College Football 2009
otherwise known as the lets talk about Alabama football thread :beat:
Too soon? Probably too soon but I am getting tired of waiting on the season to start so I can quit watching ghey stuff like boxing.
We have exactly 39 days 22 hours 15 minutes and 50 seconds till the season starts.
Florida will probably win the National Championship this year. Oh well. It will be ours after Tebow is gone. He's not a virgin cause he's a Christian, he's a virgin cause he's a big fag.
My top ten
1)Florida
2)Oklahoma *
3)Texas *
4)USC
5)Alabama
6)Ohio State *
7)Oklahoma State *
8)LSU
9)Virginia Tech *
10)Oregon
* Garbage Team.
Alabama should be amazing defensively. On offense we need our new offensive line to come together quickly and Greg McElroy, our new QB, just needs to be solid. The thing is for all the talent we've amassed it will take a few years to get a really talented QB in place as they can't really play as a freshman like some other guys can.
And of course we have the best player in college football outside of that gay, Tebow. Julio Jones.
http://www4.pictures.gi.zimbio.com/A...C0LpZTMbxl.jpg
We have two of the best linebackers in the country in Rolando McClain and Donta Hightower

http://assets.espn.go.com/photo/2008...ttebow_576.jpg
We have Javier Arenas, future first round draft pick, good corner, amazing return man.
http://photos.al.com/photos/alphotos...228342dffa.jpg
Another amazing recruiting class led by these three guys shown here, from left to right, Trent Richardson, big time HB, could be our first Heisman trophy winner, D.J. Fluker, 6'8 360 pound Left Tackle, and Nico Johnson, ILB. All with the very trendy wife beater as you can tell.

We start off another possible national championship season with Virginia Tech who really has nothing to make us worry about on defense. Hopefully we just don't screw it up. Clearly they are terrified already as seen by them comparing us to Skynet!

I guess other people will want to talk about other teams. Amat will go on about the greatness of Cal. The Cliff Notes version is that they have a good running back but have too many smart people. If Mick were still around he'd go on about how great USC is.

Re: College Football 2009
This may be my greatest thread
I dedicate it to the memory of Joe Kines (who's not dead), a great Defensive coordinator at Alabama who became interim head coach for the bowl game three or four years ago and gave the greatest halftime interview ever

Re: College Football 2009
Living in Florida all I hear about is the gators and I keep hearing that the gators are going to deploy a different more pass happy offense this year. I'm pretty sure its to work on Tebows throwing mechanics so he is more NFL ready and goes higher in the draft. If this is the case I'm curios to see how they do. I was in Gainesville this past weekend and I was talking to a bunch of UF students and even if they do change there offense up some there pretty confident they can make another run at the championship.
I'm more of an NFL guy but I do try to stay in the loop as far as college goes because I like to see who my Bills can draft.

Re: College Football 2009
I saw Mel Kiper's top 5 Running backs heading to the season and I nearly spit my drink out. No Cal running backs, blasphemy. We have Jahvid Best who should be the guy everyone is talking about and Shane Vereen who everyone will talk about next year, he ran a 9.8 100 meter time once, which would have qualified him for the Olympic team had he gone out. And then Best's name says it all.

It's going to be an uphill battle but we have the best 1,2 combo in the nation imo and also the best secondary in the Pac 10, seriously. Taylor Mays is awesome but he doesn't shut the corners down like Sydquan Thompson. Thompson is legit and has all the same qualities of Nnamdi Asumaugh. This will be an amazing season for the Bears who have the most complete team since...last year. If we can get some consistency at quarterback and some of the linebackers step up, we can challenge USC and Oregon for top spot in the Pac 10. I'm not sure this is the year but if there was ever a year where USC was venerable it's this year before Matt Barkley takes over the reigns and wins at least 1 Heisman at USC. I'm glad he's not starting as a freshman.
-
Re: College Football 2009
To be fair I thought about putting Cal where Oregon was but I don't really know much about them except for Best and I would have had to research them and I want to keep my top ten as uninformed as possible. I actually saw a few Oregon games last year which is amazing considering the Pac 10 seems to work as hard as possible not to be on TV. Maybe that's unfair, I don't know. It seems like the only time I see them is late an night on a Saturday night if I"m just sitting around.
I just put Ohio State there because well they'll be there whether they should or not.

