I know everybody wont agree but I think Hopkins only legitimate losses were to Jones and Calzaghe.
My point is he is not an easy bloke to beat so which active boxers do you think could beat Hopkins if they fought in the near future.

I don't really think anyone at the moment beats Hopkins.
Jermain Taylor will always have a shot since he beat him twice before.
Tavoris Cloud...has the possibility of being seriously outboxed but could also lay Hopkins low with SERIOUS power.
Arthur Abraham, fights in a similar manner as Hopkins maybe better defensively and he has good power
Mikkel Kessler bigger and stronger than Hopkins and a good boxer to boot.
None of them as long as he sits on his pavlik win like he beat ali in his prime or some shit. Look i like the guy i do, but damn personal scorecards aside the dude has lost three of his last six yet he sits around like.....ah nevermind. And stop the calzaghe thing, he lost look it up. He should fight dawson or go away.
Anyone that can work a full 10-12 rounds and box halfway decent WILL beat B-Hop, sorry that's just the way it is.
I would even give Andre Ward, Andre Dirrell, and Paul Williams the shot to beat him.
Kelly Pavlik is not as great a fighter at 168 as he is at 160...shame it is that way but he hasn't been able to adap yet, I'm sure he'll find a way though.
Kessler, maybe Dawson too if he can keep Hopkins from spoiling his work.
Dawson to me seems to be there for the taking...he has fast hands and all but he's basically one handed.
I'd like to see Glen Johnson get another shot at him
Who'd beat Hopkins currently?
Floyd Mayweather jr & Paul Williams.
That's really the only two humans that I would think had a real shot...maybe Kessler...if Kess has truly worked out his deal after losing to Calzaghe.
That's a big "IF".
No one under heavyweight beats Hopkins. Come on folks Calzaghe didnt beat him, neither did Taylor. They got highly disputed split decisions they did not deserve. To the joker that put Mayweather could beat Nard?? ROFLMAO
What about Adamek if he goes up to 200? He wouldn't outbox him but he could KO him.
Joe beat him. He outworked him to the point he tried to fake getting hit low, if your winning a fight you don't do that do you? I thought it was really pathetic. He redeemed himself in the Pavlic fight for me though so I forgive the old bugger.
It was close but Joe won IMO
Being a Hopkins fan from day one...I hate to break it to you...but Hopkins' game has changed drastically to his detriment.
Calzaghe beat Hopkins...period.
Taylor did not.
While I loved the Tarver fight & the Pavlik fight...beating those two really dint do that much for me as it did for everyone else.
Tarver was, IWHO, pushing a trail of hype & fell to the same farce @ the hands of Hopkins that RJJ did with him.
As far as Pavlik goes...love the kid...always have & always will...but his defense is HORRIBLE & when you are in against a thinking fighter like Hopkins...you are fucked from start to finish.
The thing it takes to beat Hopkins is slickness, speed, & defense.
Personally I think that Hopkins has only been beaten CONVINCINGLY once & that was by Jones...unless you consider the Nard's 175lb fight against Mitchell.
Mayweather has all the tools to defeat Hopkins...the current workrate of Hopkins is incredible...but that's only because of his age & the match ups.
I would love to see Bernard in with someone like Floyd or Sugar Shane just to see how well his defense would hope up against the constant speed & reflexes of those two.
It'd please me to know end to be able to bump up my overly scrutinized love of the man...but being a die hard fan with blinders is something I've never been...even though he's a GOAT & FOAT for me from start to finish
Hey Kel!!!
Good to see/hear from ya again.
Another thing that I think should be factored in with Hopkins that most people don't is the fact that Hopkins makes EVERYBODY look bad.
No shit...I have never in my life seen a fighter that can totally take everyone out of their games.
Seriously...I almost walked out of the Hopkins/Wright fight due to the fact that it was almost unwatchable. I'm a huge fan of defensive boxers & tacticians...but Hopkins totally shut him down & he seemed confused to no end...that's Hopkins' game to no end.
He's the shit. No doubt!!!
I feel like the first Taylor fight was close but i give it to b-hop or maybe a draw, i wont argue with a taylor win though. Second fight i clearly have hopkins winning. I felt hopkins beat Calzaghe aswell. He landed the more effective shots and while calzaghe just slap his way around missing alot of the time.
Just dont see an immediate threat nearly as imposing as father time and the dreaded 'getting old overnight'.Size, volume and endurance may combine to make that happen,Kess,Adamek? But until the fat lady has taken the stage and tunes up her voice, I cannot help but see Hopkins exploit their lapses and take them into deep waters for win.
Thought for sure that a clash with Dawson was near, lean even more so to Hopkins now.Dawson seems to have taken a big step sideways rather than forward as far as career momentum.Said 40 yr old Tarver took him out of his game in rematch...can only imagine what Hopkins could achieve against him!
Wacko, welcome back.....now listen up! Bernard Hopkins doesn't fight 12 full rounds, Hopkins ROUTINELY gives away the first part of the fight which is why Jermain Taylor beat him TWICE.
Hopkins is old, he's got limits to his game that he didn't have before, and someone who is flawed but youthful enough to outwork Hopkins always has a chance. Kelly Pavlik just got outboxed plain and simple, I think Jermain Taylor had it closer and may have even won the rematch. Kelly Pavlik can be outboxed, not because he's not talented, but he allows himself to be outboxed.
The sad thing about this question is that we never got to see Bernard fight anyone really serious at 160 during his prime, he was green when Roy took him to school, the only big names he fought up until Jermain Taylor were Oscar De la Hoya and Felix Trinidad who started at much lighter weight classes.
Father time catches up with everyone, if he fights again it'll be ANOTHER year on his clock since Pavlik so hard to say. But if we're judging by his recent form, well like Wack said, no one looks good against him.
I like Kess, and as a JC fan it would serve my purpose for him to do well, but IMHO I think Hop would make him look bad. When it comes to beating great retreating fighters like Floyd and the Nard or even JC (though he rarely had many guys came forward to him) you need to close the distance better than with Kess' herky jerky footwork, and while Kess can counter well off the backfoot himself the Nard won't give him the opportunity.
I listened to a recent interview with Adamek, talkin about signing to fight with Hopkins at cruiser in January on On The Grind Boxing radio. Adamek would have a great shot at a KO IMO, but him aside, I don't really see anyone else. Maybe Williams could get up there in a couple of years and give him all kinds of problems, who knows how long Hopkins will be around for. One thing is for sure that if he sticks around, someone is gonna knock his whiskers off for real..... Although he's probably too clever to stay around for that day....
despite the fact hopkins pretty much lost the last 6rounds to calzaghe??
i had it 115-111 for joe and would probably see way to giving it as a 114-113. But no way did hopkins who only won 4rounds all fight deserved to get the decision. Joe was the only one instigating the clashes and hopkins was completely nackered by the end.
Do agree he got the rough end of some bad decisions against taylor though. It was a peak JT against hops who was shot at the weight and should of moved to 175 a year earlier. Still had the 1st fight a draw with hopkins winning the 2nd by a good 2-3 rounds!!
Chad Dawson
Roy Jones
Andre Ward
