A Night of Fights at My Gym
These from last night. We had 8 scheduled bouts. I fought the main event. There is a back story to my opponent but not really wanting to get into that. He had some serious power I was afraid of. KO'd most of his wins, and last one was a 15 sec KO down in the states...
Random pics, start to finish.

He's being counted again after another KD, followed by another doc check: They should have prob. stopped it but ref was from his gym.

One or 2 more KD's, not even sure wil have to wait for vid, then he called the fight.

Some family, friend pics afterwards as well as some teachers who come to all my fights...Then like a boxinbg nerd right home to catch the Mayweather/Marquez fight on a shitty ass cheapo free link.

Thanks Andre.
Dunno, my coach don't release my good fights, only my shitty ones haha. This wasn't shitty, but maybe if I can get a good copy. Usually takes a week or so as he moves slow.
Naw that's not my mom and dad. Those are teachers of mine. The other pic with all the people in it is family. My mom ain't around. My gram is the one with the glasses. She's kinda like my mom more then anyone. ;)

YB has about a foot of height on him though. Plus he probably hits harder and has a better chin... :p
I think Molitor will still go on to have a respectable career, my expectations of him have just been brought down to earth following the Caballero and Ruiz fights. He's still got a ton of skill, but he also has some rather glaring deficiencies.

Well I reckon the pictures are photoshopped.
That or YB is probably just the towel boy there at the loca gym and snuck around taking these pics. ;D

Well, unless YB is some creepy middle age guy who stalks a teenage boxer and video tapes his fights, I can vouch that I have in fact seen footage of him.

hahahahaaa
Meh, I'm so fucken disappointed in Molitor. I really thought he had more game. I hope I'm wrong, but yea, he'll never be an elite like I thought and hoped.

Re: A Night of Fights at My Gym
Wow u Canadians give up easily... While I dont think Molitor will be p4p I do think he will b champ again and I also think he will dethrone an already standing champ.

You sound like Lyle... :p
It has nothing to do with giving up, I'd cheer for Molitor if he was 5 - 15 and from Armenia because I like his style and his personality. However, I think our expectations have been tempered as a result of his recent performances. I honestly used to think that he had the slick boxing skills to one day be considered among boxing's elite (as high as the bottom of some p4p lists even), I no longer believe that to be the case. I wouldn't be surprised to see him become a belt holder again, but I don't think he'll ever unify or be considered a strong titlist, he just has too many deficiencies in his game. Some of those deficiencies may be able to be improved in training and with experience, but some cannot. That's not giving up, it's being realistic.

Re: A Night of Fights at My Gym
Some pics from a road trip for boxing, to Bala ON. This was in the Muskokas. Pretty cool place. People are sick rich here. One of the most expensive places in Canada, maybe even the Earth to live. But anyway, a bit about the road and a few of the people I travel with most.
The road is a tiring thing for us. We only drive anywhere we go, often long ditances for fights. These guys below and me have seen the most miles together.
This was the night we got in, and we're damn tired:

Next day some swimming and bridge diving, then back on the road home...

You become pretty close to people when you train with them. When you spar with them. If they give you a tough go, leave you with some lumps and a bit embarassed, you thank them for a good session. For this is where you learn.
But when you hit the road, it goes a step further, and the bonds get closer, and you become friends. I didn't fight on this card as scheduled, as had an injury, but it was cool to be there with and for them.
And that is a bit of who and what we are.

Re: A Night of Fights at My Gym
Well, picked up a fight this weekend!
Was unsure about if I should take it our not, so close to a major championship which is next weekend. But to hell with it, going for it! Guy I'm fighting has lots more fights, and is 2 years older, but we are similar in weight class so should be a good fight! It is only a 4 hr. drive there too, so helped make my decision. I don't travel well in cars...and anything more practically cripples me.
There is some doubt about my Ontario Open Championship. As in, if I'll even get matched up properly. It is truly hard to find people in my age and class in these parts for these championships even at the highest levels. What might end up happening and it is really looking that way, is I will automatically be heading to nationals. Just given a bye and deemed champ this year for Open Class for Ontario in my division. But I'd rather have to fight for it.
Will find out in 2 days for sure.