Re: College Football 2009
ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Bama has to have a good running attack. This would make the job at QB a little easier. I hate Floraduh. They are way overrated
-
Re: College Football 2009
That is a great post. World Class.
Florida's pretty great though, unfortunately. :-\ Far from unbeatable though, nobody is really.
-
Re: College Football 2009
Guess you aren't a fan of the Big12. My Aggies will be lucky to get 6-7 wins this year but I will be closely watching my Dad's alma mater, Okie State, to see if they can get over the hump this year. I don't think anyone comes out of the B12 w/o a loss this year. USC doesn't have to many challenges and I wouldn't be suprised if they found their way into the NC game. Florida is always a good bet. Their game with Ole Miss this year ought to be awesome. I could also see Penn State running the table in a weak B10. Can't rule out a Non BCS team finally crashing the party either. Can't wait till the season starts.
-
Re: College Football 2009
You can call Texas and Oklahoma garbage but the Big 12 is the conference to watch this year and while no conference might ever be tougher top to bottom like the SEC has been the past few years, the intrigue factor with the Big 12 is at an all time high with the two GREAT QBs and OK state returning Dez Bryant who is worth watching just him alone.
Oregon is good this year though, I always root for them because the possibility always remains open that I might be an Oregon Duck one day they are definitely on the list of colleges I'd like to attend someday. Of course with my grades this semester if I continue to build on my momentum maybe I can go to to Cal one day 8)
-
Re: College Football 2009
I don't really think they're garbage, I just think the conference as a whole gets a bit overrated cause there aren't many teams at all that play defense and everybody loves a track meet. OU and Texas aren't bad defensively.
Oklahoma State is awful defensively unless they've made some big improvements over last year. They've just got to outscore people and they probably will do that to most people but you can't (and I literally mean can't, there's no gray area IMO) win the National Championship with a defense like they had last year. They'll probably win 10 or 11 games anyway cause their offense is so good.
-
Re: College Football 2009
I thought about posting this in the what are you listening to now thread
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_q4fO7DsIc
One of our talented young guys got arrested for a domestic disturbance. Turned out not to be that much, his girlfriend got arrested too, he didn't hit her or anything, just pushed her when she slapped him all that, charges dropepd, but before all this came out, like the next morning her dad came out in the press and said she probably caused it, FAN OF THE YEAR.

Re: College Football 2009
Thats awesome. Alabama has the luxury of being the best show in state. Auburn pulls some fans but my experience is that a huge majority of the state is a Tide fan. A&M has to play second fiddle to texas in this state. Even in the late 80s and early 90s when we beat their ass 10 out of 11 years the media was always looking to find us cheating. Texas constantly gets a pass when the athletic department or players screw up. If Sherman can get 6-7 wins this year and a bowl to keep his recruiting momentum going we should be back to competing with them again in the next couple years. If we tank this year though it could get ugly.
-
Re: College Football 2009
Alabama will always be the bigger name but I really don't think there's a huge difference in amount of fans, its probably 55-45 in Bama's favor, something like that. Alabama probably pulls more casual fans. It also depends on where you are, there are parts of the state that are more pro-Auburn and vice versa. I don't know how it is in Texas, I assume it goes Texas-Texas A&M-Texas Tech-TCU-Baylor-Houston, something like that?
I was a bit surprised by Franchione's lack of success at Texas A&M. Alabama fans were mad at him for how he handled the whole thing (IMO worse than anything Saban did but Saban's a dick to the media and this in the end is the most important thing) but at the same time we were mad it was kind of cause we all thought he was a good coach.

Fran just never developed talent. He'd get good recruits that would either never get better or most would simply never see the field. The percentage of his top recruits that either left or were kicked off the team is absurd. He allowed A&M's storied defense to go in to the shitter and then tried to use a spread option offense but was always playing from behind because we couldn't stop anyone. He wasted two of the best QB's we ever had in Mcgee and Mcneal by turning them into option backs. Everyone at A&M thought the guy was going to get us to the next level but now he is pretty much blamed entirely for the state that the program is at the moment. It is going to be a tough climb back with top programs like texas, OU and LSU not to mention rising programs like OSU and Tech. Hell even Baylor is looking better.

