WHo and Why?
Manny and Cotto.
Marquez just isn't popular enough above the southern AMerican border, and Mayweather hasn't been in the sport for awhile. I think the general public is only interested in Mayweather-Pacquiao. Its unfortunate because I think the Mayweather-Marquez match up is more interesting. I just don't see Cotto with enough tools in his belt.
I suspect Pac-Cotto, more on the basis that Cotto is a bigger name among casual sports fans than JMM. I think that PBF & Pac are a similar level of stature & a fight between the two would probably sell as much as these two combined.
Pac and Cotto. but i do agree that PBF vs JMM is a bit more interesting.
I'm with everyone, Pac vs Cotto.
I think Pac is just too fresh in the general public's mind. They also both bring huge followings behind them. Boxing fans will tune into both but the recreational fans are interested in Manny right now.
Pac - Cotto and it won't even be close.
IMO Pac/Cotto
Why am I having a bad flashback with this thread subject title? :hypnotized:
;)
My guess is JMM / PBF will not sell out at the gate 3/4 to 4/5, unless devoted fans of Chris John and Rocky Juarez take up the space. I wouldn't recommend scalping any tickets. But it should do well in PPV's breaking 300K mark. If it breaks 400K, it's a very successful fight.
Unfortunately as great a boxer as Marquez is, I don't think he has the nationalistic fan base enjoyed buy other Mexican greats like Chavez, Barrera and a few others.
If there are many boxing fans not going to buy this fight, why would the casual fan buy it?
Conservatively Pacquiao / Cotto should easily break 700K PPV's and most likely sell out at the gate very quickly. Speculator's can scoop up tickets without hesitation. If there is more publicity outside of boxing's realm, it could even pass the 1 million mark. Come the eve of the fight people might even think of selling their spot and watching it on CCTV.
Cotto is bigger than Pacquiao physically and I think every time Pacquiao beats a bigger and bigger opponent, intrigue outside the sport grows. This fight has that intrigue inside the sport. Now that Pacquiao's next opponent is set, we will have to see how much publicity momentum the fight get's as we move closer to November.
In terms of sale this should be a mismatch. Pac and Cotto both have a great fan base. PBF has a great fan base but JMM just doesn't have it. JMM is a very great fighter but he isn't exciting and he doesn't play the villain so he has no fanatics for his fights. Look at the dismal numbers of both fights of Pac/JMM. Its not fair but JMM marketability doesn't even cover half of his talent value. Not to mention that the casual fans want to see blood and guts and that is what you will probably see in Pac/Cotto. PBF/JMM will be science and this is unattractive to casual fans.
i would say Manny vs Cotto.
i have looked on quite a few web-sports sites.....but can't find any early odds on the fight.......anybody know the early odd's ?
thanks scott in cali
No ones talking about Floyd Marquez anymore, it's sad because I'd like Marquez to get a massive payday because he deserves it. It's just not an interesting fight for me, I really don't think JMM has what it takes this late in his career to move up and fight a top guy.
I'm getting both PPV. Watch them on HD. Get high ass fukk. Than bring myself back down by getting drunk ass fukk
Easy answer. Pac/Cotto.
Pac = draw
Cotto = draw
Floyd = draw
jmm = great fighter but hasn't pulled in without Pacquiao.
The better question:
Which will draw more Pac vs. Cotto or Pac/Cotto vs. Mayweather?
^^^ Pac vs Mayweather is the undisputed number one drawing fight out there because they're the only two fighters who can legitimately be considered PPV draws. Cotto's a bigger draw than JMM but I'm not sure he's really a draw yet. He's kind of a draw, in that he can sell out MSG like pretty much nobody else.
Cotto vs Mayweather would most likely do better than Pac vs Cotto because that would most likely mean Cotto beat Pac in a fight that drew somewhere around a million buys and would probably turn Cotto into a draw.
To be fair though, Cotto whilst not a superstar in the way Floyd or Manny are, is probably the best PPV draw after them maybe in the entire sport. I think he's definitely a bigger draw then Mosley. Maybe only Pavlik if he sorts out or Hatton if he has some Lazarus like comeback do better numbers then him.
Given the rumours about the postponement of PBF JMM being down to poor sales it seems obvious that the Pac fight will take in higher figures as far as seat sales and PPV.
would agree that Pac is fresher in the mind and has generated a lot of interest amongst casual fans so it's more likely they would sign up for PPV.
HBO 24/7 isn't an absolute guarantee that a fight will do huge numbers. Calzaghe-Jones was 24/7 and I don't think they even cracked the 300,000 mark. I'd be willing to bet Pac-Cotto does more than twice as much as Mayweather-Marquez.
I'm sure many boxing fans will see you eye to eye on that one. I don't think the mega appeal is about who the best fighter is. It seems logical that it would be but Mega bouts have more to it than that. Don't bother to ask me what it is, because if I knew that, I'd be a very very wealthy man!
Take a look at this: Kobe and Jeter Go Wild Over Pacquiao vs Cotto - Boxing News. Big celebs like Kobe showing up at the fight will just attract more media coverage of the fight and bring in incidental boxing fans that are there for the celebs. It's only been a few days since the announcement and there is already a line forming. Cotto/PAC is going to be one huge blockbuster for sure.
Who knows if JMM/PBF can do the same. I don't think it can.
I think both will sell out at the venue. PBF-JMM probably not until a couple of weeks before and PAC-Cotto probably pretty quickly...PAC-COTTO will have much higher ppv numbers though.
Most people aren't spending money on both fights - especially w/ a megafight between the 2 winners on the horizon.
personally, I hope both have semi-weak numbers so that early in 2010 they have a card that has a co-main event.
With the costs/ticket coupled w/ a shitty economy, most people want more bang for their buck.
PAc-Cotto without any competition possible at the key; Pacman drags more peoples and attention than PBF and Marquez together at this point and Cotto is also more popular than PBF or JMM, I am not saying that this huge gap of popularity is necessarily justified but that's how things are at the moment.
Pac-Cotto is a great match-up and almost guranteed to be a great fight. The Margarito-Cotto fight showed they can do great numbers (around 500,000) with a great match-up without either being a huge star.
Floyd has only ever done great numbers with two other great sellers.
No-one gives Marquez a hope in hells chance and Floyd aint the type to go out a brutally destroy him - so why buy it?
Is this a serious question? Are you trying to find out if PBF is on this board, he would be the only one that would say otherwise.
Only one way this goes PAC/Cotto
