What strategies that have boxers taken away from their normal style that failed miserably and back fired?
De la Hoya vs Vargas for the first part of the fight...it was I think his first fight with Floyd Sr. as his trainer...it took him a while to be able to use that style and be effective.
Chris Byrd vs Wladimir Klitschko in the rematch...how's a defensive fighter with no power going to pressure somebody like Wlad???
Wladimir vs Sanders, he was all too eager to give up his height and reach and stand and trade early on. If Wlad fought Sanders in the style that Wlad has right now it would be a walk in the park.
Ricky Hatton trying to become Floyd Mayweather, that didn't work too well.
Ray Leonard vs Roberto Duran I....you don't try and tough it out with a rowdy ass slugger like Duran
One that sticks is Holyfield during the 2nd round of 1st fight w/Bowe.Things got gritty, sat down and tried to play power game the rest of the way.....Conn slugging with Louis with a win right around the corner.
Meldrick Taylor's whole career....he had the fastest hands, he could have been a very slick boxer and been very successful, but nope, his pride got the best of him
Making my predictions before everyone else and Waterloo
Gatti trying to outbox Mayweather.
Hearns going toe to toe with Hagler
Holyfield going into the first Lewis fight and his ONLY plan was to KO him in the 3rd. That´s faith!
Tommy Morrison boxing Lennox cautiosly and going for broke against Mercer. Had he done it the other way around, he might well have won both fights
Peter McNeely's "cocoon of horrors" against Tyson.
David Haye moving up to HW
- Leslie lubaczewski trusting and believing that Trainer Monkey's strategies (with no experience whatsoever in boxing) was the man of the situation and trusting him repeatedly 4 consecutive times, each one ending by a brutal k.o and a brutal stoppage.
- Tyson simply going forward on Lewis with the sole intention of killing him when he should have had a much better plan for such a beast.
- Hatton laughing at the drills that Roach did teach to Manny was quite funny too but that's more fate irony than strategy backfiring though.
Marvin Hagler trying to box Right Handed against Ray Leonard ;D
I can't tell if you're making what could well end up being a legitimate prediction (in a thread not for predictions) or just being a little dumb.
He hasn't done anything yet at the weight, but since moving up to heavyweight he has had 3 of the 4 belt holders offer him fights.
Say what you want about being scared etc but having those 3 offers on the table can hardly be called back firing?...
It's not a good policy to get title shots only to back out of them.....he's never going to win a title if he never actually fights for one which although he has been offered 3-4 title fights he has yet to fight a single one
Not disputing that... it's just unrelated to the thread.
More spam from an infatuated hater who can't keep their mouth shut about Haye.
Roy Jones Jr not jumping all over JC after the first round KD. He allowed Calzaghe to settle and get confident again.
Surprised nobody has mentioned Hatton using his head as a shield against Pacquaio!
Herol Graham, although used brilliant tactics against Julian Jackson, should never have under estimated Jacksons one punch KO power.
My all time favorite... Rahman's "hold your arms straight out" defense against Lennox Lewis. :lolhaha:
Leslie is Trainer Monkey's wife, she has 4 professional bout, 4 defeats by knock out, 3 in the first round, one in the second. Trainer Monkey is his trainer as well but has no real experience in boxing whatsoever, never ran her corner (though he's her trainer) so far and ... never got her to practice in a real ring, in their basement on the floor or on the lawn outside.
As for Zelenoff... he decided to get a career at MMA now, guess it's better for the boxing world;)
Well, that's taking a page out of the Leftylee book almost...WTF is TM thinking sending his wife in there to get beaten up?
Mate people can say what ever the hell they like, I'm not a 'fan' of any boxer.
It just concerns me when I see people talking about Haye all the time... at any given chance...
I just have to wonder why these people are so obsessed with the guy that they talk about him in threads that have nothing to do with him.
All just seems like a bit of an infatuation. Shit at least Leftylee came out of the closet about it instead of staying in narnia... ;)
TM is not a bad person at heart but his ego is absolutely fucked up and he has no problems to lie or to present the truth in a funny way in order to look like he's on the stage; His wife won the toughman contest, he so thought that she was a pure fighting machine... guess what happened when she met some real boxers.... mangled. Plus, TM thinks that if you get in the ring and get injured that's your problem as you did pay for the ticket, there is even a topic about it floating in the archives: http://www.saddoboxing.com/boxingfor...ssa-rivas.html
Read the whole, it is creepy and pathetic.
If you want, I can also post you my last correspondence with Paul, as he insulted me galore and dared to say that he was the best trainer in V.A and that I don't know shit about boxing, I am feeling a bit vindicative and feel the urge to help him get a reality check. In this correspondance, he states that the Mayweather did plot to get his cornerman for his wife against Rivas to get his passport stolen, that the judges had their money on Rivas, hehnce why they were complaisant toward her and that the whole Trinidad was hoaxing against them too. not bad, isn't it?
John Ruiz deciding to get into the ring with Tua.;D
Wow this is a hard one to tackle. So many fights, so many mistakes. Anyone see the Giavanni Segura/Cesar Canchila fight at 108 a couple months ago?
Segura come out guns blazing in the first round, and unloaded all the ammo in the 2nd he has left. Then is was the most pathetic thing you ever seen. This guy who decked his opponent twice in the first 6 minutes is gasping for air trying to make it to the final bell. Canchila weathered the early storm and took the decision.
Segura sparked him in the rematch in the 4th a couple months later..
the daddy of all f*ck ups as gotta be hatton against manny
spent months telling us all about this new found style that included a solid jab, better defence etc, yet the whole time not one single person taught him how to counteract mannys main attribute which is that diving left hand which he counters with every time a fighter trys to lunge in.
ended up getting nailed with it on at least a dozen occasions and was laid flat out by the time the bell was rung for the 2nd!!
Jermain Taylor seemingly NEVER learning from past experiences vs Bernard Hopkins X2 (though he won both, in real life and IMO), Kelly Pavlik x 2 (though a case could be made about the rematch), and recently vs Carl Froch.....can someone either get JT to do roadwork, or stop partying, or just go back to utilizing that jab that used to be so good?!?!?! FFS he never should have lost to Froch OR the rematch to Pavlik.
If JT stuck and moved the way he was brought up to do then he would still be unbeaten, but time and time again he loads up on the overhand right and he never lays anyone out with it....his career post Hopkins is MOST disappointing
The main one that came to mind for me was Danny Williams v Matt Skelton where he seemed to think that getting as big as he could would give him a power advantage.
Danny comes in at 16lbs heavier than he's ever fought, and was so slow he could barely catch Skelton to hit him, and Skelton's plan of boxing Williams and staying out of trouble works a dream, and is a nightmare for spectators. I know, I nearly cut my wrists late in the fight, but the edge of the plastic seats at the Millenium stadium aren't sharp enough.
Whoever that boxer that fought Arce was that spent 90% of the fight covering up.
Mayorga leaving himself open to body shots from Trinidad that eventually took their toll.
Forrest vs. Mayorga. If anything, Forrest should have stuck with his original gameplan.
Byrd thinking he could pull a combination of Sanders and Brewster on Klitschko.
Judah thinking he could show how tough he was and get up from the canvas immediately.
De La Hoya not sticking that jab in Mayweather's face. "The jab wasn't working for me." It can only work when you use it.
Hatton fighting outside England.