Re: College Football 2009
Fuck, it is finally almost here. Goodbye baseball, boxing, etc.
There will be a lot of this going on this season
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KO8Wf0VKip4
It looks like I will be in the Georgia Dome Saturday night.
Oh and Rich Rodriguez
Motherfucker he was so close to being our coach, thank you Mrs. Rich Rodriguez for telling your husband you didn't want to come to Alabama. People down here literally send her Christmas cards.
-
Re: College Football 2009
Rich Rodriguez is an ass even at West Virginia when he had about 10 players I really liked, I didn't like Rich Rodriguez. I never knew that about it being the wife that spurned Alabama for Rodriguez, I don't remember it all but was Saban even being talked about as an option for Alabama before bolting Miami or did that come out of nowhere like Petrino packing up after week 14 of the NFL season to go to Arkansas?
-
Re: College Football 2009
Yes it was almost a done deal for Rich to us, glad it didn't happen. There was some speculation for a while with Saban coming to us, that's where he got ripped so much cause he said he wasn't coming at some press conference when he was still at Miami, like he was the first to do that. Speculation built for a while but I didn't believe it all till like two days before they hired him.
Anyway V Tech really doesn't scare me that much (we are death to run on, Tyrod Taylor better be an improved passer) but starting to get a bit worried anyway. There's some speculation that Julio Jones and Mark Ingram won't play, some deal where they went on a fishing trip in the summer, even though the guy wasn't a booster and is apparently an Auburn fan, there's still speculation they might get suspended for a game. We have multiple swine flu cases and our starting DE got shot last night in an attempted robbery. Shot in the arm, he's in good condition but I can't see him playing.
-
Re: College Football 2009
shit, that was painful to watch for a while. LOL we had 498 yards to like 160 and were down 17-16 going into the fourth quarter, if there was a way to fuck up we did it. Thankfully we woke up and kicked ass.
I saw Cal won. Nice retaliation for that early game at Maryland last year, starting at 10 eastern last night. They would have won anyway though.
Oklahoma :o
I sat in a bar yesterday with a bunch of Georgia fans, I've never seen a more frustrated group, haha, it was hilarious.
-
Re: College Football 2009
Ouma,
Yalls RB was an absolute beast yesterday. OU probably wins that game with Gresham and Bradford but either way they did not reload this year as some thought they wood and unfortunately it looks like the damn mormons are legit. My old man and uncle played at OSU so we root for them. When Georgia scored right off the bat I was like shit here we go again, but suprisingly the defense played lights out from there on.
-
Re: College Football 2009
Well I'm glad ECU only had to play 4 quarters....our secondary played horrible!
-
Re: College Football 2009
I was rooting for Coffee. Fucking Oregon, the 4th best running back in the Pac 10 (not even close to the best like ESPN has said a couple times) goes psycho afterwards. My man Masoli didn't put up the numbers he's capable of, City College of San Francisco product I always root for those.
Cal might have the best secondary in the nation. I'd be interested to hear who is any better.
-
Re: College Football 2009
YAY Boise St.!!!! That dumb motherfucker for Oregon runs for -5 yards the entire game and then figures that punching an opposing player AND trying to fight the opposing fans would make his night better.
-
Re: College Football 2009
I'm pretty sure that if they played the last game of the year instead of the first game of the year, the result would be different. You never know with Oregon or Cal quite what to expect season to season besides like 8 wins. Obviously Blunt is stupid, but hopefully he can learn from this and work to be a monster at the combine.
-
Re: College Football 2009
Oklahoma wasn't playing well with Bradford, of course Gresham was out which doesn't help cause he's a player.
Other than that its hard to say about most teams. I wasn't surprised OK State beat Georgia but I was surprised they held them to 10 as I thought last year they were kind of awful defensively.
Ohio State looked underwhelming as hell, I'm picking USC to go in and win even with a true freshman QB.
We have more weapons than we did last year. Its just a matter of our new line and QB continuing to play well. Cause we have two WR's in Maze and Hanks to complement Julio whereas last year we just had Julio, we have two TE's who can catch the ball and two monsters at HB, more people know about Ingram after Saturday but Roy Upchurch is good too, dude gets in the open field and tries to eat people's children, he ran right at a few people just so he could hit somebody.
-
Re: College Football 2009
I was veyr impressed with Okie State. The offense will be there for them this season and if their defense can keep teams to 21 points they will be a real force. They have Texas and Tech (which didn't like nearly as good) @ home. With Oklahoma probably going to a much more run/defense oriented gameplan w/o Bradfodr I think OSU has to be even with Texas in terms of winning the B12. How about Mizzou looking pretty good against Illinois though?
-
Re: College Football 2009
I didn't really see any of the Mizzou game so I don't know.
Miami-Florida St. :-\ Oh well its a Monday night I'll probably watch.
Georgia fans were so pissed during that game, the bar almost exploded when Georgia got a penalty for blowing up a OK. State WR in the second half on a third down which helped lead to State going up 24-10. If you watched the game you probably know the play I'm talking about. I told them every ref was gonna call that BS rule or not, nobody agreed with me.
-
Re: College Football 2009
FSU-Miami was actually a very good game

Re: College Football 2009
My two favorite teams are and will always be LSU and Notre-Dame, LSU because of the french background over here and the Irish because, well, they were irish with grits in when the team got founded. I must admit though that I don't follow that much collegial football by lack of time and the system of the bowls is quite confusing, even To a North American like me.

As long as Notre Dame has their own TV/BCS contract I will root against them. Just irks me that they get their own special rules for BCS bowls and that no matter who they play on Saturday its on TV.

I agree. such contract is totally unfair for the other teams and it is a rightful reason why to not like them, the thing is having Irish blood myself and cheering for them since I was a little wee kid, I emotionally have a lot of difficulties to stop to like them but I am rational enough to realize that this contract is unfair and not good for the whole collegial scene.

Re: College Football 2009
GATech will win a National Championship within the next 5 years!
ECU-WVU today.....I hope my Pirates can travel well, they have never won at West Virginia.
-
Re: College Football 2009
Tech will never win a NC under Paul Johnson. Guaranteed. Like a 0.0 percent chance.
He's a good coach though but they'll never be able to recruit the top athletes with that offense.

God I hate Tennessee.
Much more than Auburn.
UCLA fucking around and making them look good.
