Mayweather's PPV numbers are looking good
Word on the street (Yahoo and ESPN) says that Mayweather Marquez sold close to ONE MILLION PPVs. Numbers will be final soon. That is a HUGE success for Floyd and HBO, especially with so many sports on TV and a UFC PPV going on. Boxing isn't anywhere NEAR dead, so MMA haters please shut your mouths. Honestly, I was thinking "ehhh, 500K" but this proves that Floyd is a PPV attraction. There is no more question. When the dude says he's "Money" he's got the proof. He basically sold this PPV off of his name. Marquez's following helped out but Pac-MArquez 2 only did like 500K. Mayweather is finally signed, sealed, and delivered as a true PPV superstar. I thought the PPV would do well because of the buzz amongst everyone but not that well. You haters can't say anything about the man. He's proved the money part, now he's just gotta fight and beat Pac or Mosley (I think both fights will happen honestly) to become the greatest fighter of our generation (if he isn't already).

WOW apparently looking more like 1.6 million, who said Pac was the bigger draw hahahahaha.
Bob Arum better not have a heart attack!!

WHAT?!?! Man, Mayweather probably made an extra 10 million off of the PPV upside percentage if that's the case. A 10 Million guarantee for Floyd meant that GBP probably only thought the fight would do 500-700K. Hell, Marquez probably doubled his 3.25 Mil check. Congrats to Mayweather, Marquez, HBO, GBP, and BOXING!!!

Re: Mayweather's PPV numbers are looking good
Wow, at the start people were doubting the fight would sell... Those are some great numbers. Now just imagine what a Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight would be worth :o

Yeah, and the Marquez fight was a fight that everyone thought he'd definitely win. Imagine when the media machine pushes Mayweather-PacMan. They'll annoint Manny as Floyd's biggest threat and the public will really perceive the fight as a tossup (personally, I think Floyd wins a decent UD). Manny is the perfect hero, Floyd is the PERFECT villian. Manny is the P4P #1, Floyd is the "real" P4P #1. Manny destroyed Floyd's opponents after Floyd just beat them. The styles will make for a good action fight because Manny is relentless but not big enough to cause Floyd to be way too defensive. Good action fight. The two biggest stars in the sport. Man, I've got a hard on just thinking about this fight. Arum!!! DON'T F*CK THIS UP PLEASE!!! I just see it will be a ruthless PPV percentage battle. If Arum thinks Manny deserves 50% after this, he's crazy. It should be 60-40 or 55-45 Mayweather and let's get this thing on. It will be a great fight and I think could do more than ODLH-Floyd. The best part about these Mayweather-Marquez numbers is that while GBP is celebrating a success, ODLH probably has a bruised ego that Floyd really was the money guy hahahaha.

As one of the two people who voted for the "One Million!" option in this thread, I'm happy to see my impression looks (thus far) accurate.
I had a feeling this fight would do well, based on the simple fact that people know who Floyd Mayweather is. People I've never talked to about boxing are talking about Floyd Mayweather. When he did 2.4 million buys with Oscar, everyone passed it off as Oscar being the big draw, and that's no doubt the case, but still -- that means 2.4 million people saw Floyd fight that night, and know who he is and what he's about.
Media experts who like to slag Floyd's marketability for not being an "action fighter" who gets bloodied up every time out, seem not to realize that there might well be a market for a confident, good-looking, super-gifted athlete who dominates his sport.
You know, like Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, David Beckham. Floyd has studied the playbooks of these people and is attempting to execute it. He's made some mistakes along the way but safe to say that if these PPV numbers are correct then he knows a hell of a lot more about what he's doing than people like Dan Rafael and Doug Fischer.

Re: Mayweather's PPV numbers are looking good
I am a huge Mayweather fan, but I would be skeptical, I mean MGM wasn't even full this weekend. It was pretty full, but I would guess up top there were hundreds of seats that weren't being used.

Yeah. Honestly, I don't really have a huge desire to wanna go to a Mayweather fight. But I know that when he fights, I'll throw up 60 for the HD feed anytime. Honestly, the post fight interview was worth it.
Max being a dick.
Floyd looking uncomfortable.
Shane tryna desperately get a fight still
B-Hop being loud and saying "Ali was the best to ever do it" to Floyd hahahaha.
The entourages holding everyone back when it got kinda rowdy.
TRIPLE H ALL OF A SUDDEN stepping in behind Floyd like he was ready to Pedigree someone hahahahahahahaha.
Floyd saying "Imma do the talking, cause you do too much talking" to Max.
This is the definition of must see TV.

