Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
I was looking at the vitals:
He enjoys a 6 in reach and 3in height advantage over Abraham and IMO will probably come in alot fuller after rehydration.
I find it hard to believe that Taylor just lost it, though some say he never had it. I believe he is somewere in the middle, I think he put on a clinic against Froch and just faded, taking nothing away from Froch, it was a courageous victory. Taylor is still a pretty good puncher with alot of athleticism he's had Pavlik and Froch down and in serious trouble before
I am a huge fan of AA but he is a bit of a wildcard because he is seasoned and posesses quite of a repoitre, but hasnt fought an elite fighter yet. I have a feeling Taylor goes to the jab more, relies on experience and exploits AA propensity to layback and fight in spurts, I think AA is a good 1st opponent for Taylor seeing his lack of stamina snatched defeat out of the jaws of victory against Froch and almost cost him against Hop and Winky. AA wont force the action or outwork Jermain but will cover up, counter punch and on occassion explode out of his shell in flurries. The only thing that worries me is given the history of BS calls in Germany Taylor will have to KO Abraham to get the win... Tall order
I want Jermain to win because of his hard luck of late, he's a nice guy and I'd like to see him do well, but I wouldnt be suprised if AA sparked him out either:-\

"Taylor has been training in Texas with former Heavyweight champ George Foreman and has been working specifically on not gassing out Taylor is confident that he will come out the victor next saturday in the opener of The Super Six Tournament against a big puncher Arthur Abraham"
Also didnt know he is working with George Foreman either. Dont know what it does for him

Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
Really difficult one, Taylor holds all the physical advantages. But his mental problems and add to that he is fighting in Germany, I see Abraham stopping him late.
-
Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
I want Taylor to win this one, but I think AA will win a verdict
-
Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
I think Taylor has a decent shot, but he MUST learn to try and get through the final rounds here. He is great at building it up over the first several rounds, but he seems to implode on himself. He must clinch and buy time when in trouble which he might well find himself in on occasion...easier said than done though.
I think he can build up a points lead and get through it. But I am often wrong! ;D

Thats the thing, you can train your asss off and get your body in shape and tuned.. Just hard to correct problems between your ears if you know what I mean.. Jermain is going to either use his KO losses as a good lesson, or they will forever haunt him and fracture him when the going gets tough..
Taylor has all the skill and physical gifts to run the table in this tournament, but sadly is mental game might derail his chances

Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
Taylor starts fights at a high pace usually winning the first half more or less easily and then he slows down...and that is perfect for AA who likes to let his opponent punch out willingly giving the first rnds away and then starting to take his opponent apart rnd by rnd...but you all know that...
I think if Taylor keeps his pace and cool he maybe can win this...but like you said this is a Sauerland event and winning this on points against the local favorite is nearly impossible(keep in mind its not whole Germany its just and always has been SAUERLAND)...but on the other hand I think AA will stop Taylor late in the fight anyway...

Quite glad you found this thread Mr. Kickass, nice to hear some insight from Abraham's backyard.. There will be a few exchanges since Taylor likes to respond when clipped, just not sure who will benefit more. I know AA was struggling to make 160 and Taylor could easily fight at 175.. The size difference is definetly apparent
-
Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
Abraham doesn't fight at a strong pace so Taylor shouldn't really have the excuse of gassing.
Clearly though Taylor is a weak finisher, coming off a bad KO loss, outside his comfort zone for the first time and facing an unbeaten fighter who is a strong finisher.
Abraham KO.

Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
The wildcard of the 6
Taylor is still a very good fighter and what with his heighth, reach and inevitable weight advantage on the night i genuinely see him stopping AA late on.
He cant take a decision, not in germany against their golden boy he`d have to win at least 8 rounds for a draw.
What he should and i expect he will do early doors is not allow abraham to dictate with his slow aggressive rythym instead getting his shots in before AA and forcing him to change his gameplan. By 5-6 AA will enjoy a close contested fight and will hurt jermain eventually if JT allows himself to be drawn into an all out war.
But eventually i see one of jermains sharp left/rights catching AA around 11 and stopping him before the fight ends!

Taylor maybe taller, but I think AA will be bulkier...and like you said AA had problems with 160 often fighting drained I hope we will see a more explosive AA now that he doesn't need to drain himself that much anymore...I think this will could be a very exciting fight and who knows...Taylor was able to floor Froch(I think the first fighter to do this)he may well do this to AA and who knows how AA will deal with that...

So true, AA can work more on attribute training and less on weight loss. Definetly will make for a sharper more polished King Arthur, thinking back at the 2nd Miranda fight which I believe was at 166 he looked like a beast with the extra 6 lbs.. Again I am a huge fan of AA and this could very well be his big arrival on the scene(At least in America) if he beats Taylor. Just find it hard to go against Taylor with all his talent and after his last dissapointment
-
Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
I think JT has a great chance because AA fights a bit like Hopkins in that he will give away a couple rounds before he gets going. Taylor will need to win rounds 1-4, stay close 5-9, and then win 1 round of 10-12 and he'll be the winner, EXACT same format as the Hopkins fights.
-
Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
Taylor has an excellent chance of winning the whole thing. Coming in as the underdog where not much is expected of him will actually help him
-
Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
Taylor had more chance of beating Pav and Froch than he has of beating Abraham.
Arthur will be even better at 12st. This will be the fight of the night

....everyone thought extra weight would help Pavlik too and he looked about as good at 168 as Ricky Hatton did at 147

Could be right and I guess we'll know soon enough but both Jermaine and Abraham are natural middleweights anyway. Abraham will have more energy in this fight than he has in his last few but as I say time will tell.
Cant wait
-
Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
The only chance is that Abraham fights at a pace slow enough that Taylor doesn't wear out again. I don't think the move up in weight will be a problem for Abraham, he was killing himself to make 160 and was due to move up anyway. He looked OK at 166 against Miranda. I think Abraham wins, even if Taylor manages to last the pace and does well I don't think he can outbox Abraham enough to win a decision in Germany.

