Think it will ever happen against the right opponent?
If Chavez Jr can get his beltt there at 154, it's possible.
is pac fighting cotto for his belt at 147?? and how mant weight classes has pac skipped through?
think its a 144/145 catchweight
without taking anything away from the man he won the strap at 135 by fighting a hand picked diaz, and won a 147pound contest over a guy who was way over the hill
Roach isnt stupid - he genuinely believes cotto is now ready for the taking and they can add another huge name to mannys CV. If they win this and floyd doesnt come calling straight away i fully expect manny to put himself in with a 154pound title holder
I think Roach would definitely try this if the right fighter were to have one of the hundred belts.
:lolhaha:
"Z money"
Is that the money that daddy gives you or the two dollars you got for losing to kid thunder?
:vd:
Surely if pacman beats cotto, his next and last fight is due to be against money man at 147. Then pac man will have nothing to prove by getting another belt at another weight. That would just be pushing his luck. Wouldnt it?
He won't get past Floyd if he does get past Cotto, which i'm not sure about anyway. I wish he had fought Oscar at 154lbs, it would have been a different fight then IMO. Not saying he wouldn't have won as I don't want to take anything away from that performance but Oscar was a genuine 154 fighter then and 147 was too much for him!
Hi Lethal, welcome to the site. Agree with you, if Pacquiao beats Cotto and then Mayweather a title at 154 would not add much. It would also carry inherent dangers.
However, if Pac beats Cotto but can't get Mayweather to fight, a title at 154 would become valuable to him. I can't see Pacquiao fighting at 154 though.
Hypertheticly, if Pac Man does lose to Cotto, what a do we recon Pacmans next fight would be?
Khan v Pac Man.
It's been offered before and Khan said no. If he loses to Cotto then he'll take the fight.
Or Clottey...that bloke will take anyone who'll step in the ring with him!
Clottey's fighting at 154 against Quintana (at least until Quintana backs out again) I really don't think Roach would put PAC in with such a durable opponent that doesn't fill the seats at his fights. Nothing against Clottey, he gives an honest effort, even if it's not reflected on the scorecards. But the risk/reward for PAC/Clottey isn't there.
I dont think so, Roach already said that he wouldnt fight mosley at 147 and that Mosley would have to drop weight. So he wouldnt let Pac fight an elite fighter at 154, and if its not an elite fighter than its gonna be a weak pay day, and I think their more concerned with pay day than they are at beating an average fighter that holds one of the 100 belts in a division just to put another feather in their cap.
Another example of thinking ahead for Manny fans. I don't think Manny would ever fight at 154. If so, he will probably start that catch weight shit again. The fact that Manny wanted a catch weight for Cotto clearly shows his concern for Cotto's size and strength. If I am Cotto, I let Manny come to me as opposed to chase him around the ring a la Hatton (although I've seen Ricky Hatton-he's no Miguel Cotto).
