and how well he boxes, if hes focused for 12 rounds I think he can beat Pavlik definatly.

Re: Paul Williams vs Kelly Pavlik
I think so. I was also thinking that Paul Williams matched with Jermaine Taylor would be an interesting fight.

Re: Paul Williams vs Kelly Pavlik
Williams has the ability to outbox Pavlik. I think it's a matter of whether or not Williams can weather Pavlik's shots because they will be coming in bunches.

agreed. Pavlik does have power at 160 and i would really love to see this fight but i doubt it will happen.

Re: Paul Williams vs Kelly Pavlik
I think that Williams can keep Pavlick turning but part of me wonders if pavlick will be too strong for him.
-
Re: Paul Williams vs Kelly Pavlik
I think Paul Williams would just outbox him and win by a wide UD. Basically, it would be a Hopkins-Pavlik all over again.
-
Re: Paul Williams vs Kelly Pavlik
He's not nearly as slick as Hopkins though. He can be hit and he's never been hit by Pavlik's type of power. I think he has more problems with Pavlik stylistically than Winky, well at least an old Winky but Winky would have always had some problems with Paul IMO.

Bhop and Williams are two different fighters. Hopkins used defense and his slickness to avoid Pavlik's offense. Williams' defense is his activity. He throws so many punches that the opponent can't find their opening. Pavlik will be throwing punches back and Williams may not want to trade with Kelly.

Exactly!

Re: Paul Williams vs Kelly Pavlik
PWill would decision Pavlik imo. But the ghost always has punchers chance against anybody. So I'd defo wouldnt count him out.

Williams is not near as crafty as Hopkins but like Taylor he would probably outbox him at times but I think Pavlic has the firepower to to hurt him and bust him up for a late stoppage.

Re: Paul Williams vs Kelly Pavlik
IMO it's a pick em fight, but it doesn't need to happen now, the fight that needs to happen is Pavlik/Abraham
-
Re: Paul Williams vs Kelly Pavlik
I have a hard time seeing anyone beat Williams right now... Williams took shots from Margarito well at 147 and you would think he would be a bit more sturdy at heavier weights. I think he wins wide ud vs Pavlik. Something still telling me Pavlik is still not confident since the loss to Hopkins.
I think he could clean up 147 up to and including Dawson, but I could also be a bit biased as well.

Also throw Sturm in that mix once he can relocate his nuts!

Re: Paul Williams vs Kelly Pavlik
I have to give this one to The Punisher. for a few reasons
1) Unrelenting punches, Pavlik waits for the onslaught to stop before returning fire, and like Bhop, Williams will just keep throwing.
2) Williams stamina, I've never seen him really tire out, his stamina is simply not human throwing over eighty punches in the 12th round of a fight is nothing short of phenomenal, especially considering that volume was throughout the fight.
3) Williams chin, haven't seen Williams hurt at all. I know it's at the lower class of 147 but he took flush power shots from both Matthysse and Margarito and just kept going. At 160 where he doesn't have to drain himself at much I have no reason to believe that his chin will be any less worthy.
I will submit Pavlik is a hell of a puncher though and if anyone will be a real test for Williams chin it will be the Ghost.
I would love to see this fight, PPV worthy for me.

Re: Paul Williams vs Kelly Pavlik
Definately a great fight here. i don't know that Kelly will ever get to be a good lateral moving fighter, but I do think he can adapt. And adapt he will need to do to contend with people like Williams, and obv. B-hop.
I still believe Pavlik was not well for the B-hop fight, bronchitis being the issue, but also don't think it wouldn't have mattered much, other then have been slightly closer.
So yea, I have a lot of respect for both of these fighters, and would sure like to see this, to know where Kelly is in his development. And to again watch that freakish punch machine Paul Williams do his work. Def. a PPV event.

Re: Paul Williams vs Kelly Pavlik
Williams is just a complete freak. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see him outwork Pavlik over twelve and coming through it relatively unscathed too. I love watching Williams fight, he is great fun.

That under and around the guard uppercut he landed against Wright was ridiculous, noone else has the build to do that.

Re: Paul Williams vs Kelly Pavlik
I think Williams might even take out Pavlik late on, if he lands at will he might just break Pavlik down..
-
Re: Paul Williams vs Kelly Pavlik
I think that Williams takes this because of his output, it's just ridiculous & his reach will still be good at MW (hell it would be good at HW) & I think Pavlik would struggle to get inside, his gameplan always seems to me keep them at his distance than hit em with straights until they falter. Doing that on Williams with his reach advantage & movement would be a tall order & I wouldn't be surprised if Williams takes him out late, as B-Hop could have taken Pavlik out, but didn't really put the effort into it until the last 10 seconds, rather choosing to play it safe & just beat up on him for fun.

Re: Paul Williams vs Kelly Pavlik
This came up a while ago and was funny. Now,Im not laughing so much.Williams stands a pretty good shot. But should not think himself an equal puncher and stand still for too long.
-
Re: Paul Williams vs Kelly Pavlik
I must disagree with most. We haven't see anything that Williams can take a good shot from a solid middleweight like Kelly. His offence is his defense but remember Kelly can through upward of 100 punches a round himself. I think Williams would do fairly well early but once he feels the weight and the power of a true middleweight he will be toast. I would go with Kelly by KO in about eight or nine rounds.

with you on that one, i seriously don't get why Sturm never tried to go down to 154, he's not really a big middleweight and IMO can easily make the trip down, honestly i believe that his lack of real power is the main reason he avoids power punchers like Abraham and Pavlik, but i think that he would be stronger at 154

Re: Paul Williams vs Kelly Pavlik
If Williams is able to withstand Pavlik's shots he will win a clear decision.
I would personally pick Williams to win.

I KNOW! I've never seen that happen before. When they showed the replay of that shot, my brother and I couldn't stop laughing. It was such a weird concept for a punch that it caught us off guard. I don't think it has knockout power but it scores.

Re: Paul Williams vs Kelly Pavlik
This would be a great fight. I'm curious to see how Williams deals with a man who has similar height but superior punching power. Would be worthy of ppv but even better live. Kelly's over the b-hop fight so it's pointless to post remarks about him still being affected in any way. True it's just ones opinions and i respect that but sit down and talk with him or watch him at the gym and you'd know he's ready to defend his title with the past behind him. He is just as busy as Williams, and once Kelly hits you your game plan changes. I gotta go with my boy Kelly.

one thing is to look good in the gym and another to actually be over it and have your confidence back in an actual fight, and he didn't seem too over it in his last fight against Rubio
