Pacquiao Orders Arum To Make Cotto Bout, Nov. 14
link --> Pacquiao Orders Arum To Make Cotto Bout, Nov. 14
Pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao has ordered his promoter Bob Arum to make the fight with WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto. Arum already has a date set down on paper, November 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Pacquiao sat ringside and watched Cotto win a split decision over Joshua Clottey in New York's Madison Square Garden.
Arum told Michael Marley of The Examiner that Pacquiao was impressed with Cotto's massive amount of support from the thousands of Puerto Rican fans at MSG.
“Manny told me what to do. Manny told me, ‘Go ahead, make that fight.’ So it will go Nov. 14 at the MGM Grand here in Vegas,” Arum said. "He was impressed by Cotto’s fan support and told me it reminded him of how the British fans stand with Ricky Hatton."
Arum said the serious cut suffered by Cotto above his left eye will not prevent the fight from going forward on the proposed date.
“No because it’s not that bad. Miguel is delighted to get a fight against Manny, trust me. Miguel very much wants this fight. It will be a sensational fight the way they attack,” Arum said.
Yahoooo !!! ;D

The thing is that Cotto commented if Manny wants fight him have to be no more under the 145 pnds.........
I hopes Manny could accept that condition..............;D

Re: Pacquiao Orders Arum To Make Cotto Bout, Nov. 14
I can't see an issue on weight if both fighters want the fight. The only issue I can see as potential is if Cotto hold's out for a bigger purse split. Otherwise Arum will make it happen since he gets paid double for this one or does he?

Re: Pacquiao Orders Arum To Make Cotto Bout, Nov. 14
Pacquiao is going to bludgeon Cotto. To tell the truth, out of the big three (PBF, Mosley, Cotto) this is the fight I least wanted to see.
-
Re: Pacquiao Orders Arum To Make Cotto Bout, Nov. 14
The way Cotto looks now I don't want Cotto suffering the same fate Hatton and De La Hoya fell into. Fighting Pacquiao, who has improved overall over the last couple of years. While Cotto, like when Hatton and De La Hoya fought Pacquiao, there overall ability have decreased. I hope Cotto doesn't take this fight.

Yup totally agree
Pac saw what a lot of other people saw, a lot of flaws in Cotto's game. I see the fight probably happening at 147 even. He wouldn't be calling him out like this if Cotto had KO'ed Clottey.
I'm confident in a Pac victory, possible stoppage. I'll believe the fight is actually happening when it's signed though.

Re: Pacquiao Orders Arum To Make Cotto Bout, Nov. 14
I said I thought Manny would win before the Clottey fight but this is still an interesting fight, Cotto could at least revert back somewhat to the search and destroy mode which is where he's at his best.
Still my reasoning for picking Manny was that I thought Manny's foot speed, lateral movement and hand speed would cause Cotto problems. But its still a hell of a fight on paper IMO. Nobody would look good against Clottey. I would still pick Cotto in a Mosley rematch.

Re: Pacquiao Orders Arum To Make Cotto Bout, Nov. 14
I think people are overreacting. Cotto suffered a nasty cut that impaired his vision. Even Amir Khan was able to look good after assaulting Barrera's head with an axe. Cuts can make a difference in a fight and it did here too.
Cotto would probably bust Pac up even now. It's interesting hearing all this talk about Cotto being past his best because I really don't think he is. I would really like to see Manny walk through half a dozen Cotto body shots unscathed.
Bring it on, I say. I'm getting sick of the little midget and his big mouthed trainer.

Haha! I shall copiously vomit all over the place. Might even include a bit of projectile puking in for good measure. :D
I'm just cynical. People are saying Cotto is past it and here is Manny saying let's have a Cotto fight. Get out there and fight Mosley, you little poof! I'm not into this looking for weaknesses and then trying to make the match nonsense. I want the best to fight the best. Mosley is a cracking fight and it's a shame they won't fight him.
I hope Cotto has plenty left and beats him up. And let's not go into this catcweight of 141 and quarter pounds rubbish. You want a WW, well go up to WW and fight him. I'm sick of this pansified drivel.

