Roy Jones Like You've Never Seen Him Before
Promoting a fight!
Jones-Lacy presser quotes! | Fightnews - Boxing News Updated 24/7
OK, so I was only about 6 or 7 years old in Roy Jones true prime. But I've always known of promoter frustrations with Jones, he was notorious for his unwillingness to promote fights. Somehow, that stuck with me from that young age to now, just seems like one of those things I have always known.
Well......now he's not only showing up at press conferences, he's dressing up as Captain Hook :appl: I am rooting for Jeff Lacy, or at least I was. This is a bit difficult to call now.

Re: Roy Jones Like You've Never Seen Him Before
Where was this showmanship when Roy was in his prime? He would have had better PPV numbers

Re: Roy Jones Like You've Never Seen Him Before
That is good stuff. He's always taking himself a little to serious but good to see him cut up.
Was looking forward to this being here in the Superdome but looks like Mississippi got it.No suprise there.Going with Lacy.

Re: Roy Jones Like You've Never Seen Him Before
If Roy keeps things in the middle of the ring then it's an easy victory against a way past it Lacy. But the last time he kept a fight in the center of the ring was when he beat John Ruiz. So it's a closesr fight then it should be but I think it will be exciting. Lacy gets a lot of shit but when was the last time he was in a bad fight? I'm actually looking forward to this now that my hopes for Lacy ever being what he could have been have evaporated.

Re: Roy Jones Like You've Never Seen Him Before
Captain Hook wins this one. Lots of showboating and fast combinations.
It's a shame that Roy was so uptight with the media and the public after he turned professional and didn't present himself a lot better through his career. If he'd been a bit more like this from the start he could have been a PPV superstar.

Re: Roy Jones Like You've Never Seen Him Before
Why is Jones taken such risks at middle age when he was boring as fuck in his prime.
Dont understand it.

He knows that sun has set.Would have been blockbuster if he took a similar route at peak instead of putting 'thats not enough money for me to risk everything for' every time he was asked about a perceived serious top threat and challenger. Can you really put a number on that though?

He's got another fight coming up? I think it's time to hang them up Roy. Is he broke?

He is past his prime and I too think he should quit but he went 12 rounds with Calzaghe with a pretty bad cut for most of it. Not bad for a shot fighter. He can still put on a good show and make money.

Re: Roy Jones Like You've Never Seen Him Before
Roy Jones Jr living out his Dustin Hoffman fantasy. Very nice to see.
I'm not all that enticed by this matchup TBH. Lacy hasn't really looked very effective in years now and Jones is way over the hill.
I can see Jones Jr playing games and using his experience and speed to win rounds. I see Lacy get hurt a fair bit too. I will actually be willing on Lacy because I always go for the underdog, but I struggle to see it happening for him.

Re: Roy Jones Like You've Never Seen Him Before
jones should win the fight lacy may be dangerous for a couple of rounds but he is more shot than jones is .jones may even stop lacy mid to late rounds personally i would like lacy to retire .and jones looks like he needs medication dressed up like hook

Re: Roy Jones Like You've Never Seen Him Before
Jeff Lacy is going to get destroyed, and as a RJJ fan im not really interested in this fight. I mean Jeff Lacy has been getting gift decision's, against the likes of Otis Griffin, Epifanio Mendoza. Is RJJ really that desperate for a win ?

No, but Roy loves his money, & Lacy generates more still than most guys in the LHW division

Re: Roy Jones Like You've Never Seen Him Before
I really wish he would just hang up the gloves once and for all. I said before he is becoming a circus act and this just proved it. Don't get me wrong he was one of my favorite fighters but this is getting really ridiculous.

I'll be willing Jones on. I wish he'd retire now but for some reason I still have hairs on my arms standing on end when he fights. Fanboyism I suppose.
