Hatton to fight in manchester against Forbes
Closes sources say Hatton is gonna fight at manchester against Steve Forbes at 147lbs
Ricky Hatton To Face Steve Forbes in Manchester? - Boxing News
He might get caught out in this fight by Forbes speed, its awhile since we have seen a good Hatton performance if you take away the Paulie fight. He is past his best but i still feel he can win a close fight on points with forbes.
I dont think its a good idear to fight at 147lb if he wins then he will probably move back down to 140 its not a good thing to be going up and down weights.

Wow that is intresting that its at 147, maybe Hatton was struggling with his weight. I think Hatton sparred many rounds with Forbes before the fight with Castillo, hes not the biggest of punchers. Im not sure what to think about this, I honestly think Forbes could win this.

Re: Hatton to fight in manchester against Forbes
Forbes could win but he's not much of a puncher. Would this be a going away fight or is he sticking around?

Why at 147?

What was you expecting after a 2nd round loss?

Re: Hatton to fight in manchester against Forbes
On another note what has happened to the Hatton site??
Just tried getting on for some more info and redirected to another site? Anyone else get this?
-
Re: Hatton to fight in manchester against Forbes
Forbes has possibly the best chin in boxing and I can't see Hatton hurting him in any serious way, however, he doesn't have the power, so it would be a close Hatton win on points with the judges probably being more favourable to Hatton than they should

Re: Hatton to fight in manchester against Forbes
Good fight for Ricky to close his career. Forbes is a good fighter but not a big puncher. Ricky should beat him with his workrate in a competitive, fan friendly fight. Forbes could beat him though if he fights with fire, but although more skilled than Ricky imo, he doesnt usually fight with that something extra to put him over the edge, though he has looked good in recent showings.

An opponent.

Re: Hatton to fight in manchester against Forbes
knew he would step down in class some way - but don't know much about Forbes, saw him against Oscar and thats it. Looked game and durable but ordinary.
Probably perfect opponent if its a low key confidence booster just thought Ricky would go for a one big last oay day if he was fighting again against a big name (but not a big name at the top of their game ;))

Re: Hatton to fight in manchester against Forbes
Why is it at 147lb he seemed to be making the weight ok at 140.

I was thinking that, it would of been a good fight with Spadafora.Maybe taking on Forbes at 147lb maybe a sign that its Hattons last fight.

He struggled making it for the Pacquiao fight, he looked gaunt at the weigh in.

I think iron chinned Forbes is all wrong for Hatton. I agree with Spadafora or even a Alphonso Gomez would be good. Why not call Gatti out of retirement and set up a fight with him? But Hatton at 147 seems alot better for him because he looks really drained at 140.

He did look drained but was that because Mayweather wasnt training him right?
He can get away with fighting fighters like Forbes at 147 but not the big boys at 147.

No, it's because his out of training lifestyle caught up to him. You live like he does and making the same weight for nearly 15 years just becomes too much. You can't consistently be cutting 40-60lbs of weight every few months and not expect it to catch up to you.

Re: Hatton to fight in manchester against Forbes
Plus he was never good enough to beat Pac anyway ;)

Re: Hatton to fight in manchester against Forbes
See this is where Diego Corrales' death really pisses me off....I ALWAYS thought a Hatton-Corrales fight would have been great also Acelino Frietas or Jorge Barrios. I think Ricardo Torres would have been a good choice too, he's powerful, but he's very vulnerable.
Here are my top 10 for Ricky to fight:
1. Junior Witter - the fight should have been made years ago!
2. Amir Kahn - a true "pass the torch" fight, would show that Ricky is a very good sport too
3. & 4. Michael Katsidis/Mike Arnaoutis - both very beatable for any version of Ricky Hatton, also the outside chance that the fight turns out to be a classic.
5. Breidis Prescott - avenge the defeat of fellow countryman Amir Kahn
6. & 7. Ricardo Torres/Kendall Holt - more dangerous than most of the other fighters but also 2 vulnerable guys.
8. Vivian Harris - dangerous but a guy Ricky should be able to KO
9. Nate Campbell - Tough old guy nearing the end of his career would be a very solid fight.
10. Some local 135-140 fighter just to give them a look at the big time earn money and give the fans a good show
-
Re: Hatton to fight in manchester against Forbes
Not a gimme by any means and they may want to look for a slower sort of guy.Forbes has enough hand speed, foot work and endurance to mark up Hatton significantly and might just have him playing catch up as the rounds go by.Bad style for him.

