Roy Jones wants Anderson Silva.
-
Re: Roy Jones wants Anderson Silva.
Yes i heard about this its meant to be happening when Andersons contract ends with UFC and its going to be a boxing match not a MMA fight.
-
Re: Roy Jones wants Anderson Silva.
What is this obsession with wanting Anderson and vice versa? I don't understand it, there really is no money to be made and it does not do anything for their careers and who cares what the outcome would be. If they want each other so bad then go on some remote island somewhere and duke it out.
-
Re: Roy Jones wants Anderson Silva.
I can see the fight selling well because it would draw mma and boxing fans. I would favor Andersen to win at this stage in both fighters careers.
It would be more interesting if he took on Chad Dawson, but it seems fair to choose a past prime Roy Jones seeing that Andersen isn't known as a pro boxer and is not so young himself.

I cant see how there's no money to be made from a fight like this?
Two worlds colliding...? Its a crazy product, i hope it happens

This would be a HUGEEEEEEEEE fight! I don't know where you're from jon09, but UFC/MMA fights get a ton of PPV buys, and countless number of bars show the PPV's.. Not to mention that Silva is one of the King's of MMA. This would be HUGE!
-
Re: Roy Jones wants Anderson Silva.
So when does Silvas contract run out then?
Its clear nobody in Ufc can test him so I hope it happens. Sooner the better cuz Roy is in rapid decline but I dont see where the winner goes in this fight.
-
Re: Roy Jones wants Anderson Silva.

Re: Roy Jones wants Anderson Silva.
This seems possible because now Silva is doing well @ 205 too but doesn't want to fight the UFC LHW champ because they're friends from Brazil. Fighting Roy could be is out.

Re: Roy Jones wants Anderson Silva.
Almost as silly as his costumes....jones wanted calzaghe too and we saw how that ass whooopin turned out. Till you can beat the people in your own sport how bout leaving other sports alone jones. I'm not even positive this guy will beat lacy.

I think if Lacy applies the Pressure Jones will fold about the Middle Rounds. If Jones Jr Fights Silva Boxing Only, Jones Jr will knock him out.

Yes I understand they UFC/MMA get a ton of money but how is a fight like this gonna make millions? If it was a prime Roy Jones then maybe but he is way past his prime and to me really would not bring anything to the table for this. I see why Dana White is not intested. And like I said before whats the point if it happens, Roy has no belts and he would get killed if it was an mma fight against the number 1 p4p mma fighter. Sorry I would rather watch golf that day if and when this fight happens. More power to the rest of you that want to watch it.

Re: Roy Jones wants Anderson Silva.
Hope it doesn't happen, Dana obviously has his head screwed on in not wanting anything to do with this.
Silva is a superb mixed martial artist but he will be giving up 90% of his arsenal to fight in a boxing match, and Roy Jones would get completely slaughtered if he fought Silva in an MMA fight.
It's like trying to race a Formula One car against a rally car, its just impossible. Put them on an F1 track and the F1 Car will absolutely trounce the rally car but stick them on some dusty African country roads and the F1 car won't last a mile without breaking down.

Just like Lacy has made everyone of his opponent fold of late? He doesn't have the tools to even bother RJJ imo. I also think SIlva doesn't stand a chance, and MMA people will learn that the hard way. He's a good boxer, but not an elite one.

I agree. Roy Jones, even now is still a very very good fighter. He's not losing to Jeff Lacy, this will be like his fight with Sheika.
The only guys who are going to beat Jones Jr any time soon are elite fighters, the Chad Dawsons, Kesslers, Taylors, Pavliks etc.
He's not losing to Jeff Lacy and he certainly isn't losing a boxing fight to an MMA fighter no matter how good they are in their own sport.

As far as boxing goes I dont think Anderson has a chance. However if it was MMA then Roy Jones would not have a chance. Look what happens to people in the ufc when they come in with one skill. They loose and have to learn other styles in order to compete.
A proffessional boxer has a massive advantage over an MMA fighter in a boxing match. Boxing is only a part of an MMAs training.
-
Re: Roy Jones wants Anderson Silva.
Silva is going to get smoked. The man lost to some Texieria and then went running to the UFC. A shot old Roy Jones would destroy this Silva guy.
-
Re: Roy Jones wants Anderson Silva.
Well, I see why Silva wants a boxing match with RJJ. Finally he'll get a million dollar paycheck. They don't get those in UFC. But out of all the guys in MMA I think Silva has the best chance to crossover to boxing with decent success. RJJ at this stage makes it interesting but I think he still is too much for Silva. But we are talking as if the fight is next month. This fight may end up being late next year. RJJ is only getting older and losing it more and more. I'd pay to watch because Silva is not a bad boxer at all and of course he is not going in with intent to outclass RJJ. The longer the fight goes the worse it would be for Silva. He must get him out of there. And that is what MMA guys specialize their boxing in.

Re: Roy Jones wants Anderson Silva.
YESSSSSSSSSS! DAN HENDERSON IS FIGHTING SILVA NEXT! After Hendo has smashed his face in and is the new UFC middleweight champion it will make for an intresting fight. An old Roy Jones Jr will beat a damaged Silva!

