Ricky Hatton planning to move up to cruiserweight

Re: Ricky Hatton planning to move up to cruiserweight
Briliant, he looks like he's eaten Manny Pac in a revenge fueled binge. He just reminds me of Duran now and Morales, they are both huge now too...... It does dissapoint me to see one of my favourite boxers so overweight and so far away from being an athlete.... Plain greed hey....

He has never been a healthy person with his drinking lifestyle. He stopped training and it caught up with him. I hope he decides to give up boxing for good. He has had a great career and only lost to the best pound for pound fighters. He has made his mark in boxing but I dont think he has anything else to offer. I think he has been burning the candle at both ends with hard training and hard drinking. His health is suffering for it.

;D
As long as he's through with boxing I have no problem with him looking like a bowling ball. If he's still thinking about fighting on he's an idiot though.

Re: Ricky Hatton planning to move up to cruiserweight
I honestly think the weight thing is over rated massivly. You have to realise hes 5 ft 6, ive met him twice when hes not training and his face is the place where he looks huge, id say tops there hes about 175 lbs, now you have to remember he comes in on fight night at about 152-154 thats a 20lb drop.
Nearly all boxers have to drop weight Calzaghe blows up to 200lbs but he carrys it better cos hes a bigger man.

AH yes, out come the excuses. he stopped training so PAC knocked him out. uh huh.
He got totally outclassed when he stepped up to top tier is what happened.

Re: Ricky Hatton planning to move up to cruiserweight
Wow getting knocked out by the top p4p fighters = more money = more food = more alcohol and a whole lot more of Ricky Hatton than I'd like to see. Whats next? He will probably retire for a couple of years and come back and get knocked out by whoever is the next number 1 p4p and balloon up to 300 when its all over with. P.S Ricky its been fun but stick to the buffet and promoting and call it a career and enjoy being a family man because you can't keep doing this to yourself.

Yeah, and he'll say that he tried a comeback and only got beat by the best. :D

Re: Ricky Hatton planning to move up to cruiserweight
Jesus! He looks like some fat look-alike I bet he has 2 passports, one fat and one thin:-\

Re: Ricky Hatton planning to move up to cruiserweight
I don't have a problem with him looking the way he does if he's retired. I do lose respect for him as an athlete when he thinks he can get away with this when he obviously can't , it borders on arrogance and then he would expect the fans to fork out good money to watch him again.
I see someone mentioning that others blow up between fights but carry it better, could that be because theirs isn't all based on pies and beers.

Re: Ricky Hatton planning to move up to cruiserweight
Hatton all bundled up outside the pub. You like that mattboxingfan? :tease-new:

Is that pic for real? If it is then that is not a man who has any intention of fighting again!

Wow I stand corrected. That makes it more amazing that he was able to get down to 140 at all.

Re: Ricky Hatton planning to move up to cruiserweight
This pic sums up why Ricky could never be a truly great fighter. Aside from his one dimensional fighting style...his ballooning up and down in weight in between fights, damaged him. It's one thing if this trend started to appear later in his career...but he seems like he was never one to take care of his body in between fights.

To be a truly great fighter you surely have to be a truly great athlete too. It'd be interesting to see how many fighters who are/were great that are/were an exception to the rule.....
I'd say Duran would have to be at the top of that list. Anyone think of any others????

Im talking about now. Not before the Pac fight. Your quick to jump in there when your beloved pac man is mentioned.
Hatton did get totally outclassed but he has had much harder punches thrown at him before that. I believe that a career of getting hit in the face has weakened his punch resistance. That other than his balls out approach was the only thing going for him.

Re: Ricky Hatton planning to move up to cruiserweight
Well, it's nothing new really. I can't help but feel that Hatton is done now anyway. There are no announcements on the horizon, and what with being over 30 and never really been one for watching the diet, you would imagine the time to hang them up has come. If he isn't wanting to fight yet, then the fire has surely burned out.

Carlos Monzon certainly lived large outside of the ring whilst still fighting. The difference being that Monzon & Duran were supremely talented boxers & could get away with it due to their skills. Ricky just doesn't have anywhere near the same talent

Re: Ricky Hatton planning to move up to cruiserweight
Exclusive pic there Sweat pea, nice find. Iv'e never seen Hatton that fat before.
I always though he stayed in great shape between fights

You can compensate quite a bit for lack of "natural" athletic ability with great discipline, skill, smarts, and heart. I think people sometimes buy in to much into natural ability. Sure, it doesn't hurt...but so many great fighters have worked extremely hard to MAKE themselves into great athletes/fighters. And we have certainly seen examples of boxers with great physical ability but lack of discipline/heart who have wasted their talents.

The other was Monzon, who only began training some 3-4weeks before a major fight. In between fights he chained smoked, drank like a fish, screwed anything that moved and avoided being killed by his wife! How he managed to always make 160lb is beyond me, he never porked out like Hatton though! Hatton won't comeback from this, i just watched the footage of this and he looks more like Ricky Gervais than Ricky Hatton!

I hope not, him and MAB both have been in too many wars, and need to retire, and enjoy the good life.
I love them both, but it's time.

Re: Ricky Hatton planning to move up to cruiserweight
Now we only miss Naseem Hamed and we have the fab fat 3. The good thing in seeing it is that it gives me hope that Hatton will really retire for good.
