Khan eyeing P4P title WTF
KHAN EYEING P4P STATUS
Date: 14 Jul : Author: Iain Axon
Amir Khan says that victory on Saturday night will pave the way to a series of lucrative fights with the very best boxers in the world.
And the 22-year-old believes that not only can he fight the best, but he can become the best with the help of trainer Freddie Roach.
Khan challenges Andreas Kotelnik for the WBA light-welterweight title at the MEN Arena, Manchester, on Saturday night.
Sky Box Office televise live.
And while Khan insists that he is fully focused on the clash with the Ukrainian, he can't help but look forward to potential big money fights which could be made come victory.
One possible opponent on the agenda is Ricky Hatton, who is looking for one last hurrah to end his career following a painful defeat against Manny Pacquiao earlier this year.
"People keep asking me about the Ricky Hatton fight and other big fights" Khan told the BBC.
"The fight with Ricky - if it happens, it happens. We are both not pushing it, we're both going to see what the promoters say. We'll leave it with promoters and if the fight is made, it's made.
"We'll see what happens in the future but I've got bigger things to do at the moment, a world title fight.
"To win a world title in this day and age with the likes of Manny Pacquiao, (Juan Manuel) Marquez, (Floyd) Mayweather (Jr) in the same weight category - its going to catapult me and put me right at the top."
And Khan believes that if he continues to make improvements under Roach, he could soon be challenging Pacquiao and Mayweather for the mantle of best P4P fighter in the sport.
"Hopefully in a year's time [or] two years' time Freddie will make me a machine, make me a fighter like Manny Pacquiao or better," he told The Guardian.
"I'm one of those fighters who want to achieve the best, who never ducks some fights, who always take risks, and that's what I do.
"And this fight now I'm taking a risk by going up a weight, fighting someone at a world level for a world title, but that's me."
i really want Kotelnik to win this one ;D

Re: Khan eyeing P4P title WTF
Although it looks like he up to his old tricks again running down cyclists and predestrians
Khan, 22, was behind the wheel of his Range Rover when the accident happened in his home town of Bolton on Sunday night.
The cyclist suffered a head injury and was taken to hospital. His injuries are not thought to be serious.
A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: "At 9.40pm on Sunday 12 July 2009, police were called to Moor Lane, Bolton, following reports of a road traffic collision.
"Officers attended and discovered a Range Rover had collided with a cyclist.
"The cyclist suffered a head injury in the collision and was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment.
"His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
"No one else was injured in the collision.
"Inquiries are ongoing."
Khan, who first shot to fame as a teenager by winning a silver medal at the Athens Olympics in 2004, has twice been in trouble with police over his driving.
In October 2007 he was convicted of careless driving after he went through a red light and injured a pedestrian.
He was driving his £87,000 BMW convertible in Bradshawgate, Bolton, when he struck Geoffrey Hatton on a pelican crossing. Mr Hatton, 55, suffered a broken leg in the incident.
Khan was cleared of dangerous driving, but found guilty of careless driving. He was given a six-month driving ban and fined £1,000.
Three months later he was back in court to face magistrates for an earlier offence of speeding.
A police officer said his own speedometer was "off the clock" at 155mph as he pursued the boxer on the M62 motorway near Rochdale.
He was fined £1,000 and banned for 42 days for speeding in his BMW.
On Saturday Khan will fight Andreas Kotelnik for the WBA world welterweight title in Manchester, his first attempt to win a world title.

Re: Khan eyeing P4P title WTF
His punishments have been pretty pathetic havent they. Ive never hit anyone yet I got fined more and got a longer ban and had to do CS. He is given a laughable fine which to him doesnt even make a dent in his lose change.
Now he wants to be p4p king. Its a bit soon to be talking about that when he has never beaten a decent fighter ( headbutting a washed up Barrera doesnt count ) A couple of fights agao he was laid out in less than a minute vs a nobody but that doesnt seem to have humbled him at all

Re: Khan eyeing P4P title WTF
At the same time if you aren't in boxing to be the best or to be somewhere on the p4p lists eventually then why the hell are you in boxing? In my opinion there's no reason to bash someone who wants to be the best. Would you rather he say something like "I'm gonna do the bare minimum just to make a bunch of money and quit right before I accomplish anything special just to screw with the fans"

Re: Khan eyeing P4P title WTF
Khan is an idiot, plain and simple. He continues to run his mouth and talk complete and utter rubbish. Nothing would give me greater satisfaction than to see him thoroughly humiliated this weekend.
He hasn't even won a belt and he's raving on about being potential PFP material. He is a mentalist. No way this ridiculous human being lives up to his half arsed claims.
Come on Kotelnik, spark this insidious lemming of a man!

