Mayweather's return strikes gold with 1 million PPV buys - USATODAY.com

Exactly double what I thought it would do. Hats off to Floyd. It's going to make the negotiations with Arum fun.
Right, it was all Marquez fans buying it
So by that logic, Marquez is a bigger star than Pacquiao or Hatton. Pull the other one. People said from day one that this promotion was all on Mayweather & that when it failed it would prove he had no pulling power. The fact is he does.
People on here spend too much time thinking about Mayweather as 'fight fans' rather than a casual sports fan. Mayweather brings in different demographics that no other fighter is really bringing right now, hence why he does a mil basically off his name.
It is great news to be honest. I don't like the guy but you have to give credit where credit is due. I think Floyd is going to be fighting big names these next few fights and if he gets beat it will be in front of a big audience. Kudos to Floyd. He is growing on me a bit
Wonder what Dana White will say when he realizes that Mayweather vs. "what's his name" beat his ufc event
You can expect Mayweather Manny to have a projected number of at least two million buys. That's a $110 million gross just from the PPV, heading towards $150 with the site fee, gate, worldwide TV, sponsorship etc. No way that fight doesn't get made.
Even 50% of the final net number is enough to keep Mayweather in comfortable retirement for two or three years. :)
Over at the scene of boxing (Not as good as Saddo's) it's reported on HBO that Mayweather Marquez did 1 million buys.

I'm sure it's okay...and there will be other links soon.
Awesome news! Thanks for posting it. :)
Congratulations to boxing these are good numbers. I thought it would be around 400- 600 thousand buys. Looks like he will have tremendous leverage against Pac.
Not the 1.6 million buys that rumors said the fight did, but still good for boxing.
So I guess this proves that Money Mayweather is the new cash cow of the sport and not Pacman. It can't be argued anymore. He was fighting a Mexican fighter that the general public never heard of and did 1 mil buys in a recession.
Then Mayweather should fight Mosley or any other true welterweight out there since he's the cash cow and will generate money anyway right? Mayweather can't be using the excuse "that guy is not the draw, I'm not fighting him" since he is the draw now.
Is that smiley an indication of what you want to do to Manny's asshole? ;)
I've said before Mayweather brings in different demographics, certainly young people, & particularly in the black community. He is an idol among young black kids even over here, some of whom who have no interest in boxing. Amazingly they buy PPVs even if they don't all flood boxing forums going on about how Mayweather would beat Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Pernell Whitaker & Muhammad Ali at the same time
It's actually official here's the ESPN commentry on it and a Mayweather Brian Kenny Interview! Floyd appears to be a changed man! I am now officially a huge Floyd fan.
People will hate on him for beating up the smaller Marquez but Marquez will be grateful it the most exposue and money he has ever recieved!
Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Juan Manuel Marquez fight generated 1 million pay-per-view buys - ESPN
i watched the floyd interview earlier on espn. he has changed quite a bit.
I highly doubt Mosley-Mayweather would do anything close to 1 million buys. I'd say no more than 600k buys.
Maywether-Cotto I could see 1.25mil if Cotto wins a non-controversial
decision or KO. I'd say Pacman-Floyd could do close to 2mil buys. Enough money for Floyd to piss away yet again...
Good numbers are good for boxing.Glad to see it.Mayweather did a good job at getting himself in the public eye,the constant AT&T commercials and all the headlines, airtime with WWE.
They had a segment on Versus last night after the fights and 'recaped' the fight.Marquez choice of beverage :-X and Mayweather grabbing the mic and going off got more airtime than the actual match
That's exactly what he was like when he came to London & pretty much what all who've met him off-camera have said. I like the fact he basically said his mum told him off & he has rightfully apologized to Emmanuel Steward.
As a side note, the PPV figure does not include the cinema numbers. The thing I enjoy most about this is the thought of Dana White & Bob Arum being genuinely miserable for a few days.
Mayweather-Marquez gets 1 million PPV sales - Boxing - Yahoo! Sports
1 million!?!
Just as I predicted. ;D
Marquez was the only reason I layed down 50 bucks. But that was one of the better PPV cards on whole in a long while.
Has HBO stopped the replays of the PPV main events?
This is fabulous for the sport.
It's funny but some Die hard Mayweather haters on other forums are claiming the sales are down to Marquez. it's actually disapointing that fight fans can be that pathetic.
I mean Like him or hate him Mayweather is clearly one of if not the biggest draw in boxing He probably does a million plus fighting anyone now provided he has 24/7 before hand!
I mean the Moseley fight could be incredibly huge with all the build up throughout the years and in my opinion would be second only to A pacman Showdown! Pacman, Mayweather wow that would be a special fight and sales may break all records.
Spot on!! I am no Mayweather lover by any stretch, but I heard he was going to be on SSN so got down there.
I missed him going in but when he came out he had time for everybody! I got a pic with him and he signed a knackered old glove I had in my car!
The 'money' persona is just that, a persona! I'm glad he seems to have reigned it in a bit though, because from meeting him in the flesh he seems a v nice guy!
Compare that to the Hatton-Pac gig at the Trafford Centre, I was there for that too.
Back-stage as they came off, Pac signed a few autographs for his phillipino fans but no more than 5 mins! Hatton just walked past us all and straight up the stairs:mad:
One lad in a motorised wheelchair had been at the front of the barrier for over an hour and a half, and didn't even see the 2 guys on the stage because he had a glove he wanted signed by Ricky. Me and my mate had clocked him whilst they were on stage and he just sat and waited.
Whilst the dust was settling onstage (HBO/Sky etc interviews) we made our way round to the autograph area where this lad had sat for god knows how long!
Hatton walked towards and then past us and all the while this lad was shouting RICKY!!! but he didn't give 2 fucks!!!
Some 'man of the people!'
Well I've thought for a long time that any guy who has to constantly keep reminding us that he is "humble" all the f'ing time, can't really be that humble.
The 24/7 with Floyd showed that he wasn't that humble - "I've got 33k people coming to see me and he only has 33" - "Floyd, knock me out? When was the last time he knocked someone out?"
He's just as cocky as Floyd but also humours himself to give the impression that he's humble.
Ricky Hatton has really gone down in my estimation with his recent bitter and delusional ramblings. That video where he is talking about how he was winning the 2nd round of the Pac fight by a mile??
WTF:confused: Who brags about a round in which they were nearly put into a coma?