Re: A Night of Fights at My Gym
Just got home, so uber tired.
My fight was against a recent and older category Ontario Champion, and tall fighter much like me. Was a total counter fighter, as also I am...but I changed my game plan quickly and became the aggressor forward fighting and taking it to him as someone had to or we wouldabeen there waiting each other out the whole damn fight. Was a fairly close match but yet went to a split decision. Others say I outscored him prob 15-7 or so. WHenall issaidand done, w/e...I got the win.
But not one of my best performances imo. I was hurt going in with a lower back injury and couldn't explode into the type of combos I was hoping for. Dunno, will really have to see the fight myself when it comes out to get a better grasp of it. But yea, a win is a win.

Re: A Night of Fights at My Gym
Already packing and getting ready for trip to open Championships. Looking forward to it, 5 day road trip, atleast. Hope I get some fights! Is looking pretty good that I'll be fighting for national championship folks, so wish me luck!
We might be scheduling another home show nov. 28th. to which I'll get the main event again. But am 95% positive am going to sit this one out. Really need a break from training and time to heal this back injury and let the treatments work. I say that now hahahaa, but we'll see.

Re: A Night of Fights at My Gym
Ok decided to make this my blog about boxing stuffs. Kinda like the 'things that irritate you' only regaridng boxing and what is going on with me. Place to vent, say the occasional thing I want to just type out or w/e...
So yea.
Well, ya, made it to nationals. That is end of Feb. We were hoping last time I posted in this to have a show on the 28th. It was not enough time.
I have a scheduled match for Dec. 5th, but as of today, it looks like I will have to call it off. I've had a recurring lower back prob. that has flarred up and it hasn't allowed me to train as I need to. As I should be. Been a real fucking hindrance in everything I do. It hasn't gotten any better with trying various things, but only worse. As I learn and build my skills, the more torquing I do when learning, the more my back fucks up. And right now it is totally fucked. So Im sorta not happy about that.
Anyway, am trying ot get it right. Rest. Seeing a physiotherapist. A sports doc. But it isn't easy, as each day I don't train, or miss a sparr, or some such thing I feel I am losing out. A mind thing, I know. SO I need to get that in check.
My 2nd last opponent joined our gym today. He drunked called me about 2 weeks after our fight and said he wanted a rematch and other stuffs a while back. It was awkward. I spoke with him once since and we had a really good talk. And he decided to travel the distance to come train with me and us (just this week, we sparred today)...so I spose he is over the beating, and found the humility to realize we are the place to be. And it made me feel pretty good too. And he is right. We are. His gym, well, that was my first, and it is a mess. Some sick in the head people running it with big egos and little dicks and that is the best way I can describe it. And these are adults...guys in their 40-'s and 50's. He was their last good fighter, and now he is gone long after me, and hopefully they are soon too. I suspect they'll be closing soon. Everyone else is now with us. He was there more then a year before I ever started boxing and we began together, and he was light years ahead of me. It was a pretty big humble pill for him to swallow, coming here.
I gained a lot of respect for him.

Re: A Night of Fights at My Gym
Cool pics man, congrats on making Nationals.