Yep, forget the loss of human life, the fact he couldn't make a fight with Hatton that's the real kick in the balls
The only guys that I think Hatton now beats out of those guys are Arnaoutis, Harris and whatever 'local' fighter they get (as long as it ain't Khan, Witter or Olesegun). Maybe Torres if he uses his head right like Holt did.

Agreed on those predictions. I wonder who will train Ricky for the next fight?

Re: Hatton to fight in manchester against Forbes
It's a good farewell fight for Hatton. Or so I presume.
Forbes is a good, slick fighter with an iron chin, but he's also the epitome of a fighter who has a sparring partner mentality. I expect this fight will play out in much the same way as the ODH - Forbes fight did. Forbes will have his moments, and the potential for an upset will be there, but he'll do just enough to look decent in losing, which will probably garner him more of these types of fights in the future ($$$).
Anyone who expects him to take on a serious challenge for this type of a fight is insane. Torres or Katsidis? Are you fucking kidding me? The last thing Hatton wants after that brutal knockout is a slug-fest with a power puncher. Witter would be coming for blood as well and Hatton knows that. Forbes is the perfect opponent.

Re: Hatton to fight in manchester against Forbes
Forbes wins a split decision.
Ricky should have retired.
He has a built-in "I only lost two fights, and they were to the greatest p4p fighters of the day."
He loses this one, and plop goes the tatters of his remaining legacy.

I disagree. First, I really don't think Hatton will lose this fight. Second, at the end of their careers many fighters have lost to opponents they would have steamrolled in their prime, it takes nothing away from the fighter Hatton was if he loses to Forbes, it only demonstrates how far he has fallen.

Re: Hatton to fight in manchester against Forbes
If this is true it could be a tough test for Hatton. He has suffered 2 of the heavier KO's of recent times and Steve Forbes will stand there and fight all night. Hatton has the same mentality but I think his beard may have gone, would be a shame to see Hatton get hurt if this is the case.

I think some will underestimate the size here. For a change a fighter will be coming up to Forbes recent range. He was undersized in with Ocsar and clearly brought in as a opponet for GBP & the rising Berto but still managed to exploit some flaws in Andre and do a number on Oscars face.He has never dogged it in anyfight and he'll have all the benefits with hand speed and mobility side to side. And the point about Hattons mind set after Pacquiao loss is well taken.A guy can go either way and quickly after that sort of KO.

i agree.i hate to say it but i can see hatton getting beat to be honest.

Re: Hatton to fight in manchester against Forbes
It is an easy fight for Hatton and he will beat him. Forbes is not a big enough puncher to harm Hatton which should be his last fight.
-
Re: Hatton to fight in manchester against Forbes
The choice of opponent really dissapoints me, seriously. What has it come to. Thought it was poor when DLH signed to fight forbes. Rubbish.

He might not be a big puncher but if he lands alot he will mark Hattons face up.
Forbes will be a tough test,it will show us what Ricky has left and it will test him mentaly in this fight .If he isnt right going into the ring he will lose this fight.

What did you expect ? He is coming back from a horrible ko,no way was he going to go in with a big puncher.

Forbes is more dangerous than I thought Hatton would fight...Ricky could very well lose this fight

I totally don't expect a big puncher, just something will a tad more excitement. Forbes, Steve Forbes, please. I'm not a genius matchmaker by any means but i certainly wouldn't buy into that one. Can't help but think that DLH has a play in this one.

Re: Hatton to fight in manchester against Forbes
Did people b1tch this much when that Lazcano fight was announced? Because Forbes is a step above him IMO.
-
Re: Hatton to fight in manchester against Forbes
Forbes is much better than some are giving him credit for, he should have probably 3 less L's on his record, as he did enough to beat Brewer, Hopkins & Gonzalez, & you could make arguments for other fights, he certainly gets scored unfavourably against more than any other fighter I can think of apart from possibly Emmanuel Augustus. You also have to remember he's fought well-above his natural weight, he's probably grown into a 140lber now, yet he still gave ODLH & Berto trouble when they came into the ring weighing probably 10-15lbs more than him
