HBO to air Gatti vs Ward Trilogy this weekend
Even though I have the fights on dvd, I'll still be watching.
Good for HBO to show these again.
HBO to pay tribute to Arturo Gatti - ESPN

That would be great; might even bring some more fans in:confused: Sadly enough people will have heard about this murder{casual or non-fight fans}and might tune in to see what he was like in the ring instead of watcing Weeds and Hung:rolleyes: Of course those types might just try to link domestic violence and boxing together so maybe it wouldn't be good:p Either way I know I wish they would show all of his best fights.

Re: HBO to air Gatti vs Ward Trilogy this weekend

Re: HBO to air Gatti vs Ward Trilogy this weekend
Like Rafael, I also immediately wondered what HBO would do. I think it would be more cool if they could get some guys in there to comment and make a documentary like style film about the trilogy like Showtime did with the Rafa-Izzy trilogy documentary. But maybe down the road there will be something like that, I really liked that.

They did a mini documentary about their first fight right before the second one. They interviewed the two fighters and some others about the experience. They even showed fight footage in black and white because they said it was a "throwback fight." I think I have it on VHS somewhere in my house...

Re: HBO to air Gatti vs Ward Trilogy this weekend
Does anybody else got this on right now? It's only the 7th round of the first fight, and I'm sitting here tearing up the whole time.
I don't know how I'm going to make it through this fight, and the other two. I'll probably be a wreck when it's all done.
Watching this, makes me so pissed off that Gatti's career ending fight, came as a loss to frickin Alfonso Gomez.

Re: HBO to air Gatti vs Ward Trilogy this weekend
sat down and watched the 1st fight again and actually welled up a bit at the end.
The story of gatti visiting ward in hospital and congratulating him is stuff of legends.
hope to god HBO managed to get an interview with irish micky

Re: HBO to air Gatti vs Ward Trilogy this weekend
Damn, watching that brutal 9th round, where Gatti went down with the body shot, and found a way to survive that round, and then come back the way he did in the 10th, is breath taking.
During those 2 rounds, tears are flowing big time, and my heart was pounding from the beauty of it all.

Re: HBO to air Gatti vs Ward Trilogy this weekend
First thing I watched when I heard of this tragedy last week. There are so many more great Gatti moments though that you could dedicate a full week to the man. Even in heavy defeat such as against PBF his fights were entertaining and boxing could only benefit from having a guy like Gatti representing it.

No unfortunately.
They just have Jim Lampley doing an introduction, and an ending for each fight.

Those 2 could of slugged it out another 9 times and it would never of become boring.
Castillo-Corrales, Marquez-Vasquez great great feuds. But gatti-ward in my lifetime im pretty sure will never be beat!!

Re: HBO to air Gatti vs Ward Trilogy this weekend
Okay, I have officially moved the tissue box from the bathroom to the coffee table. I got tired of getting up to get them.
Damn, watching Micky survive that 3rd round of the 2nd fight is amazing.

Re: HBO to air Gatti vs Ward Trilogy this weekend
Okay, it's the end of the 2nd fight, and what was just tears flowing, is now starting to become a sob. :bawling:
What really set the sobbing off, is after the 9th round, Buddy said to Gatti, "can you give me 3 more minutes?", to which Gatti yelled "yes sir!". That sums Gatti up, a man that shows respect, and a man that gives 3 more minutes.

Personally in my lifetime (since 1984) the only trilogies that match up to Gatti-Ward are Barrera-Morales and Bowe-Holyfield. I have spells of each being my favourite but all in all I can't seperate them.

Re: HBO to air Gatti vs Ward Trilogy this weekend
End of the 7th, and I am full out bawling over this work of art.

Re: HBO to air Gatti vs Ward Trilogy this weekend
I am a complete wreck right now. I was crying so hard at the end, I actually had a snot bubble come out of my nose. :p
I need a pick me up. I think that I'll pop in Cotto vs Gomez. I need to see Gomez take punishment for ending Gatti's career.
How fitting for me, that my man gives Gomez a good beating in AC, in front of Gatti, and that Gatti gives Cotto a diamond encrusted key necklace after the fight, as symbolic gesture of giving him the key to AC.