Re: Mayweather's PPV numbers are looking good
Pacquiao will never be as popular to the general public as Mayweather because he doesn't speak English very well, is awkward, looks funny, is a nice guy who doesn't talk shit and is Asian. I can't think of one Asian male since Bruce Lee who is considered cool or even masculine in pop culture. Jackie Chan is popular but is seen more as a talented jester. Mayweather is what every kid wants to be at that moment. He's black, lives the hip hop lifestyle, is metrosexual, talks shit, has alot of money and loves to show it, is involved in drive by shootings. He's "gangstah". The only thing he doesn't seem to do is parade around with a bunch of fine ass bitches. I guess this is to project an image that he is still attainable to females. He's a very shrewd business man. Even if you hate him you still watch to see if he'll get knocked out and he makes sure that will never happen. In Australia we've got a guy who seems to have modelled the whole business side of his career on this guy while trying to be a very, very poor man's Roy Jones. His name's Anthony Mundine. I hate that cunt.

Re: Mayweather's PPV numbers are looking good
i've heard 1.6 million PPV buys on another forum. that's insane. i doubt it
-
Re: Mayweather's PPV numbers are looking good
so much for Pac being the bigger draw, IMO PPV numbers tell more bout the fight, than how fast the fight sells out, cause you have no idea how many of those seats are bought by the promotional company to begin with
-
Re: Mayweather's PPV numbers are looking good
i really gotta know if this a 100% true.
-
Re: Mayweather's PPV numbers are looking good
So does anyone have a link or source? I clicked on one of the links but it was a twitter one. Sure would like to know the numbers. If it's true good for boxing.
-
Re: Mayweather's PPV numbers are looking good
This would be an excellent thing for boxing but I have some doubts, I don’t know how much reliable are those sources, let wait until it will be officially announced… even then we can’t be sure this is truth.
-
Re: Mayweather's PPV numbers are looking good
No way this fight did a million buys.

Agreed. I will be very surprised if it did.

The story is probably not true. The link is dead and I can't see this estimated PPV numbers from happening.
My estimate runs around 500-600 buys. ;)

Re: Mayweather's PPV numbers are looking good
All I can say for sure from my experience is this is the first PPV boxing event ALL of my casual boxing fan friends bought since Hatton/PBF. It was weird having people bring up boxing to me saying things like "I hope pee pee mouth wins." or "What the hell was Mayweather's dad saying on 24/7"
I hope it did do that well, because it shows a growing interest in boxing and it actually created a few potential story lines the general public can grab on to. This story line going forward projects more interest into the Cotto/Pacquiao matchup and puts Mosley back into public attention.

this.
same deal with the friends on both buying it and talking about it. my friends are all young and think PBF is the shit. They are asking me questions too about pac and stuff. The questions are borderline retarded haha, but genuinely good for our sport as there seems to be a renewed interest.

My favorite question is "Are Martyweather and Pooquino in the same weight class?". I guess the answer is "yes they both fight at Medium Light Welterweight which is 144, if they even meet up the Diamond Belt will be on the line"
"What's the Diamond Belt?"
"God only knows"

hahaha. The one I usually get is "MERRYweather".
But everyone I know ordered the fight or watched it somewhere. Even the MMA fighters who train boxing at my gym were more interested in the boxing event than in the UFC event.
With that said, I figure Mayweather's fight did better numbers than everyone thought. And when all is said & done I think he'll have a very good argument for being a draw. I also feel his numbers could rival those of Pac/Cotto. But 1.6 seems a little high. I'm hoping it's true. Would love to see some people eat crow, but you know how some promotional companies operate.

I would love to see PAC/Cotto do equally as high numbers, I like it when boxing PPV's do well. Boxing has the potential to take back some marketshare big time in 2010.

Re: Mayweather's PPV numbers are looking good
I would like to see an official source to confirm the accuracy
If it did anywhere close to a million buys there will be a whole lot of guys eating crow, especially the ones that complained about Floyd ripping off the public by coming in at 146 or they feel ripped over this fight being a farce or Floyd is a draw in his own mind.
The most comical ones lately have been guys around here saying Floyd rips them off and this fight was BS etc.. But these seem to be the same people who like most of us Pander for fight links and free streams.
So its beyond my comprehension that someone who dosent buy fight tickets or cable subscription, PPV's can possibly be feeling ripped off in the 1st place. in reality you have invested $0
So if this is true apparently close to a million people were quite happy to see Mayweather perform;)
-
Re: Mayweather's PPV numbers are looking good
I have a quite a few Filipino acquaintances from work at at my son's school and surprisingly discovered they purchased the fight because they had never see Mayweather before and wanted to see him fight.

