Would the Jermain Taylor that beat Hopkins have lost last night?
I say no. He looks totally ring worn now but at the same time I don't want to take anything away from Abraham, I went Taylor and I put money on Taylor and I was well and truly wrong!! Abraham took Taylor out in good fashion and it kind of reminded me of a Hagler type performance.

Re: Would the Jermain Taylor that beat Hopkins have lost last night?
taylor looked absolutely utter shit last night tbh.

Re: Would the Jermain Taylor that beat Hopkins have lost last night?

Re: Would the Jermain Taylor that beat Hopkins have lost last night?
I thought that Taylor would win but AA is very under rated. Still think the Taylor that beat Hopkins would have won. Taylor is shot to pieces.
-
Re: Would the Jermain Taylor that beat Hopkins have lost last night?
No.
Hopkins doesn't have Abrahams power.
I feel sorry for Taylor though, he's a nice guy and has had a decent career. I hope he calls it a day.
-
Re: Would the Jermain Taylor that beat Hopkins have lost last night?
Arthur Abraham fought the way I said he would. He gave up rounds 1-4 just as I said, but I had no idea his power was going to carry up like that.
Jermain has ALWAYS had trouble in the closing moments of fights and early in his career I attributed that to him loading up too much on those looping overhand rights he would throw...but I think the fact is he just has never been good at pacing himself and when you can't pace yourself and you have poor defense and love to stay "in range" the whole fight it's bad news.
I wonder how a Prime Hopkins would do vs a Prime Abraham...that would have been a chess match AND a battle all rolled into one!
-
Re: Would the Jermain Taylor that beat Hopkins have lost last night?
That was a brutal KO. And will alone have lasting effects. Couple that with previous Ko's and you have a man who probably should consider calling it a day.
Abraham, though, that dude has crazy explosive power. He doesn't even use it that much, short bursts, then shells back up but it is effective as hell. If he can explode more often like that in the course of a fight, and add in the guy can still fight on with his broken chin hanging off his skull, that is a scary opponent across from you. Don't care who you are.
-
Re: Would the Jermain Taylor that beat Hopkins have lost last night?
No. And I don't know if I'd call last nights Taylor shot though he might be getting that way.
Hopkins was kind of the perfect fight for Taylor in some ways. He couldn't fight three minutes, he probably shouldn't have been fighting at 160 at that point, etc.

What?... you're out of your freaking mind. guys like hopkins, calzaghe would absolutely embarrass abraham. entirely different class of fighter.

I wouldn't say different class. Fair enough he has more to prove to be mentioned with these guys but he proved his class last night.
I think Lyle's matchup is interesting although I would go for a points win for B-Hop in his prime of course!
-
Re: Would the Jermain Taylor that beat Hopkins have lost last night?
Taylor's wins over Hopkins were more because Hopkins waited until the last 4 rounds to fight, moreso than Taylor being the better fighter.

wow... abraham has become so fucking overrated. even a prime chris eubank would make a monkey out of abraham. can you imagine how many uppercuts eubank would land on abraham?

First of all Eubank in his prime was another class operator, but AA has an awkward style that seems hard to work out and he has carried all his power up with him, all in all making him a very dangerous fighter!

I thought taylor fought well last night. I had it a very close fight until taylor got ko'd.

no... he'd be a fucking sitting duck for a smooth counterpuncher like eubank. jermain taylor was so terrified of getting hit, he abandoned counterpunching altogether.
eubank would be landing powershots from all angles and abraham's face would be a disgusting mess at the end of the fight.

Personally I thought it was close until AA landed first timeand hurt Taylor and had him dancing all over the ring. From then on (8th I think) it was downhill.

Re: Would the Jermain Taylor that beat Hopkins have lost last night?
The taylor that fought hopkins was hungrier, undefeated, and more motivated. He would have beaten AA.
The taylor that fought AA, only won 1 out of 4, and kayoed twice. He got what should have been expected.