Re: Khan eyeing P4P title WTF
Khan is victim...of hype over achievement. You can't blame the guy for saying the things he says. He has to sell the fights and fill the arenas - although I suspect that arenas are starting to fill with as many people looking to see him get beat as there are those who are there to see him win.
Shame. When all said and done, he's a British propect with a genuine world title shot.

Still a cocky, full of himself bastard that is totally ignorant to the fact that everything he has acheived as a pro has been given to him on a plate.
He is more up his arse than Floyd Mayweather these days. The Prescott loss I think has been erased from his brain in a lab in Franks shed or something.

I sure do!
That Barrera fight was disgusting and Khan has been under my skin ever since. I just can't find it in me to like the guy, whenever he opens his mouth I just want to shove a brick in it. :-\

Honestly, Kahn's words sometimes truly are the ramblings of a mad man. I think he has some serious speed and combination punching to rival the best, but, and this is the very definition of inevitable, he is going to get knocked flat out again, and it will be before he fights a world class operater. Never fear miles.... It will happen....

Re: Khan eyeing P4P title WTF
God forbid, but Khan will be in suicide watch after he loses to Koltenik.

WHOA! Let's not get carried away here LOL! Mayweather is in a class alone on self-adoration. The difference in my eyes is that Mayweather has proven himself to say some of the things he says.
But anyways! Khan sure talks a lot considering he hasn't accomplished anything in his career yet. I get that he should have goals for being a P4P fighter, but he should be talking about it once he starts taking steps towards that direction...

Re: Khan eyeing P4P title WTF
To be honest, even if he had worded what he said about being p4p the best it would still get nit pick to death by some people.
As someone here in another thread stated (forgot who it was), stated that he roots for Khan to win because of so much dislike for him from people just like how he roots for Pacman to lose because of his obnoxious fans.
I hope the kid beats Kotelnik.

Re: Khan eyeing P4P title WTF
It seems like most people on here will twist anything that comes out of Khan's mouth to make him look like a bad guy and to be honest I can only put it down to the colour of his skin/religion. Some of the comments about Khan are truly disgusting like the one from MILES in an earlier thread of how he wishes Khan gets BRAIN DAMAGED in a fight!! Man after seeing what happened to Gerald Mcclellan that is disturbing and is way beyond your general disliking of a boxer, more like some sort of personal, racist vendetta. To make things worse saying that "after the Barrera fight" you started to dislike Khan is clearly a lie as you have been posting hate filled posts ever since Khan entered the world stage.
Can someone explain what is wrong with the statement below? The kids aspiring to be the best at his sport and aims to be like his role models Pacman just like everybody else does in his/her profession. What's the point of doing what you do if you don't want to try your best and be the best you possibly can.
Go for the win Khan, you have my support!

I agree completely mate. Sometimes people lose all sense of perspective when they dislike somebody.
Khan has said nothing that any other ambitious boxer hasn't said. Of course he believes he can become a p4p great, that's surely an admirable quality, he aspires to be the best, how can anyone pick on that?
There is a lot of hate on these boards in general, Khan will never be respected by those who hate on him and only wish to see him fail, Manny also will never be respected by those who are just itching to see him fail so they can tell us they told us all along.
It's very sad really. It's even funnier to me that I am labelled a fanboy of both Amir and Manny because I respect them and wish them to do well.
Yet I'm not a huge fan of either fighter I'm just not blinkered by hate and prejudice.
Khan is a good kid, he conducts himself well (at least when he's not driving) and he's eager to be the absolute best that he can be.
It's very easy for us complete non achievers to scoff at his weak chin and say he's useless but the facts are that he's a young kid who wants to achieve his dreams and is willing to take big risks to achieve them.
Of course the haters will tell you that Barrera was no risk at all and that Kotelnik is a complete bum and cherry picked if Khan beats him but at the end of the day he could beat J M Marquez in a years time and it would only be because he suddenly got old overnight.