I'd love to see Pac get beat more than anyone, but I just don't see it, Cotto hasn't been overwhelmed like what Manny will do. Cotto had some nice footwork last night and he sure will need it.
Again with the cut, I see Manny slicing Cotto's face up and winning with a late stoppage. If they are talking November, will that cut be totally healed?? He will be testing it thats for sure.
It's not just Clottey that has been able to tag Cotto frequently.

The little guy is going to learn real quick what a true welterweight is, not some weight drain fighter that's shot. I have visions of Pacman being KO by an vicious body shot like the Hopkins-DLH fight a few years back.
And by the way be a man and fight a fighter at his best, no catch weights.

Even before the Clottey-Cotto fight, I already pick PAC to defeat Cotto... The only one I pick over PAC is Mosley...;) ;)
IMO Clottey soften Cotto some more so I think it will be more easier for PAC to handle Cotto now... Cotto been in so many wars recently... The one with Clottey, Margacheato (ohh that's so brutal), Mosley and Judah while PAC has a streak of easy fights where PAC either KO'ed or dominated his opponents in one-sided fashion...
Cotto going straight to PAC in November after the Clottey war will only make PAC's life a lot easier....;D

I would not be surprised if PBF will issue a challenge on Cotto, knowing Cotto is now vulnerable.
Make no mistake though Cotto had poblems against granite chinned pressure punchers in Big Cheat'O and Clottey, PBF isnt a big puncher. Go ahead Floyd.

How would you call Ricky Hatton (a giant?), and Floyd Mayweather Sr. (Meek?)

Re: Pacquiao Orders Arum To Make Cotto Bout, Nov. 14
If PacMan fights cotto at 147 and "IF" he wins, it will not eliminate the naysayers from pining excuses, alibis and reasons.
Even if pacquiao will fight at heavyweight and wins, it's still the same, in fact it could even become worse. Those who are now green with envy..will probably become purple....with rage....

Team Cotto wants 145... Team PAC wants 143... I'm guessing they can settle the weight issue in the middle... I'm also guessing Team Cotto will happily accept a 60/40 purse split in favor of PAC...

Marvin Hagler to all the guys who challenged him.
I have always loved this quote. If Pacman wants Cotto's title and belts fight him at his best which is 147. A catchweight is a farce, especially if it's for any titles.

Re: Pacquiao Orders Arum To Make Cotto Bout, Nov. 14
I told you guys before Cotto ever fought Clottey that Pacquiao would beat him, but people always blame it on my being a biased fan, the fact is that Pacquiao is too fast, hits too hard, and Cotto isn't good enough defensively to deal with his attack. Pacquiao will keep a distance too great for Cotto to cover quick enough, and he will land that cross like he did against Oscar, and he will stay away from that left hook.

How the hell is Mayweather going to setup a fight with Cotto when he has a signed contract still pending with Marquez? Even if he managed to escape the fight with Marquez, by the time Mayweather has his injury story all worked out Cotto probably won't even be available. He's going to have to wait for the outcome of Cotto's next fight to face Cotto. The next possible fight for Mayweather would be Mosley at that point since he's just been waiting for a mega partner. It's getting to be a bit long for Mosley to be inactive waiting. When is he going to get hit with a mandatory defense?
I also see Marquez going after Mayweather ribs now because he comes back when? two months...? I can't see Mayweather doing exercises to toughen up the ribs.... so he's goto protect them. (getting abit ahead of myself here)

You biased fan, you! ;D
I think this will be a decent fight. It's hard to count out Pac considering recent form. Having said that, Hatton did fight like someone with serious mental impairment. I have seldom seen such a bizarre approach to a fight of that magnitude. And it was more than a little bit dissapointing.
Pac is quick and somewhat elusive. But I would venture that Cotto is more technically sound than Hatton and hits a fair bit harder. A few of those Cotto leads land on Pac and we might well see Pac in for a rough night. It works both ways though. Pacs speed would obviously cause some problems for Cotto too.
I would prefer Mosley to be given a chance, but this comes a close second.

