Tony Soprano for me from the show Sopranos
I've always got a soft spot for Pete and Dud. Alan Partridge would be up there too. And Rick, Neil and Vivian from The Young Ones (I'm not so keen on Mike). I like my comedy characters.
Is this long running characters or just those who made an impact eg not necessarily the lead character in a show
I would agree re Del Boy though Only Fools also gave us the legendary characters of Trigger and Boycie, both contenders too if you ask me.
One guy that always got me was Reg Holdsworth in Coronation Street , pure comedy gold in every scene he was in. This is the only time I have ever watched a British soap and he was the reason I started watching it - I stopped when he left.
Keith from The Office was also brilliant - though his total screen time in the whole two series probably came to no more than 5 minutes.
I find it difficult to choose an out and out winner - Alan Partridge belongs with comedy characters so wouldn't count here, though he did have his own series I guess. But him aside it's tough...
Others that spring to mind - JR, BA Baracus, David Addison, Rigsby....!
and John Locke ;)
just found the results of the Channel 4 show that went out a year or so back for the top 100 all time
Rick is at number 14 !

It's got to be Homer Simpson at #1 for me. Although honourable mentions to Gene Hunt, Jimmy McNulty, Stringer Bell, Omar Little & Basil Fawlty who all come pretty damn close
Gotta give props to...
Jack Bauer
Daisy Duke :lickish:
Dr Greg House MD
Toby Ziegler
Michael Scofield
Angel
Buffy Summers
Brooke Davis :lickish:
Richie from 'Bottom' :)
Al Bundy is my favourite, then Homer Simpson and Edmund Blackadder.
Honary mention to Arnold Rimmer.

Cliff Clavin, I guess, has to be somebody off of Cheers even though I haven't seen it in years
Crede from the American Office even though I don't watch that show anymore
I don't know, there are a lot more
TM's character on Robot Chicken.
Al Bundy is a great choice. I really like Jax and Opie from Sons of Anarchy, both are completely badass and I would trade my life for either of theirs in a split second flat.
Also Peg Bundy is on that show and even at 73 years old she is super hot.