Sorry to disagree but JT got rocked by Hopkins late in both of those fights, Abraham has better power than Hopkins.

No I disagree. I think it would be a close fight. Not much to guage Eubank on really he fought the best Europe had to offer and Malinga but never ventured into the likes of Roy Jones, Julian Jackson, James Toney, Mike McCallum, Bernard Hopkins and G-Man so at world class Eubanks resume falls a bit short. With the Super six at least we'll see AA in with other class guys which Taylor was don't forget. He did beat Hopkins twice and no matter what excuses are made Hopkins never figured Taylor out properly in 24 rounds fighting!
Now I don't think for one minute "that" JT was in the ring last night, more a shadow of an old good fighter, but AA showed me some brilliant points, he had his guard up and he has something in it that Winky Wright has in his. He covers his head and the points of his elbows cover where someone would go for the body so they end up head hunting and then he seems to walk them down and land accurate big bombs. Someone who is accurate is always hard to counter the same as someone who wings from distance, kind of like what Froch was doing last night.

He still pulled through and beat hopkins twice. It's something about being undefeated that allows those egos to pull through. Taylor was ruined by pavlik and hasn't responded well to punches since the first fight.

Re: Would the Jermain Taylor that beat Hopkins have lost last night?
No way the Taylor of old would have lost to Abraham! Taylor lost everything when he got rid of Pat Burns his old trainer. Burns pushed him and kept him disciplined. Nelson just treats him like any mother would in the ring and that is exactly what I fighter doesnt need. It was not a couple of flukes when he beat hop, hejust had a good trainer that got in his butt and pushed him, nowa days Taylor has horrible stanima, and absolutly ZERO heart! I honestly hope he doesnt show his face in boxing after this is over. It all comes down to one bone head descsion he made to get rid of the coach that helped him dethrone the man who held them for years. I still cant figure what was going through his mind when he did that, immaturity I suppose!

Maybe but more likely Lou Dibella. Promoters always interfere where they shouldn't!

Re: Would the Jermain Taylor that beat Hopkins have lost last night?
Prime Taylor would still lose to Abraham. Abraham was well ahead on my card. I doubted him but was wrong , really , im saying Abraham beats Kessler if they face off
-
Re: Would the Jermain Taylor that beat Hopkins have lost last night?
Prime Taylor would've had his chin and bad intentions still so there would be a different story. But I don't want to equate that into a Taylor win. I would favor it that way but somebody would get KO'd. As for present tense. I think it would be tragic if Taylor is not excused from the Super Six tournament. His career is over, he is a shell of a fighter, his chin is gone completely, and he needs to be taken away from the sport entirely. He refuses to fight lesser fighters and that is why he has never fully recovered from his first KO loss. Now we have Taylor in danger of being ruined as a normal functioning human being. I hope his promoter and team have a heart and don't allow him to continue his career. This has now gotten sad.

Re: Would the Jermain Taylor that beat Hopkins have lost last night?
I can't call him a shell of a fighter since the only times he has been knocked out are by near prime elite super power punchers. When he starts getting ko'd by lesser fighters, then it's time to mull retirement. he has to stop fighting the elite power punchers. Find some guys to fight who are still eltite, but with less power.

Agree.Have always thought Taylor was a TKO sitting on the doorstep for Hopkins late in the 1st fight. If any Hopkins fight made me horse...it was that one.His arrogance and coasting on greatness bit him on the azz.

Froch is an elite power puncher? ok, lol! I suppose he put air on the canvas last night, but im not so sure about when it comes to hitting others!

Re: Would the Jermain Taylor that beat Hopkins have lost last night?
Sure, provided he trained right and had the same corner that got him the title, otherwise it's like the night he underestimated Pavlik.

The Taylor that fought Hopkins still almost got knocked out in the 12th round. Not so sure it would have been a different result. 12th round KO for Abraham.

I can see every other boxer in this tournament swinging at air too, when they face dirrell. It's not just froch he is going to make look bad.

If he fights Kessler, he will get caught and KO'd!