I disagree. This is the fight I most wanted to see because out of the 3, this will actually be the most exciting fight to watch. I knew though, that after Cotto putting in a close performance Manny would pick this fight. If Cotto had stopped Clottey impressively, no way Manny would have taken that fight.

Of course, PAC was watching if Clottey did enough "softening" on Cotto... PAC was convinced and instructed Arum to make the fight with Cotto... (joke) :lolhaha:

I didn't say he was looking for Clottey to soften him up. I'm saying he was looking for signs that Cotto's in ring performance is slipping. Thats not to say that it is though.

Agreed. People are underestimating Cotto on the back of a tough fight marred by a butt induced gash. People are saying he is done when in fact he should be commended for adapting and finding a way through. He could have quit earlier and taken a points decision. But instead roughed it out.

No catch weights. Many fans really don't like that catch weight thing. If Pacman can't fight someone at their best, then just don't fight. I sure wonder if Roberto Duran ever had a catch weight clause in his contract against Hearns, Leonard, Hagler? And considering he was about the same height and build as Pacman.

I have no problem with catchweights as long as no one was FORCED to accept a catchweight...;D Catchweight do exist in boxing and I believed if a boxer agree to a catchweight then that boxer believed that he can win the fight at that catchweight...;D No problem at all...;D

Re: Pacquiao Orders Arum To Make Cotto Bout, Nov. 14
duran started at 118 according to boxrec :) pac on the other hand started at 106. thats a 12lb difference duran to me looks like big boned and bulkier than pac.
pac is actually fighting over his limit, its just that there are no opponents with quality for him to fight at lower weights. and the big money is on the higher weights thats why pacs team is pushing every bit just to make it a more even match.
-
Re: Pacquiao Orders Arum To Make Cotto Bout, Nov. 14
What happened to the Mosley fight? Mosley called Roach's bluff in every aspect and they realized that would be a bad matchup for Pac. Cotto right now is all right for Pac. Cotto is possibly about 2 fights from being shot. He has taken tremendous punishment in his career and much as of recent. His skin has a lot of scar tissue and will be susceptible to cuts every fight now. Roach and Pac saw what everyone else did. Cotto is ripe for the picking and even riper if they can get him to drain himself below 147. Cotto is war-ridden and getting softened up more and more. He needs to take a break until next year. But he is too much of a warrior and we will see him soon. Despite how Arum tried to cover it up that cut is very bad and will only be thin skin in November.

And Duran fought even higher than his body's limit going toe to toe with the great Marvin Hagler and even won a belt at that weight against Barkley. Pretty impressive for a guy that started at 118 huh? But he didn't do it at a catch weight. The only other superstar fighter that did that was Leonard against Lalonde for his light heavy weight title. Hence many real boxing fans think that Leonard was unworthy of the nickname Sugar Ray.
I say if this fight happens Pacman kos Cotto after Cotto weight drains himself at 141 pounds for the welterweight title fight. Cotto accepts the fight after he is offered an offer he can't refuse like something in the neighborhood of $8 million for the fight guaranteed with a percentage of the ppv sales.
This fight at any catchweight is a farce just like the Leonard-Lalonde fight.

I really think Mosley would destroy Pac. Mosley is a big Welter Weight, who has been in with people as big as Winky, I think he would beat Pac down.

Re: Pacquiao Orders Arum To Make Cotto Bout, Nov. 14
i prefer mosley pac or pbf pac too... maybe im just asking too much from pac fighting above his limit. as ive said duran is naturally bigger than pac and duran doesnt rely too much on speed he is slugger unlike pac who relies so much on his speed and workrate. duran is btw may fave fighter b4 pac.
if pac chickened out atleast he is set to fight a bigger guy unlike the other fighter who is set to fight a much smaller fighter and is going to fight a much much smaller calderon! ehehehehehe whats lower than a chicken?
-
Re: Pacquiao Orders Arum To Make Cotto Bout, Nov. 14
pac will beat Cotto. but if it aint at 147 i give Pac no credit for the win. i think pac can beat him at 147 too but i rather see him do it.
