It was nothing. Neither. Ref made the right call. Ref did an outstand job the whole fight

Mercante is awesome, toss up between him and Smoger as my favorite ref. That being said Clottey was very theatrical that night. Thought I was watching a soccer game with Clottey trying to draw the fouls. Proper place though, right close to broadway. Like others have said, if he was busier trying to fight rather than get the refs sympathy he may have won the fight.

Yep it's going off-topic... Now, back to the topic, is it intentional? is it a foul? was Clottey just acting?

Re: Cotto grappling Clottey, is it intentional? is it a foul?
there have been much worse than that without getting a point deduction. I don't even think a point deduction was right.
I remember Naz tackling some guy (cannot for the life of me remember who it was) and slamming him much worse than that and unless I'm mistaken he didn't get a point, much less a deduction.

Yeah Soto, that was much worse.

Re: Cotto grappling Clottey, is it intentional? is it a foul?
Ricky Hatton was deducted by Ref Cortez for hitting the back of Floyd's head (actually Ricky's punch didn't even hit PBF, it hit the rope ;D )...
Guess, different refs, different judgements...

Well, stay 'on topic' then. The Hatton pac fight has nothing to do with this fight/thread at all. There were no similar occurrancies at all.

Re: Cotto grappling Clottey, is it intentional? is it a foul?
Clottey got up on Cotto's back, Cotto was pushing him off, and while he was pushing him off, Clottey's feet slipped on the advertising paint. Plain and simple.
I like how you conveniently use the clip that doesn't show that.
Here's a clip that does show his feet slipping.

That's why it's being presented here for discussions.... No one accused Cotto of doing it intentionally, or forcing that it's a foul or saying Clottey was really hurt... It's still up for discussions...
BTW, good clip there...

I don't know Diane, I unintentionally body slam people all the time. Last Christmas I got up to get a glass of water and ended up body slamming my Granny right into the Christmas tree. We all had a good chuckle about it.

There's a few people here I would love to unintentionally body slam. ;) ;D

Re: Cotto grappling Clottey, is it intentional? is it a foul?
Thats a great clip...Dianes.The other one doesn't seem to run all that fast:cwm13:
That was like some Gymkata move haha.Cotto did not forcibly slam him so much as he did not 'except' the clinch and it was all generated off of those gotdamn Logos that have seriously messed guys up in the past.
He obviously was not hurt.He put on a scene right out of 'Friday' and after some moments he continued. The leg was a none factor.

I mean if it was Ref Joe Cortez, Cotto could have been deducted a point by comparing on how Cortez easily deducted a point on Hatton even if Hatton didn't really hit PBF at the back of his head...;)

I know it's not me, it's just the glamour and prestige of the Mod position that attracts the ladies. They've been flocking in droves ever since my name turned blue. Unfortunately, it seems to have the same affect on the fellas :-\.

Re: Cotto grappling Clottey, is it intentional? is it a foul?
Shades of WWE or ECW to me...he should have been deducted a point IMO or at least get a stern warning. But the referree did not (or did he).?
-
Re: Cotto grappling Clottey, is it intentional? is it a foul?
Funny thing is that it wasn't a grapple or bodyslam. Clottey lunged at Cotto to grab on and Cotto dipped and came up while trying to push Clottey back. In the process, Clottey legs went in an undesirable direction and he fell flat.
That is not Cotto's fault. Clottey lunging grab try was responsible for the whole thing so he has nobody to blame but himself. At no point did Cotto wrestle him down or ever grab him for that matter.
-
Re: Cotto grappling Clottey, is it intentional? is it a foul?
It was more like a typical boxing push to create distance. Its no biggie to me. It just happens that Clottey was in off balance position and made the push looked really violent.
-
Re: Cotto grappling Clottey, is it intentional? is it a foul?
It was no body slam by Cotto. It wasn't even close, or at least the intent for such cannot be visually supported. It was more like a failed attempt to clinch by Clottey, which was thwarted by Miguel's arm and body movements which then caused Clottey to lose balance, lose the support of his legs under him and fall. This then gave the slight impression of a slam.
The rest is theatrics that was Clottey's way to ease up on an embarassing situation on hand. Anybody who've slipped, with the potential to be laughed at, will do the same to avoid being the "clown" in this typical scenario. A purely instinctive move, but also can be stated that it too was visibly a matter of overdoing it on the part of Clottey.

if the ref was Joe Cortez he would have Dq'd Clottey on an accidental headbutt , the guy needs to find a new job, he used to be a good ref, now he just makes an ass out of himself
