US Open Thread (Tennis)
I guess I'll start the thread. Who do you guys got winning? Or what do you think about what happened last night, even though nothing crazy really happened yet?
-
Re: US Open Thread (Tennis)
I dont really catch much of the first couple of rounds on tv, just look out for the results. I think this has come way to soon for Nadal in terms of finding his way back from injury, obviously Federer looks the best bet, the way he despatched Murray and Djokoivic in Cincinatti looks good for the top seed.
Cant see past Federer i reckon we have a repeat of last years final, i hope Djoko/Roddick meet in the quaters I reckon that will be a cracker, Roddicks probably playing better now that he did when he was a grand slam winner and world number 1.
-
Re: US Open Thread (Tennis)
I was gonna start a thread earlier about this but it slipped my mind. I'm gonna say it again like I always do I'll be routing for Roddick he really impressed me with his showing at Wimbledon hope he can keep it going in slams and do well again.
I really wouldn't be surprised to see Murray take it either hes been playing very well on hard courts this year.
-
Re: US Open Thread (Tennis)
I want a new US Open champion. Not that I don't respect Federer but I think it would shake up the tennis world.
I agree with SKEL that this tournament came too soon for Nadal. Mix that plus the Open is Nadal's worst major, it doesn't look good for him.
I would like to see Djokovic break through his mental lapses. He has been the only person to win a major besides Nadal and Federer in quite some time. I think he has the tools to do it but his damn head gets in the way.
I like Murray's intensity and I think he has a great chance at winning this tourney. Last year was his first final, if he makes it that deep again this year, I think he's taking it regardless of who he's playing.
And of course I gotta pull for who I've been pulling for all the time. Roddick's starting to look like a top 3 player again (I know he lost to Del Potro twice, but I think he matches up well against Andy). I always said he has the potential to win another major but now he's showing shades of it. I hope the crowds support will carry him, but his draw is sick! In order to get to the quarters he would have to beat Isner, Hass, and Verdasco!? How did he end up with that situation?! It would be sick if he is able to win in that case!

I'm with you re: Roddick he's busted his ass and has come so close, I'd like to see him spend some time at the top.
As for the women, well I pick Elena Dementieva who beat Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova in Toronto recently impressed me. Of course anyone that beats drama queen Williams impresses me.

Re: US Open Thread (Tennis)
Anyone catch the Murray match last night, was wondering how he looked?
-
Re: US Open Thread (Tennis)
My seedings
1.) Fed
2.) Roddick
3.) Murray
4.) Nadal
Think it's too soon for Ndal, hence having him number 4. A fully fit Nadal would be Number 1 for me!

Murray looked OK. I caught the match every now and then but the scores were closer than they had to be. Murray had a bunch of passing shots on the run. Other than that, it was usual Andy Murray.
Did anyone else see Nadal's haircut? His hair looks exactly like Federer's!

Re: US Open Thread (Tennis)
Federer and Serena Williams win again
Maria Sharapova looks as hot as ever in those short skirts, wow :lickish:

Sweet Lord the things I would do to Sharapova! Ivanovic, Dementieva, and some other lesser known girls I've seen play in this Open would get it in the worst ways from good 'ol C-Lo too.
I do see Serena winning too. She rolled over her opponent today. I think she's dropping a little bit of weight and it's only going to make her better.
-
Re: US Open Thread (Tennis)
Murray preferably, Federer otherwise.
Haven't managed to catch any of the games so far due to messy time difference and work schedule. Will hopefully put that to rights over the next few days.

I was about to watch the Williams match last night but then turned it over to Top Chef, I don't watch allot of the girls matches doesn't really do anything for me except Sharapova of course ;D

Sharapova is the loudest screamer on the tour. Every damn shot. That shit annoys the hell outof me. I'm sure if she was with me she'd wake up the whole neighborhood.:p

Think Sharapova does that while getting banged? I would love to be able to confirm this!
WADE, I did the same thing last night. I changed it over during Serena's match. I watch the women's game if there is nothing to do, but I'm more interested in the men's matches.
-
Re: US Open Thread (Tennis)
I would do time in jail for the things I'ld do to Maria Sharapova. That girl is fukking fine.
Ivanovic and Dementieva would get it too.
-
Re: US Open Thread (Tennis)
Roddick looks very sharp tonight. He'll win in three sets, but it's great tennis.
-
Re: US Open Thread (Tennis)
Roddick did look pretty dam good man. I really hope he does deep in this tournament.
-

