Fedor v Rogers

I think Fedor loses this fight badly.

Brett Rogers is big, quick, powerfull and quite skillfull.

Fedor struggles against boxing and hasnt fought in a cage before, I want to put a bet on this because im presuming the odds will be well stacked for Fedor.

Rogers is the kind of heavyweight mma needs, hes interesting to watch and trys to take the opponents head off, I could be wrong and it could be too early for Brett, hes only had 10 paid fights I think but if Arlovski could make Fedor look bad and back him up from punches, I just see Rrogers doing a number on him;)

Put a pound on Rogers and you have a chance of winning that amount again.

Well from what I saw of Fedor v Arlovski then Fedor will lose to Rogers, he doesnt handle boxing very well and if he gets caught like he was against Arlovski hes going down, Fedor couldnt get in for a take down because he couldnt get past Arlovskis fists, it was Arlovskis chin that let him down yet again;D

I seen to remember Arlovski getting knocked out when he was jumping at Fedor with a flying knee and that punch came from nowhere.
However your getting me interested now being so confident your fighter will win. I am from the UK and they dont show strikeforce on any TV channel. Is there somewhere on the internet I can watch a live broadcast of this fight and when will the fight be on?

Yes, Arlovskis chin is shite!!

Up till that point though, Arlovskis boxing was backing Fedor up and had him clueless as to how to counter it, Fedor had no answer for the boxing until Arlovski got too comfortable and went to knee Fedor, jumping in the air like a knob leaving himself wide open.

The thing is Rogers has good boxing, very good power and is aggressive, the Three things needed to beat Fedor.;)

yeah, and if ever the fight goes to the ground what is going to happen ?

Fedor is one of the best ground fighter at heavyweight, he knows how to wrestle opponents, taking them to the ground and hitting them really hard, he has this special thing to hit opponents to the ground constantly.

He's very skilful and smart on Submissions, one of the best, in my opinion. We often seems to forget that Fedor has good submissions skills, he's very good at it, submitted Silva in 36 seconds :-).

Plus, Fedor has astonishing fast hands, his boxing skills seems limited, but in fact if you take a look closer, he knows a lot about avoiding punches and counter-punching. In his training DVD, you can see him doing his 3 steps backward while hitting left right combinations. it's the perfect tool against people like Arlovski who tries to put pressure.

Even Mousasi told it during an interview in Holland : Thinking that Fedor has not kickboxing and Boxing skills is just pretty laughable. like he said, maybe he wont KO you with a high kick, but his low kicks and punches are really good.

To conclude, with a good stamina, and exceptional "fighting" spirit, I don't think we can say that Fedor would be "easily" beaten by any heavyweight...

Sure Brett Rodgers has a chance to KO him, but if that fight goes to the ground, I have strong doubt that Rodgers will keep that undefeated record.

Fedor has been in tough spots multiple times. Fujita had him on queer street, Hunt was close to a sub, Randleman powerbombed him, Coleman took him down and was controlling the fight and Arlovski was doing very well. Fedor just wins some way some how. The only detraction one can make is that his striking isn't as polished and technical as some fighters but his handspeed, timing and power are A+. Rogers has a chance b/c of his power and style but he isn't going to bring anything to the fight that Fedor hasn't seen and conquered.

Exactly, Fedor knows how to win and always believe he can turn the tide. I could imagine rogers bombing him till they felt on the ground to finish in a magic arm bar, personally, the only advantage Rogers has over Fedor is a bit more power on the knuckle but that is it.

Seriously? Is he really that different than Hunt or Goodridge?

I think so, well to be honest im not that clued up on all the fighters fedor has fought but watching a few of his bouts he clearly has trouble with good "strikers".

Rogers is a massive man but puts his punches together well something big men in mma seem unable to do, iv read he started out in boxing and believe that is what it will take to beat Fedor, hes unbeaten and hungry to prove a point, this will also be Fedors first time in a cage and apparently it could make a difference in the way he fights?

If Rogers catches Fedor clean from what iv seen of him he will keep the punches pouring in and I just dont see Fedor coping with it, he was being outfought by Arlovskis boxing till the twat jumped in the air and begged to be whacked;D

If Rogers is going to make it a fight he will have to show more than what I've seen so far. Mirko was widely considered the best pure striker in the business when he fought Fedor and was soundly beaten in all facets of the game. The only guy I've actually thought had a chance was Arlovski with his tremndous athleticism, power and technical striking. Then he jumped in the air :rolleyes:

It will take a very special fighter to beat Fedor. Rogers is not a special fighter. Strength alone is not enough. Speed alone is not enough. Size alone is not enough. A combination of these things most likely will not be enough. For a fighter to have a chance against Fedor...the athleticism is an obvious given. But more importantly...mental strength and intelligence is a must. We all know Fedor is a beast...strong, deceptively fast, great striking and ground skills, and a granite chin. But what separates him...is his ring intelligence and calmness. He NEVER panics. You might look decent against him for a bit...but he patiently adapts....and BOOM...it's over. So not only do you have to worry about his knockout power or his fantastic ground skills...you have to deal with his strong will and mind. Plus...he is humble and hardworking. You never get the sense this guy slacks off. He isn't into the hype or the hoopla. Why also do you think he will not get baited so easily by a clown like Daina White. The guy just loves to prepare and fight.

If mousasi doesn't go to the UFC after his 3 fight contract with Strikeforce look for him and Fedor in 2011 sometime. An epic fight if they both keep winning and it happens.

