To be honest it comes down to who is the more reliable journalist Doug Fischer (who I personally can't stand) or Rick Reeno (who I quite enjoy)?

There's a reason that Fischer is a senior journalist at the Ring, whilst Reeno churns out rumour after rumour at BoxingScene. I mean ask yourself, which site do you go to for reliable news & insight, & which do you go to for the latest rumours in boxing (if not here)?

It's all a bit suspect, I mean their sources are Peterson's trainer/manager/some anonymous bloke. Lamont Peterson is referred to as a world champion for the love of God. I suspect this is a double-marketing ploy both for the PBF-JMM fight & to help sell Peterson as a viable opponent for Bradley.

There is nothing that Lamont Peterson has to give Mayweather troubles with, FLoyd is far faster and far more skilled with more power.

im thinking this is to drum up more interest because 2 of our British fighters have been over in Mayweathers camp James De gale and Steve Omeara and they were saying he was awesome in training and that no one in sparring could hit him and he was doing his long rounds then so perhaps this is bullshit.

Wasn't Roach going on about Mayweather not looking that great in sparring?

Actually, most trainers are like that and are saying strange comments here and here, Manny Stewart had has his bad moments with Andy Lee and Jermaine Taylor as well, we'll not mention the Mayweather as it is too easy and I remember James McGirt saying weird things as well. I have nothing, personally, about boosting your fighters here and here but I am clenching teeth when the arguments are getting private and personals.

This can be true. Some days you are just off and others are right on. BUT, there are so many reasons for the Peterson camp to fabricate or embellish. Either of the Petersons are nothing special so I'm not one to buy into it. But sometimes its easy to embellish when you do better than expected. Its seen in live time as a victory and as word of mouth goes on it turns into much more. Its very likely that Peterson held his own and then it was taken as a victory to he whooped PBF and then next week it'll be Lamont made PBF look stupid. If I held up against PBF even in sparring I guess I would like to overcredit myself especially if I had a championship bout ahead to market.

True, it reminds me of the stories about Amir Khan or Urbano Antillon beating up Pacquiao in sparring just because he didn't knock them out.

I've met Barry Hunter a couple times and one thing I can say is that he is a straight shooter. I'm sure DC amatuer boxing could confirm that. I'm not sure what that means, what "even" on the first day really means but if anyone is BSing I'm sure it's the king of bullshiters the Mayweathers.

That doesn't mean Peterson would beat Floyd, but the Petersons, especially Lamont, are both very skilled fighters. Taeth you are at it again. What does Paul Spadafora have that Lamont Peterson doesn't? What did Victor Ortiz have for De La Hoya? Lamont Peterson is a good fighter who will be a very good fighter, but even on an off day Mayweather is Mayweather and I have hard time seeing Peterson pull it off. Then again Cintron according to his manager went many rounds with Bernard Hopkins to a standstill. The point is what goes on behind closed doors is all hearsay, and aside from that hearsay, logic says Mayweather is out of Peterson's league.

True. We have 2 sides of the story. What it boils down to is who would you think would work over who in a sparring session? I'd wager my last dime on Mayweather working Peterson over. It makes way more sense than the other way around. But sometimes the sun shines on a dogs ass & maybe Peterson did get the better. It just doesn't sound that likely of a scenario.

Peterson came in out of shape, used the bigger gloves, fought about 40 minutes with little to no rest AND worked over the best boxer in the world who is in great shape & has been training for a huge fight against the #2 p4p ranked fighter?

Seems a little fishy to me. Alot fishy.

Peterson is no slouch, but if you were to put the 2 in the ring together I doubt Peterson would win 3 rounds, just like I doubt Floyd would brutally knock him out.....

Who knows what happened but I don't think this was some overall plan by Peterson's team to get his name out, seems like they wouldn't have said anything on their own to begin with but it got out to Doug Fischer from someone else and they either disagreed with the report or didn't want their guy to look bad.

I doubt he got punished or anything, he's a defensively responsible fighter. Its of course possible that he wasn't ready to do more than 8 four minute rounds.

If they gave out belts for sparring champions then this would probably mean something. Besides floyd is crap so what does beating him prove ??

I don't put to much into it.Just talking it up with Mayweather/JMM and Peterson/Bradley coming our way.The Peterson's seem to have been in permanent career idle mode forever....bop-bop-bop.

especially with 15 to 30 seconds break thats pretty rough, the big reason I think Mayweather wouldn't lose against Lamont is or are in this case.
1) Mayweather is near to or at fighting shape right now, whereas Lamont isn't.
2) Mayweather with the better stamina not to mention the fact he should be sharper would progressively do better and better as the fight went on.
3) Mayweather is the better fighter, and I can't see him having an off day this close to the fight, his body should be ready for any challenge right now.

I agree...this sounds to me like the infamous "Lebron got dunked on" video. I think there is a bit of truth to this though. The trainers are looking at different things, Floyd's trainer(s) is/are wanting to make sure he's blocking properly, moving well, and Lamont's trainer is making sure he lands punches and applies pressure...this could be just a case of different points of view.

I think Marquez will give Floyd a hard time, he's rarely if ever been totally outclassed.

The I-had-moments-when-sparring-Floyd belt. But i think Floyd was out of shape and spadafora was fresh in training when they sparred.

I'm guessing lamont had his moments and held his own. But sparring is sparring and it doesnt mean anything about a real fight. I'd like to see a video though, if not just for the trash talking.

I'd put money on it that it's total bollocks. I agree with what Lyle said funnily enough.

I have seen Peterson fight a few times and nothing I saw would lead me to believe he could work over Floyd........And Peterson was also out of shape and he still got the better of maywether...ha...I would tend to believe that Floyd worked peterson and now his camp is trying to spread a rumor to squash it......I am not a huge fan of Floyd but there is no way Peterson beats him.....