Re: A Night of Fights at My Gym
So my back might be really fukked. :(
I`ve been thru a bunch of testing, a 2 hr consult with a sports injury specialist /therapist, and then a 3 day process of trying various light exercises to gage my pain reactions to them. Am now being sent for a MRI or Catscan or whatever to further look for potential disc probs and he thinks it is a high possibility. lower lumbar. That I may have had it for a while but have just been fighting thru the pain, which basically I have...for almost 2 years. i`ve never been pain free.
I really hope this isn`t the case, cuz it will likely mean surgery. It may even be an end to boxing for me. I don`t really know. I just know I am fighting this national championship one way or another. And whatever happens after that happens.
If it comes down to it, and for some reason I can`t fight any more, Ill ofc be disappointed. But I wont be devastated. I have never thought of this as a career goal. i`ve had lots of people tell me i have everything it takes to be a pro, and a good one, but I honestly have no urge for that. I`ve always just wanted to go to the olympics, the highest level of amateur, and then persue a career in medicine. My desire to go into medicine is far stronger then my desire to be a pro boxer.
So yea this has been a shitty last little bit for me. I guess I will find out more after I get the results back from the tests. I go next week for them.
-
Re: A Night of Fights at My Gym
Got good news today, but still have to go for the MRI. Finally making some headway on the back pain and been told by him after latest consult my reactions were good, and not that of a herniation. What he has been guaging in me is leg weakness and likely other things. I had quite a bit of weakness in my left leg in comparison to my right. This was the thing that most troubled him. But it seems to have corrected itself some and likely will more as we continue treatments.
I've had this recurring pain and injury for more then 2 years and it forever flares up. Haven't been or fought pain free for a long time.
This is also the longest I've ever gone without working out. Without doing anything. It is something I struggle with, maybe much like a person with an eating disorder or something. It is hard to get my head around the feeling I am losing out when not training, or stunting my growth in the sport somehow. But I know in a practical sense this isn't true. That the body requires the rest, and forever training and fighting when injured if anything may be holding me back some. It's something I am comin to terms with, tryin to better understand.
I think I am on the right path tho. Won't be strapping on for even sparring or anything until he says I can, and will do as told for a change and not cheat a workout here and there as I often do. It's all a learning process. Often of self.
-
Re: A Night of Fights at My Gym
I was told that I would never work in my field of stonemasonry again mate!
They wanted me to get three lower vetrabrae fused together and I chose not to and lived with insane pain for a number of years even could'nt stand and had to crawl at times. Then I got shown a number of other ways to manage it from the inside out and the underlying 3 or 4 causes and now I lift larger stuff than I ever had before and for the most part Im feeling great; (unless my mind slips backwards and i get down and feel like Im doing it all on my own) Then trouble arises, but I Correct it then and I get back on track. Doctors look at the wear and tear on my L5 and say "you are very lucky".
There are many ways to skin a cat mate.
-
Re: A Night of Fights at My Gym
Thanks Andre. Yea Im still working through the process of mental talk, allowing myself to not do anything training related in the name of healing. It isnt that easy but so far so good. I go again for another treatment tomorrow and the MRI. Feel I'm making progress.
So tonight I stayed home fighting the urge to go to the gym. Woot go me! Fought off the urge. My coach calls me 10 mins ago and tells me there is a CTV (Canadian Television News) crew waiting for me to get there. haha. They are doing a short documentary thingy on me and amateur boxing in Canada and were surprise visiting with cameras filming. I knew they were coming just not when and told them a while ago i'm there on such and such days and times without fail. lol o well...doing it starting Friday I guess.
-
Re: A Night of Fights at My Gym
So had the tv thingy tonight. A 2 hr long them filming and interviewing and threw my back out right in the middle. haha My coach not wanting to let on I was hurt bringing me to a back room to stretch it out all hush hush like to complete the interview...as it hurt so bad I almost puked.
Was told to go easy by my therapist for this but am coming to realize I don't really have that gear. Never have. Only have go hard.
ah well Fuck it. I was due for a party anyway, so hello vodka, goodbye pain.
-
Re: A Night of Fights at My Gym
my back is feeling a lot better. I missed my appointment today with my doc cuz simply forgot about it as was hungover on the vodka christmas partying thingymajigga. d'oh. That stuff is pretty good with cranberry juice actually. Hardly taste it. But yea, feeling better so all this rest might be paying off. Not used to doing nothing...
A friend of mine who works for the CTV (Canadian Television Network) wants to do a documentary thing on canadian amateur boxing and use me the center piece for both local and national coverage. They did one tv brief spot already. I've shared it with a few of you on facebook. Here it is on youtube. It was kinda embarassing actually, the attention I got on facebook and thru our club. Not sure I liked it a lot.
http://www.youtube.com/user/IamYoungblood
I've been putting it off, the documentary thing, because my back injury might be more serious then just strained muscles that I hoped. And that sux. But w/e...will do what I have to, and one way or another I will be fighting for our National Championship, if even am only at 60-70%. I've been fighting hurt for nearly 2 years now, so one more fight I don't see a problem with. Just kinda sux wont have the fights in for prep like I woulda hoped. hopefully can get well enough to hard spar leading up. If i can get well enough and have a good championship, then I'll prob do the docu thing.

Re: A Night of Fights at My Gym
Got a little over 1 week left, as flying out on the 21st and could be fighting as soon as the 23rd. Nationals are 23-28th.
I think I have come to the root of the problem and believe it is in technique. A bit of a flaw in the delivery of a few of my punches that I throw with a lot of force, and end up flat-footed when doing so and the over-extending is causing the repeated muscle pulls, strains, tears, w/e is going on. I just can't seem to stop hurting myself and even if I found the reason, there is not enough time to correct it completely and heal up to be at anything close to 100%. I think if I am 70% that will be good, considering it has affected my cardio training as well as ability to spar prolonged periods.
Am still confident I can win. Will have 2 fights max, 4 of us in my division so basically a semi-final then final for Canadian championship. We'll see.