Re: Khan eyeing P4P title WTF
In the last few months ive read numerous post about about how evil Khan is and how they want him to fail, banging on about his speeding on the road. What in the bluemoon has his speeding got to do with his boxing. I think the 2nd post down in this thread is all about Khan's speeding. Forgods sake Gatti's (no disrespect) has been beating on his wife for years not to mention dozens of other boxers lives outside the ring. The lads got a heavy foot just like millions of other drivers around the UK and to be honest if i had a £90,000 sports card id be hammering it to. He was just was unlucky and unfortunate to hit a pedestrian who luckily wasnt seriously hurt. My uncle ran over a dog last year, he was doing 40, in a 30 zone and couldnt break in time, i dont see people in his workplace (policeman) wishing he fails in everything he does and gets brain damaged in the line of duty!!

Well dogs are not that clued up on the green cross code, they often walk into traffic. A person getting hit because they could not move out of the way fast enough is a little different.

I don't recall any Eubank hate threads even though he's actually killed a man in a road accident.
Shit happens, and kids in fast cars speed.
Shouldn't do it but let's be honest we ALL have. There's probably not a single one of us who in our youth didn't speed and drive recklessly and could have killed or maimed someone but for the grace of God.
I wrote off seven cars in my youth.

lol I only wish I was that tough :D
The ironic thing is that the only time I hit another car it was their fault, driving into the back of me.
The other six were me on an open road losing control and ploughing into trees or in one instance the fence of a school playground in the afternoon.
Half hour later the kids would have been out and I could have got into double figures and become a household name but thankfully they were all in class so nobody got hit.

Race has absolutely nothing to do with this, so for you to try and twist that card is going too far.
Look back through my post history and you will see my comments regarding Khan began prior to the Barrera fight and became more vitriolic after the fight. Not once have I ever brought up the issue of race. I have brought up a number of other issues such as the unfairness of the Barrera fight, Khan getting things handed to him without ever deserving them, his constant running of the mouth and so on.
A person can dislike someone and the motivation does not have to be race. It's all too easy for someone to pull that card, point fingers and say "you are a racist!". It's bollocks.
And furthermore, I said I would like Khan to be humiliated, beaten up, knocked out. That does not imply that I want him to become a cabbage nor someone drooling in a wheelchair. Just a good, old fashioned highlight reel knockout will suffice.

It's fine to hate white British or non religious British fighters, otherwise your a racist did you not know? lol
I tend to look at people who bring race into things as the 'racist type' to be honest. It's obviously on their mind a lot ready to use at any moment.

You see but the thing is not everyone is in the game to become champion. They don't say I will do the bare minimum. But they do know there is a paycheck at the end of the night sort of like any job.

I don't understand the point of this post and how it relates to Amir?
Are you saying you'd rather Khan was one of those types, just turning up for a paycheck than to try and really make his name in the sport?

Can someone explain what is wrong with the statement below? The kids aspiring to be the best at his sport and aims to be like his role models Pacman just like everybody else does in his/her profession. What's the point of doing what you do if you don't want to try your best and be the best you possibly can.
Go for the win Khan, you have my support!
Totally agree, it is far too easy for people to pull out the race card and unfair to the person you are calling racist and slanderous. When it has nothing to do with it
To be knocked out the way he did and go on to beat a one eyed Barrera and think he is ready for global domination and to be considered with those great champions. He needs to stfu or at least demanding a rematch with Prescott which won't be happening.

It's fine to hate white British or non religious British fighters, otherwise your a racist did you not know? lol
I tend to look at people who bring race into things as the 'racist type' to be honest. It's obviously on their mind a lot ready to use at any moment.
Agreed. It gets old to be honest. A guy with about 10 posts on here called me racist in a thread he started just because I told him to buy a new keyboard so I could uderstand what he was typing. He didn't know what I looked like and I have no idea what he looked like but I was a racist;D

God please not the race card again, i should neg rep you for that really. Since when has boxing been about race or religion ? isn't it about individual tastes ? trying to hint at racism to a well respected member on this site like Miles, is just plain wrong. Or to any other person just because they dislike Amir Khan is just ridiculous.

Re: Khan eyeing P4P title WTF
HAHAHA - Khan has no chance at gaining the P4P title.....He will not even be an undisputed champ at any weight.....The guy's whiskers have let him down and he hasnt even fought any world class opposition.....
Dont even try and bring up Barrera - Barrera was 35, had fought 71 fights (many wars) and was fighting 5 pounds above his heaviest weight when he was in his prime.....
I am picking Kotelnik to beat Khan....Khan is another JCC jr...

Boxing has always been about race, religion, and nationality. It is intertwined with the sport. I'm not going to get into the Khan debate on race because I don't think the posters here are racist against Khan and they have legitimate reasons for not liking him.
But my point being is that it has always been a part of boxing and 1 of the negative aspects of the sport imo.