Henderson may have earned his shot against Anderson but he has no chance of winning. Anderson silva will wait till he sees an opening and exploit it as usual. The only person I see with a chance of beating him is Lyoto Machida. I thought Reshard and Machida had a technical fight but against Anderson Silva. That would be the best fight seen in a while.
I dont think they will fight though as they train with each other.
The other great match is obviously Brock and Fedor. Hate Brock and would love to see him loose again (will not happen though as Fedor signed with strikeforce).
As for Roy Jones. Love to see hin fight the Klitchco's. He would probably loose but at least he would come in with a few tactics, unlike all the heavyweights that have fought them.

Agreed...at this point Jones should worry about the btask in front of him...he has looked sad in his last few outings win or not.....

Silva beats Machida too if they ever met but because they train out of the same camp they already stated they will not fight....Silva has already stated he wants to move to 205 but will not fight for the title

The only fighter other than Machida that would have a chance of beating Silva would have to be GSP. Silva does not like getting taken down even though his ground game is reasonably good, I think that is his weakest area. GSP can take down the best.
Who in the UFC would you match with Anderson Silva?.

Right now not sure really...Seems most of the 205 div is in a transitional...Chuch on his way out...Forrest seems to be slipping the last few bouts....Rashad is bu8sy with ultimate fighter and has Rampage to worry about.....Ax Murderer is done......
Silva has beaten all there is to beat at MW....
i LIKE THE IDEA OF THE gsp MATCHUP...SIZE IS THE ONLY WORRY i WOULD HAVE ON gsp BEHALF......Truth is GSP may soon have to move a division as well because he has beaten pretty much all their is to beat at WW....

Sounds like the only option. If there was a chance to get Fedor into the UFC hes small enough to move down to light heavyweight. That would be a great fight.
I would much rather have him fight Brock. Not because it would be a better fight but because I just want someone to shut Brock up.
Sorry but I hate to see a fighter diirespect his opponent after a match.

Agreed I would love to see Fedor shuts Brocks trap.....Lesner has always acted like a jerk in public

Re: Roy Jones wants Anderson Silva.
This goes back to questions like who is better the boxer or the martial artist. It surely will have its drama and will catch the attention of the public. For those who asked where is this taking their careers, it will be more money... I guess they will have to agree how they will fight, punching and kicking or only punching. I don't feel they should be allowed to fight on the floor and I don't think Jones is crazy to accept that.
Going back to the boxer vs. the martial artist, I believe kicks should be allowed and the fight should be with hand (10 oz) and feet gloves, no floor fighting, no legs kicking... Throwing to the floor may be allowed since they will have gloves and it will make be little bit more difficcult... Just my opinion on how the fight should be if it occurs to have it last for more rounds and be more entertaining.

Re: Roy Jones wants Anderson Silva.
after seeing how Jones looked last night, i'm pretty sure his ass got tight, don't see this fight happening especially with boxing rules only, Silva gets beat up just as bad as Lacy did

the last 2 comments are so friggin idiotic... Shall I remind you what Silva did to Henderson last time out? Henderson got caught in a rear naked choke. I like Hendo and he is one of my favorite 3 but he stands no chance against Silva
Who is the dumb shiit who brought up Texeira? So boo hoo Silva went to the ufc and went on one of the most dominat runs in MMA history:rolleyes:
-
Re: Roy Jones wants Anderson Silva.
ive seen a few people say that silva would beat jones in a boxing match, while silva is very good against guys in the ufc to say he would beat even a washed up jones is ludacris in my opinion, even a 40% jones would school silva
-
Re: Roy Jones wants Anderson Silva.
Anderson Silva is reknowned for his superior striking ability, so, on that basis i feel he would be able to take an ageing Roy Jones. This fight could happen soon as Anderson's UFC contract requires him to have 3 more fights, which should have happened by mid 2010

Anderson Silva is having the same problem in MMA now as Roy Jones had in boxing in the late 90s, there is no-one out there left to beat and the only way to keep getting recognition is to move into deeper water, Jones moved to heavyweight and now Anderson is talking about boxing an elite boxer.
As for GSP vs Anderson, GSP may well be better p4p than anderson but the size deiffernce would be too much IMO

I think Anderson is clearly more willing to face the best fighters whilst in his prime than Roy was. Not saying Roy was scared, but I guess in boxing a top boxer has more say in who he fights, and the purses he can command so politically the best matchups didn't happen.
Anderson however still has a bunch of top class opposition to face. He should stay at 205, showdowns with Rampage Jackson and Lyoto Machida would be huge, Tito is back and that would be a good card.
He could possibly even move to heavyweight to the fight the likes of Coutoure and Nogeria.
Lesnar is probably a step too far but when you consider little BJ Penn has competed as high as heavyweight (along with Dan Henderson and Wanderlei Silva) there is no excuse for Anderson not to push himself at least against the best at 205.
Him and Machida would be awesome, not a casual fan's fight, it would likely be cat and mouse with all feints and and maneouvers but for a purist and technical fan it would be great.
-
Re: Roy Jones wants Anderson Silva.
Gegard Mousasi is who Silva needs to fight. It won't happen anytime soon but once Gegard is done with his Strikeforce contract he will be in the UFC and may very well be the best fighter at both 185 and 205.