I really doubt so, he survived Cro Cop devastating attacks and survived, we don't know how, the suplex of the suplex from K Randelmannnn, Roger will need that, luck and God on his side to earn anything at all as Fedor beats him fair and square in every other aspects of the game.

Someone who can basicly just box well, throw proper punches, someone whos actually got balance and is aggressive and put punches together well would wipe the floor with %99 of mma, Rogers has a very good boxing technique, he is supposed to have good wrestling, kicks and take down defence as well but I think he wins with his punches alone.

If someone as sloppy as Liddell could make a career out of just punching in mma, Rogers deffinitly will and Fedor cant handle boxing, he needed Arlovski to jump in the air and give him his glass chin on a plate, that didnt prove Fedors power, just how stupid Arlovski is, Andre was having a very comfortable with Fedor up to that point using basic boxing, Rogers walked through Arlovski like he wasnt there;D

Boxing is a part of MMA but great boxing does not equate to beating 99% of MMA fighters.

Well, shit boxing from Lidell kept him head and shoulders above a lot of second rate fighters like Ortiz and Silva, until someone with good boxing themsleves put him to sleep;D

Well thats one opinion. Boxing and MMA striking are apple and oranges. Being a great boxer does not in and of itself make one a great Striker and vice versa. You might as well be comparing a fast pitch softball pitcher and MLB pitcher. Same end result but completely different. Chuck much like Hughes, Tito, Coleman and others didn't continue to evolve as a fighter and he got old. His chin isn't as solid, his timing and reflexes are not as quick but more importantly he has simply been figured out. Rashad/Rampage/Shogun all pressed him but waited for him to throw first then countered. Chuck fights pretty well moving backwards but only as a counterpuncher. In his prime he is an MMA ATG and his resume of beaten foes speaks for its self. and Wanderlie as second rate? Seriously maybe you should check out some Pride footage. So do we have a sig bet? If Rogers doesn't KO Fedor I pick your sig for a month and vice versa.

That will be my prize for being right:( I was hoping there were going to be some big odds in this fight, seeing as though Fedor should be an overwhelming favourite, I wanted to put some cash on but only if its worth it, I think Rogers is like 5 to 1 which wont make me a fortune, I was hoping like 20 to 1 and up;D

That is just one example. In most cases people who come into mma fights with one skill end up loosing to the more experienced fighters with many skills.

Rogers probably won't land one punch on Fedor. I'm calling it now... Fedor lands a huge left hand to start things out and drops Rogers, this is followed by Fedor grabbing an arm and taking it home. Fedor by armbar submission round #1. I'm calling it!

I wouldn't say that Lidell only had one skill. He had the ability to stuff most take downs and was able to get right back to his feet when he was taken down.
I don't think excellent boxing skills would do you much good if you can't keep the fight standing. With that being said, I think a good boxer with good take down defense could go along ways in MMA. The key being able to dictate if the fight remains standing or not.

The commentators obviosly wanted Rogers to win, as soon as he done something it was amasing. He did hit Fedor with a good punch and gave him a few seconds of good ground and pound but nothing Fedor has not been against before.
I dont want to see a rematch I would rather see Fedor get a better challange. The likes of Brock, Anderson Silva, Shogun, Machida.
I know most of these are light heavyweight but Fedor could move down easily.

Don't know much about strikeforce honestly, this was the first card of theirs that I saw. I have no idea if they got anyone else good to throw at fedor, my knowledge of mma is pretty limited and I just know the big names really...knew more about it when pride fc was around and you could watch it weekly on fox sports net...i don't think i've seen a loser be as dastardly whiny as rogers tho...

Well... Not surprising at all, Rogers did almost nothing... one good punch, a few seconds of pounding attempt that almost ended up in an armbar for Fedor. Not surprising neither, Fedor recovered pretty well from the punch though his nose bridge was bleeding like a Friday the 13th victim and he eventually knocked out Rogers cold in the second round with an Emperor's punch on the button. So Ross.... no, good boxing skills and good strength aren't enough to defeat Mother Russia.

I imagine that Fedor will face the Strikeforce champ Overeem next followed by a title defense against Werdum. Both these guys are decent HWs but none will really challenge Fedor. Not sure who exactly that Dream has in their HW stable to put in against Fedor. I think the big picture is to have him and Mousasi keep winning and eventually face each other.

Its a shame, I thought that Rogers would have enough to beat Fedor, he wasnt out when the fight was stopped, he was dropped hard but still had alot about him, he could have continued or even been allowed the luxury of seeing whether he could at least get back to his feet.

Rogers was a novice, he only had 10 fights, given a few more fights against better opposition I think he would have wan, I did say it might have been too early but Rogers could have continued:mad:

This was a novice, but Fedor did struggle in the cage and yes I do think good boxing will splatter Fedor, Rogers didnt really use his boxing, apart from the jab that split Fedors nose, he managed to handle Fedor on the deck as well.

He deffinitly should have been given time to prove he could carry on though.

Fedor's nose had been damaged during training, hence it busting open from a jab. Sorry doesn't matter how many more fights rogers had he wasn't going to beat fedor. As someone else mentioned you better be the complete all around package to beat fedor, because that's what he is, good at everything, and superb in some aspects. People say he was losing this and that fight up till the ko punch, or submission or whatever and try and claim it's luck or whatever, which is stupid imo cause you can see he's constantly thinking and trying to find that moment...also if fedor was allowed to continue rogers would have been in a hospital and that is not hyperbole, rogers was curling up in a fetal position fedor would have busted him all kinds of ugly, he was dazed pretty bad by the punch that put him down.
