RING Ratings Update: Does Mayweather deserve his RING rankings?
I don't want this to turn into a "hatefest." I just want to know what people think. Does Floyd really pass Cotto in the welterweight rankings for beating Marquez? I personally think, in the weightclass, Cotto has done more and should be ranked ahead of Floyd.

No. It seems activity counts for nothing when you are flavour of the month.
Mayweather is a better fighter than Cotto, I think it should affect the p4p status of him for sure, but IMO divisional rankings should be based on competition, or else the p4p king would jump to the top of any new weightclass they entered, one thing however that I give Mayweather credit for is that he has been the linear welterweight champion before and Cotto hasn't. Mayweather undefeated as a welterweight, Cotto isn't.
Cotto got the shaft for sure in the divisional rankings, he has been more active at Welter... I bet my bottom dollar he dosent give a crap either, he shows up to fight and where the cards fall after that, so be it

Why do alot of Mayweather fans and Mayweather himself say "we all know he's better than this guy" or "we all know he'll beat this guy" but when Mosley or Margarito gets in his face, challenges him like a man he seems to avoid the confrontation?

Thing is if PAC beats Cotto, Mayweather is in another lose/lose situation in facing PAC. Either he loses to a smaller man OR he beats yet another smaller man. Marquez called out Floyd as well though, Floyd said this was a tune-up fight, Marquez took the money and agreed to fight on Floyd's terms. Let's be honest here there is very little Floyd could do to not have any excuses made for his victories save the two I mentioned. The fact that PAC is smaller would most definately become relevant after the fight, there is no way you could think that if PAC were to lose to Mayweather the weight issue would not be brought up. Same with Mosley you really think if PBF beats Mosley the age thing won't get brought up?Quote:

Maybe, but not as much. Mosley looked sharp in his last fight and has looked sharp in a few fights recently. For competitiveness sake, I'd rather see a PBF v. SSM fight than a Pac v. PBF fight.Quote:

Mayweather is a better outside boxer, not a better fighter. He has to prove he is the better fighter by who he fights inside the ring to get that label. Face Mosley, Margarito, Williams and get that recognition with actions not words.Quote:

yeah, but they would pay to see floyd up against a real challenge and fighting williams at 154 would be a hell of a challenge, although i doubt floyd would take it.

Cotto sits abreast the division to the people that count. Floyd deserves to be at the top of the rankings but in truth, beating a blown up Jr. Lightweight in the Welterweight division, nomatter how highly regarded should not dictate a spot at the top. Does his talent level say he belongs there? You'd be hardpressed to find someone to say no... But the fact remains that prior to fighting this last "welterweight" contest he was inactive for 2 years. He should not be ahead of Cotto.
