Marquez vs Mayweather Delayed in Aus !!!!

This is fuckin bullshit!!! I have been waiting for this fight since it was made, i know alot of people havent really cared but to me this a super fight because Marquez could be the most skilled boxer to step in the ring with floyd.

So i go to order the PPV for the weekend and realise that it will be delayed telecast so i thought yeah i could deal with a couple of hours delay.....but instead its delayed by two fuckin days!!! Instead of us watching it on a sunday, we wont see it until tuesday and these cunts want us to pay for that.

And then to piss me off even more, i realise the reason why its not on is because of UFC 103...are you fuckin kiddin me? Boxing is way bigger in aus then MMA and they have chosen to put that shit on instead. Dont get me wrong, i like UFC...but if i have the choice its boxing all the way.

I have already emailed the pay tv company telling them that this is bullshit and that I am at this point an unsatisfied customer for the fact we pay $50 bucks for nearly every PPV except UFC which is $40 and they still expect us to pay $30 bucks to watch a delayed telecast. Even local events like bob mirovic vs john hoppoate was a PPV and it cost $50 bucks...those guys are just two aussie boxers that should be fighting a on a free to air card but no they charged us for that...i didnt order that anyway coz it was a shit card and i wasnt paying for it.

That is ridiculous and everything wrong with boxing today. Every sport seems to have sufficient coverage except boxing. From what I can gather coverage is pretty awful in the UK too. The Americans have it but even they must pay through the roof to watch the big fights.

I would 100% mirror your post if I was in a position to get PPV although I don't have that service at all.... But that is rubbish... PPV is not worth it considering the result will be splattered all over the news for 2 days before the fight... that is so dumb...

Does that mean that even some of the pubs and sports bars where they may have shown the fight might possibly not have access to the fight live as well???


It was always going to be online stream for me anyway, but i'm as hyped about this fight as you and would definitely have paid for it if I had the chance, and would have been irrate over it being delayed 2 days... Why the hell can't it even be delayed a few hours? Until the UFC garbage is over? I mean, the fights are usually on around 2 or 3 pm here, so a delay of even 6 or 7 hours would be fine..


It shows that the businessmen running the stations and making the decisions aren't in the same mind space as the people that actually pay for the damn service.. Wonder how it would have went if it was Pac Mayweather.. Or Tyson Holyfield? For all Mayweather's fights and undefeated record, this just shows how much Mayweathers big mouth has hurt him....

Sure his true fans will love him none the less, but what makes a real boxing superstar is a personality that appeals to ALL boxing fans, including fringe fans, and even to the extent of people OUTSIDE boxing..... That is what an ODLH or a Tyson can do... If Mayweather didn't have such an ego that he actually controlled his image and made himself into an appealing guy, we'd be getting this fight.. but at this point, it's seen by the business people that the only people who are interested in his fights or either

A) Because they are his diehard fans.
B) They hate him and want to see him get KO'd.
C) They are tuning in because of his opponent.

I remember they delayed a couple fights over here & showed them a week later (Taylor/ Joppy & a Juan Diaz fight) & they expected people to pay full price for that sh*t!

I never buy them anyway (just watch streams or DL's) but the sport has been in a bad way over here for years.

The coverage over here has been getting better; they seem to have all the major fights but never free, the last fight I remember on free T.V. was Jones/ Ruiz.

NZ has been cranking up though in the lead up to Tua/ Cameron!!!

We always get bullshit like this, its rediculous. We pay 50 bucks for mediocre fights when you guys in england or in america get them for free. Its fucked, being a boxing fan in australia just drains your wallet.

To be fair boys since the collapse of setanta ive had to make do with internet streams for the last 2-3 months.

Waking up at 2am on a sunday morning to watch bradley-campbell, cotto-clottey, froch-taylor etc has become the norm for me.

Best advice i can give you is do not rely on free internet streams such as justin, sopcast etc as 50% the time you will be wasting your time.

Sign up for one of those pay monthly stream sites they always deliver the goods and guarantee you your own stream!!

I just rang the bastards at Foxtel and they tell me it's Main Event who make the programming decisions. So I go to the Main Event website only to find you can only email, no phone number. They have their address there but no number. I sent an email asking for the event to be shown live but i guess it wont be answered till well after the fight. Any way there is a ph number for the address of the Main Event PTY Limited (5 Thomas Holt Drive North Ryde NSW 2113) it says in Telstra it's UK TV and is 0298136700 - Call them and tell them you are unhappy, hope its the right company. Well it's all I can do I guess. Bastards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is the reply from Main Event.

Dear Steven,
Due to technical reasons, the Main Event Channel can only show one Pay Per View event per day. In this instance Main Event has a previously scheduled event on Sunday, October 20 (UFC 103), so is unable to broadcast the Mayweather v Marquez fight which has been scheduled at the same time in the USA .
Main Event is only one channel and there are no other options to broadcast pay-per-view boxing on another channel. It is unfortunately current limitation of the service.
Knowing fight fans will still want to see the fight, Main Event will broadcast delayed coverage of the Mayweather v Marquez Event on Tuesday the 22nd, Wednesday the 23rd and Saturday the 26th. And as the fight will be on-delay, Foxtel, Austar and Optus are offering this fight at a reduced price – please check with your service provider.

Thanks for the reply, I actually didn't expect it. Ok despite the typo saying the event (UFC 103) was already booked for October 20, I presume you mean September 20 the actual date of the event. So are you saying that the UFC event (UFC 103) was booked before the boxing event Maywether Jr V Marquez and could not be changed due to the UFC 103 booking being made first? And if so why can't these things be changed? Would it not be possible to show the UFC first then the Boxing say 1 or 2 hours delayed instead of days later? Or is this the technical reason you refer to?
