Vargas kinda had the Corralles curse, where he was a man without a weight division.. not effective, strong or any real punch resistance for the heavier weights

Bad,bad.......Fred sanford aweful.Love ya Vargas but NO *Vargas vs Hatton* vacant IHOP cruiserweight strap :cwm13:
make this fight!:feedme:

Re: Vargas coming out of retirement?
If he's going to fight at that time, then he'll have to fight at heavyweight, because no way can he safely loose all that weight in time.
I really hope that he isn't reconsidering coming back.
-
Re: Vargas coming out of retirement?
I didn't even have to read the article to post my thoughts. Vargas is HUGE! If he had to lose all those pounds to fight at an effective weight, he would be drained like crazy!! Not to mention he's been out of the ring for a while.

His opponent would apparently be Hector Comacho Jr., who inexplicably called him out after his last fight. It can't be anything more than talk and bullshit, but it's insanity for him to even consider a return.

Re: Vargas coming out of retirement?
...And I was just reading about how Camacho Jr. was saying he is rededicating himself to the sport of boxing. That he is in love with training, and he feels great. He is tired of living in his dad's shadow, and he's ready to beat the best in the division.
"Also, if you could tell <Vargas> that restaurant-owning cream-puff to come out of retirement, lose 50 pounds, and cut that cute little curly hair thing on his forehead again so we can rumble!"
c'mon Camacho. Your article sounded so sincere, too.

Re: Vargas coming out of retirement?
i doubt that will happen. vargas is an old old 30 year old.
-
Re: Vargas coming out of retirement?
i hope he stays retired if he has to fight i hope he fights some lower level fights and picks up some easy money, and what weight would he fight at light-heavy:o

Re: Vargas coming out of retirement?
Unless he got into serious training for many months I can see him leading with his feet and his head getting timed and going down heavily. He had a massive ego that effected his whole fight style, this public call out to him may well work.

It may or may not work I would like to think he is smarter then that.....
I had an in depth conversation with him once after an interview and Vargas was one of the most down to earth guys I ever spoke to career wise,,,,He is under no illusions about what happened to him he will state frankly in public that he was rushed into fights he had no business being in and was pushed to be a brawler....

Look how big he is here:p
Listen to him too, he don't wanna take anymore punches he is punch drunk. It was a huge shame he was rushed but he still fought his heart out no matter who he faced.
-
Re: Vargas coming out of retirement?
When someone states "I would rather swallow my own blood and die in the ring than quit".
That should tell you two things about the fighter:
He wont be thinking about timing and angles as much as he will be intent on coming forward and fighting with his heart to test yours out.
Thats not a good quality to have as the no 1 for a comeback plan if yor not 100 % fit.
If he tries a comeback, he is going to have to be much more mentally measured and know his limits than he was originally.

I agree with you on everything except him being punch-drunk. He was in a major movie not long ago, in which he was pretty good, & I've seen other recent interviews where he talks pretty clearly. I think this is more of a one-off interview where he's a bit inarticulate rather than evidence he's punch drunk.
Vargas does serve as Exhibit A though every time that we talk about a fighter being rushed. Not everyone can be a Tszyu or De La Hoya & be ready for world titles & the opposition that brings by their 15 pro bout

Re: Vargas coming out of retirement?
I hope he doesn't have the Holyfield's disease too, There is enough peoples risking to get hurt around without jumping in the bag, too.

Vargas sounds completely punch drunk, almost on a par with James Toney. The film he made, Alpha Dog was filmed around 3 years ago, and he did sound fine then but now he doesnt. Not only is his speech incoherent and slurred, he also has the blank/confused facial expression shown by fighters who have taken a few too many.
-
Re: Vargas coming out of retirement?
Man I didn't know he was slurring that bad. Yeah his speech is pretty incoherent. He reminds me of Meldrick Taylor in that interview on HBO's legendary nights.
-
Re: Vargas coming out of retirement?
IM going to be real naive and wishful here... I hope he's just congested or something, maybe getting over a cold :-\

not even close to the degree of Taylor....
They actually needed subtitiles for one portion of the Taylor interview if I remember correctly

Yeah, but he didn't stop his count to yell at the other guy to get into his corner. ;D

Re: Vargas coming out of retirement?
Anyone who gets beat by Mayorga like he did needs to stay home. What does he weigh now like 275? Some fighters just dont know when to quit.

And I'm sure where Chubbys-Ubbsy is spinning, is probably what Hatton was feeling right afterwards as well. :stars:

I've heard him in other interviews as well. And he sounded fine to me. I don't think Vargas is punch drunk. I think he was actually drunk. Or buzzing pretty damn good.
