American heavyweights.......
So who do you guys think is the best of the current batch of American heavies?
-
Re: American heavyweights.......
Damn that's a tough list. I went with Chambers.Arreola a close close second. I think Chambers is the all around best fighter. Kevin Johnson is up there as well I would like to see him fight someone a little tougher now.
-
Re: American heavyweights.......
I went with fast Eddie. Toney and Holyfield are done, Arreola is an exciting guy and I like him but he's not proved himself against the kind of competition Eddie has yet.
I also think Arreola is one of those fighters who once he has been beat will fade just Sam Peter, whereas Chambers has shown himself capable of learning from his losses and continuing to improve.
Arreola's high point will come next month, after he gets smashed, as he almost certainly will, his career will fade whereas Eddie could lose a world title fight but still keep himself in the rankings and work his way back thanks to better boxing skills and more discipline and dediction to the sport than Arreola has shown.

Re: American heavyweights.......
Chambers.
Who voted for Toney? ;D
-
Re: American heavyweights.......
Man thats a real tough question, and I really stuggled for an answer basically because I didn't know whether to judge it by who would beat the rest in the list or who would have the best chance against Wlad who is the man in the division right now.
In the end I went for the man who I think would be the best in the list and chose Eddie Chambers, although this may seem strange to some people but of that list I think Evander would still have the best chance against Wlad. I'm not for one minute saying that he would beat him but Evander is and old pro whos been around the block and still seems to have one of the best chins in the game so for me his experience and chin could get him inside Wlads jab once or twice and if he gets there we all know Wlad is rather suspect in the chin area.
But back to Chambers, I don't think he will have much joy Vs Wlad but against the rest of the Americans he is IMO just too crafty and the two men who were better (Toney and Holyfield) are just too old!
-
Re: American heavyweights.......
Damn we suck lol. I'm hoping there is a heavyweight that is up and coming not on that list yet that might step up. Its a shame because these heavyweights are squandering their career which are not on the list. Faruq Saleem 38-0 David Rodriguez 31-0 Malik Scott 32-0 and Donnell Holmes 31-0. Maybe Travis Kaufman will step up. But in the mean time I voted for Arreola who will probably get killed by Vitali.
-
Re: American heavyweights.......
chambers .what a very good list of talent ;D
-
Re: American heavyweights.......
I voted on who would do best vs the current champs and that would be EVANDER HOLYFIELD.
Sure he's old, sure he can't fight like he used to, but do you see anyone else who could possibly MAYBE last the distance with Wlad and Vitali AND beat Valuev (which in my eyes Evander already did). I'm not saying I would ever want to see Evander take on Wlad or Vitali, but he's still a tough SOB

Re: American heavyweights.......
lyle, Are you sure you aren't just being controversial?
Could Holyfield beat Chambers? Really?
-
Re: American heavyweights.......
Sad, but every guy on that list is just another potential victim for those big Russian brothers. :foruml10gc5:

fast eddie would own arreola
Having to actually decide between arreola and chambers really does hit home how seriously poor this division is right now

He never said he could beat Chambers. He said he has gone for the man who he thinks would have the best chance against the current world champs and I agree! I voted Chambers because if the names listed went face to face I think Chambers would be the top man but if I was to put them in with the brothers I too think that Evander would have more chance than anyone else.

I knew I would be able to get at least one of our American friends to bite.:owned:
After years of British heavyweights getting slated by the US boxing fans and press you cant blame use for gloating a small bit.;D(even if I would love a good american HW to clean up the division)

Re: American heavyweights.......
Too bad we cannot make a sort of Frankenstein out of all.It would take a piece of each to make a major player:-X.Life long Holyfield fan but that ship has to and should have already sailed.
Think Chambers is currently the best skilled and pure boxer. But we've seen Chris Byrd already...and frankly Byrd fought with more intensity, ugh.I'll go with Kevin Johnson. He's still a toss up but fast hands,height-size to compete, confidence in bundles.I think he'll have a tough time getting huge fights....Arreola if your going for raw pure power.

How big is the US compared to the UK ? Obviously its going to have more and better heavyweights. But who has the best heavyweight out both the US and UK ? David Haye, without doubt. You cant say anybody on that list would beat Haye.

You can't beat someone when they back out of a fight

Re: American heavyweights.......
I'm a bit shocked some people thing Holyfield would do better against Wlad or Vitali than Eddie Chambers.
I would honestly fear for Evander's safety were he to be put in there with either of them.
We saw James Toney take him apart and that was several years ago.
If he fought either Klitschko he could end up seriously damaged.
Chambers would do ok against Wlad, he'd be all but shut down offensively and would just be looking to survive the late rounds but he wouldn't be seriously hurt.
Evander on the other hand is so old, and so slow he'd just get beaten up and stopped inside 6 rounds.
It wouldn't even be competitive.
Same with James Toney, I have no idea if the guy he is facing next is any good, I doubt he is, but I do know this, Toney, if he wins at all, will only win by a gnat's breath and will look absolutely fucking awful,
They are both at the stage Gatti was when he got knocked out by Alfonso Gomex and have no business being in the ring any more.
I say that as huge fans of both, they just need to be told when to quit.
-
Re: American heavyweights.......
I'd say Chambers. His recent wins over Peter and Dimitrenko put him above the others for me. Although I think Arreola has a better chance against the Klitschko's.
-
Re: American heavyweights.......
Eddie Chambers is clearly the best of that group.
-
Re: American heavyweights.......
I went with Chambers, who has very good fundamentals & looks good when he lets his hands go
But I'll be paying closer attention to Johnson should he be impressive against Solis
