Instant replay about to start in Nevada? - Debut could be Marquez/Mayweather
Re: Instant replay about to start in Nevada? - Debut could be Marquez/Mayweather
LMAO they talked to Joe Cortez about it.
I think it's a good idea for review of questionable fouls, I totally support it.
One question I have is, whose discretion it falls under? Can only the ref call for it? Can cornermen call for it? The Fighters? The judges?
Re: Instant replay about to start in Nevada? - Debut could be Marquez/Mayweather
If Cortez gets to use the replay to his advantage we'll be getting a whole lot of DQ victories...
Re: Instant replay about to start in Nevada? - Debut could be Marquez/Mayweather
I think that such reviews were nothing but necessary for the credibility and integrity of boxing, poor decisions must have the possibility to be overturned, now that they got the good idea, they have to turn the system to work solidly and to not give an extra kick in the groin to Boxing; There must be a group of persons that will watch the foul and judge and just like in american football, put some very important rules to state when and when not a decision can be overturned.

Loooooooooooong overdue.Larry hazard pushed for this in Jersey but I cannot remember seeing it ever used.Commissions and Promoters will have to be on the same page and surely they can work out the kinks.
Wonder if corners would be able to opt when they use it.As in the NFL ??

New Jersey has it, but it was left up to the promoters to provide the equipment necessary to enforce it for a fight. None did, at least not yet.
Here are the basics for it's use in New Jersey, not sure if Nevada will follow the same guidelines.
The innovative New Jersey State Athletic Control Board has announced that effective immediately, instant replay can be utilized during combative sporting contests to review a referee's call or lack of a call. Instant replay will be utilized at the discretion of the lead promoter. Theagency will not force a promoter to utilize instant replay, but will not deny the promoter the opportunity to do so. The agency does not have the technology readily available, so it will be up to the promoter to provide the necessary equipment. The use of such technology would allow the Commissioner to review issues such as:
1. Knockdowns versus slips
2. Accidental versus intentional fouls
3. If a cut was the result of legal strike
4. If a fighter beat the count
5. Low blows
6. Whether or not a strike landed before the bell rang.
The Commissioner, if approached during a round by the contestant's chief second, would review the issue at the end of the round. The bout would be temporarily stopped during the rest period and the Commissioner would have a maximum of three minutes to render a decision or choose to reserve his judgment because further review is needed. Upon the Commissioner's ruling, the bout would then be restarted and would continue.

There in lies the problem.Almost too many chefs in the kitchen tending the broth. How about a Czar of sorts appointed by the State board but sounds like they dont want to risk having a promoter look elseway.....I really see why they would have to halt the action, not big on that at all.Quite a bit to work out it seems just hope they work as one and not pass the ball back and forth.
Re: Instant replay about to start in Nevada? - Debut could be Marquez/Mayweather
:appl:
Finally, replay is way long overdue how many fighters wish this was in effect for their bouts within the past 5 years.
Re: Instant replay about to start in Nevada? - Debut could be Marquez/Mayweather
All judges need direct action screens in front of their faces too on their tables , if the ref or the other fighter is in the way of them scoring properly their eyes fall to the screens.
Re: Instant replay about to start in Nevada? - Debut could be Marquez/Mayweather
All major sports need instant replay. This could potentially be a way forward for boxing.

I think so too, football needs it as does boxing. Look at rugby and tennis. It adds a bit of suspense and exitement once a replay is called. Boxing needs it too IMO, they have time for it between rounds to clarify fouls and disputed knockdowns. Still, the person making the call needs to be Kosha, otherwise why fucking bother?

Needs to be shown to the crowd too
Re: Instant replay about to start in Nevada? - Debut could be Marquez/Mayweather
Rugby league over here has been plagued by delays in the past whilst the video referees review something over and over.
It depends on a lot of stuff, can the ref halt the fight to review during a round, who reviews it and makes the final call, do they let the ref see it from a different angle on the screen and decide, lots of stuff to be worked out on it but all in all a good decision.
A lot of old hands would be sweating that's for sure, no more sneaky hits on the refs blindside, or acting like someone ripped your balls off for a hit on the belt.;D
Re: Instant replay about to start in Nevada? - Debut could be Marquez/Mayweather
The idea of replay is good but they shouldnt have it so there can be 3 mins between rounds a gassimg or hurt fighter could easily ask for something to be reviewed and gain precious seconds instead there should be a replay official (used in NCAA football) who would alert the ref between rounds about anything which needs to be overturned

Wishful thinking on my behalf ;D

Oops! [The use of instant replay was adopted on a limited basis and will be at the sole discretion of the referee. Kizer said it will be used only when an injury forces a fight to be stopped.
"An eye poke, a cut, something along those lines," Kizer said. "The cut happens, the fighter cannot continue and the referee makes a call whether it was caused by a punch or a head butt. If he feels the use of replay will help him be sure, he can review it. It's no different than the NFL. If the replay is inconclusive, the initial call stands."
Replay will not be used, Kizer said, to determine such things as whether a knockdown is caused by a punch or was a slip.]
When I read through the article, it doesn't look like Nevada is using it that same way as NY.
Reading the article further, looks like Arum got through to the commission and is allowing Edwin Valero to apply for a license!

Hell if a commission will allow guys like Ali (in 1980) to get a license beyond their real ability to defend themselves why shouldn't Valero get one.