That is true about Pavlik against Hopkins but he beat Taylor in the rematch at 166

But that fight was A LOT closer than the 1st match and I wouldn't be shocked if Taylor beat Pavlik if they were ever to fight again

Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
I can see him winning a 'fans verdict' but not the one that counts. Agree with most that he isnt done though. I still think he has some big wins in him.

Is this true? I read that AA was struggling with coming down to 160, which is why he is moving up to 168...(if i'm reading you correctly). Not sure JT would be that comfortable at 175 either--he's a good puncher, but not his power would translate enough to compete; although, I'd love to see him fight Dawson at a catch weight somewhere in the middle, (provided he fixes his stamina issues).

Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
in my opinion he has this much chance = 0
-
Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
Lets not forget Taylor dropped Froch HARD and buzzed him more than once........Froch didnt pop right up from that knockdown.....He took a knee as long as he could.....Taylor has power and fast hands...He catches Arthur with a shot he dont see and Arthur will go down.........

Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
Abraham is one tough nut and will give Jermaine a good going over.
-
Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
I would love Jermain to win, and I think if he fights a perfect fight he can pull it off but the closer it gets the less I like his chances. A few weeks ago I would have said Taylor had a great chance, but maybe realisitically not so much.
I actually have the feeling Abraham is somewhat overated and will underperform in this tournament so Taylor will have a chance, but I think in Germany, in front of his own fans Abraham will be too much.
We all generally feel that Taylor needs to ko Abraham to win or at least put him down but really Abraham has never once displayed a weak jaw, (even when it almost fell off) and Taylor despite flooring both Pavlik and Froch is not a big puncher really, certainly his career doesn't indicate that.
The irony is that Taylor's best performances have been when he's lost. The first Pavlik fight and the Froch loss are the performances that most of us base his chances on.
but the truth is his 'wins' are actually less impressive. The guy who plodded cluelesslly around the ring against Cory Spinks, who almost lost and was beaten up against Winky Wright, who couldn't finish a junior middleweighti in Ouma who has since lost his last half dozen or so fights etc is hardly a guy you'd think would have any shot at winning this.
The truth is the Jeff Lacy fight is the only fight in the last 5 years or so where Taylor actually won without controversy.
His wins over Hopkins and Spinks are still disputed to this day, most feel he was very lucky indeed to get a draw with Winky, and his performance over Ouma was mediocre at best.
His other fights since then he's lost them all.
A betting man would be unswise to think he could string 6 wins together against such tough opposition now, certainly, his past form has done nothing to merit it.
He's a bit like Audley (although much better) in that we will always say he has the tools, but realisitically he's not going to use them to win.
Abraham for me actually represents his best chance, if he loses this he is not only done in the tournament but I think he will be pulled out and Green brought in.
I am rooting for him, but I won't be expecting.
-
Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
I keep thinking back to the Abraham Vs. Miranda fight. The image of that broken jaw and how Abraham fought through it. Rugged.
Then I recall Taylor slumped in his corner after the first Pavlik fight.
I'm going with Arthur.

Sometimes I think we have a psychic link.
-
Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
I was favoring Arthur, but the more I watch fight highlights and look at the competition each has faced, and the fact that Taylor is said to have trained more for this fight than any other, the more I lean toward Taylor.
Taylor by TKO 7.
-
Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
Constant pressure beats Taylor, and Abraham, whom I feel is overrated, simply does not provide enough of it.
-
Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
I think Taylor beats him. As long as he learns his lesson about burning out early on!
-
Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
I think it will be a similar to fight to the Winky Wright one, but Abraham has more power so will either stop him late or will win the decision seeing as its Germany rather than Memphis.
-
Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
I don't think Abraham is overrated or anything, I just think the strategy he uses is too similar to Bernard Hopkins...he likes for the other fighter to get going so he can start to counter, well JT will take 4 rounds if you give him 4 rounds and in a 12 round fight where JT already has 4 rounds all he needs is 3 more, you're going to have to really press him to KO him and with that good jab and if he has a little better stamina or defense he'll win a decision.
-

I doubt he will get the decision in Germany if it will be as close as Hopkins fights but I agree Jermain has a good chance here, in fact I’ll go with him in this one; like you said AA use to give away a few rounds before he gets going and also he doesn’t have a strong pace like Pavlik or Froch.

i take exception with that; the only significant blow Winky landed was a head butt, which blinded JT on that side, and forced him into survival mode. It was an ugly fight, and Winky kept keying in on that blind eye; JT actually showed a lot of heart and durability in that fight, and Winky showed that he couldn't finish a severely disadvantaged JT.
-
Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
...speaking of Winky why has he disappeared? I know he's older now but at 160-175 he could still contend there.
Anyway, AA is going to find out it's difficult to give rounds away to a guy that can box, it's different when you do it to Edison Miranda who is just a slugger, there's no real threat of Miranda doing his thing over the distance and limiting the damage you do to him.
JT has hurt Kelly Pavlik and Carl Froch, it'll be interesting if he connects big vs Abraham

Agreed.
I think tWinky would have been an excellent addition to the super six, and further would add even more depth and provide some quality competition the 168lbs division. He would have been an excellent gate keeper for the Andre's.
-
Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
imo winky isnt a gatekeeper yet, i think he would beat both andres, lose a close pts to froch, taylor about even and then lose to kessler - but do better than b hop would if he fought kessler.
-
Re: Whats Jermain Taylors Chance Saturday Night?
on another note, i think b hop would be more than willing to participate if someone dropped out, would be amazing!