Apparently the tours governing body are looking into some sort of penalty to stop these fucking annoying screams, which i think is correct. Eventully if they carry on with it after loosing a game or a set then eventully forefitting the match. Im all for it.

hmm, we'll maybe they can do that, but i don't know. Even though it annoys me, it's a question of degrees. At what point does a grunt, or an exhalation, become a scream? Are they gonna put a decible meter on it? Will they also stop the men from grunting? I don't know if the Tennis Association can do anything about it. So many do it.

Re: US Open Thread (Tennis)
So Sharapova goes down to Oudin from the US, the same 17 yr old that beat Dementieva. Good for her, it was a tough match.
-
Re: US Open Thread (Tennis)
Roddick gone!
First of the top 16 to be out, Verdasco Haas was a classic.
-
Re: US Open Thread (Tennis)
I'm in the anti-excessive grunting camp. Does my nut in. Some of them just sound ridiculous.

Re: US Open Thread (Tennis)
Murray looked shit hot last night
know it was only dent but still even the likes of fed and rafa would struggle against the murray that turned up last night.
Looking forward to hopefully a murray-nadal, fed-djok semi showdown
gotta believe its gonna be fed murray again

Nadal looked to be struggling yesterday, Almagro basically said take it i dont want to win, Murray v Del Potro for me is the match which will determine who will play Federer in the final.

Really? I don't think Del Po will make it to the final based on his fitness. He was tiring out pretty bad in some of the 2 out of 3 matches I saw him play. 3 out of 5 is a different game.

Re: US Open Thread (Tennis)
This Oudin girl is absolutely shocking the world right now! She already took out Dementieva and Sharapova. Now it looks like she gonna be taking out Petrova. Oudin got slapped around the first set against Petrova but now she's up 4-2 in the 3rd set.
-
Re: US Open Thread (Tennis)
Now it's official. Oudin just put Petrova away. I wonder if this is a one-hit wonder or if this is her breakthrough performance...
-
Re: US Open Thread (Tennis)
If I remember correctly I think she did pretty well at Wimb as well, I think she upset someone. I don't really watch allot of the womens tennis though so I might be wrong

Yeah, at Wimbledon, Oudin beat Jancovic, who was #1 in the world last year.

Re: US Open Thread (Tennis)
If Novak plays the way he's been playing Stepanek the first two sets, he might take the Open!!

I cant see it mate, Novak is so inconsistant these days, id take Federer,Murray and Del Potro to beat him this year.

I know what you mean. When he's playing well, he can beat anyone out there. He's so mentally sensitive sometimes. Talk about having the ability but not the head to take him over the top!

Re: US Open Thread (Tennis)
GOOD LORD Murray got sparked!! Cilic beat him 7-5, 6-2, 6-2. That doesn't look like a world #2 going down...

Same old Murray, imo needs a new coach, thats the 4 out of 4 grand slams where he has gone out hoping the other player makes errors rather than taking it to the opponent, ok Murray is a great mover and probably the best counter puncher on tour okay maybe that title goes to Nadal, but hes good. But hes offensive game is amazing to just go watch him against Nadal last year in the Semis at the open and again against Rafa in 07 in the Auzzie open. Just doesnt use it enough.
Murray hasnt made the progress this year i feel he should of, hes done ok in the master series and other smaller events. Even though hes number 2 lets not forget thats more to do with the fact Nadal has been injured and Djoko is not the player he was at this moment in time. But something needs to change that match today just reminded me of the match against Verdasco in the Auzzie open where he just was waiting for the other guy to make errors. New coach i reccomend.

Re: US Open Thread (Tennis)
I can not wait for Nadal-Monfils, my 2 favorite tennis players head to head. If only this was on clay.

If it was on clay mate it would be a massacre in Nadals favour. with it being on hardcourt it gives this match a more even balance.

Monfils is the most fun to watch on clay though. He has that sliding, reaching forehand down better then anyone in the game right now he's so rangy and athletic, he's most fun to watch on clay. The rallies in that match would be youtube material no doubt. I probably won't watch it live though with MADISON BUMGARNER debuting tonight, time to go post in the baseball thread.