Re: Mayweather's PPV numbers are looking good
I don't know about that miles... boxing fans may have been skeptical about the weights etc but this is the first fight I've seen none boxing fans talking a lot about since hatton/pacman.
If Floyd-ODLH did 2.4 then it's not that I'm skeptical but to read some of your posts - it's as if Dana White has taken over half of the accounts on here.

Miles is ornery has been for over a year now, been lighting fires everywhere with a chip on his shoulders, so I just take him as a self loathing bitter human being. The nice respectful Miles that was here when most of us joined a few years ago, dosent really exist anymore:-\

Re: Mayweather's PPV numbers are looking good
Well there's maybe another place to discuss that. :)
But I agree 100% about the buys and why most will right it off as insane. With Marquez's huge mexican following and PBF being a considerable draw I can't see how it's not possible.
Like I said I'll remain skeptical (at the most) and in my opinion the only people I would have expected to say that it's downright impossible would be Mayweather haters and UFC fanboys.

Self loathing about what JT? Bitter about the recent boxing no doubt, but life in general not at all. ;D
And to say to the nice respectful miles doesn't exist is quite rude as well. I have always been here. People here know me much better than you know. I just don't fill it all filling Mayweather threads with hugs of the nut hug kind.
But if you want to descend into personal insults then bring it on, I don't think you want to go there though. ;)

Sorry Self-loathing was a poor choice, I was must have been thinking about Boozeboxer ;D But I stand by everything else now you say I dont know you and havent noticed 3+ years of posting? News flash stating someone isint the same as they used to is far from a personal insult.
Also I can give 2 shits less about mayweather hugs and kisses dude. most of your posts are littered with condascending talk toward people and their views. So where even I guess you spend your time rakieing on and minimizing Floyd Mayweather I shed light on how he excels in it and the picture that haters paint is far from reality. I always will say I think Floyd is a doosh outside the ring but he is damn near perfect in it. So you get all pissy with me and insult me by calling me a nuthugger which you drew 1st blood, now your whining about insults. So again all your feelings of getting ripped off are borne out of you and few who dont care for floyd fair enough no problem, BUT if the numbers are true and in fact did as many buys, than its quite obvious a million people disagree with you
Now your going to go there that I fill every thread with Mayweather?
Go ahead Miles put your money where mouth is dude, go find where I turn every thread into a Mayweather thread and its all hugs and kisses, Obviously the past few weeks leading upto a fight and the aftermath there are going to be threads and comments:rolleyes:
So go ahead champ and dig it all up man, prove it baby!!!

Well, to be honest I don't really know what you are talking about in your first paragraph.
Do I really go ahead and insult people as freely as you say I do? You now when it comes to boxing they often need calling on it...but most of my comments are on the other board complaining about bongo truck food sellers? Nobody that reads this knows about that. :-\
As for the challenge to bring up all your posts about Mayweather. Well, you can do that through your own post history. Count the number of Mayweather posts againsts the non Mayweather posts and it could be scary.
I don't care anyway. I just don't like my name being crawled out on the main forum. I don't take kindly to it. Next time I will take it further.

for such a schooled young man I am quite dissapointed you will ignore the point that People might have to eat a shit load of crow if 1 million or close is the number... You cant groan that something sucks and twist your opinion like you have the whole world on your side, just to have the numbers comeback and refute it.... NUMBERS DONT LIE

Nobody was happy with this Mayweather crap no matter how long you try to pretend that it was something meaningful.:vd:
JT, I like you as a poster. But you are indeed a true Mayweather nuthugger. ;)
So lets get this straight Miles, if Mayweather Marquez did around 1 million buys you will still claim NOBODY was happy with this quote unquote MAYWEATHER CRAP? You ever hear the expression the proof is in the pudding Miles? So you can be bitter all you want dude but it looks like quite a few signs are pointing to Mayweather/Marquez near or over 1million buys.

I don't care anyway. I just don't like my name being crawled out on the main forum. I don't take kindly to it. Next time I will take it further.
What are you going to do? You are the one who insulted me point blank by calling me a nuthugger when you responded to a post that didnt have your name on it, Didnt you? I didnt antagonize you, it was the other way around and now you cant deal with it:rolleyes:
