Obama Presidential Pardon for Boxing Champ Jack Johnson?

Re: Obama Presidential Pardon for Boxing Champ Jack Johnson?
I'm not trying to be racist, but does it mean as much if a black president instead of a white president gives Jack Johnson the pardon? It just feels to me that it doesn't demonstrate the proper accountability for what was done to Jack.

Why does it matter? So Johnson's relatives should have to wait another 3 years for a pardon because Obama isn't white
Obama should do it, not because he's black, but because its the right thing to do. That's all there is to it.

Fukkin racist
-
Re: Obama Presidential Pardon for Boxing Champ Jack Johnson?
Well Sen. John McCain and Rep. Peter King are both white... Maybe to really do it right, we should wait for the first Latino or Asian president.
-
Re: Obama Presidential Pardon for Boxing Champ Jack Johnson?
I'm sure Glenn Beck will just say this is yet another of Obama sneeky ways of getting reparations for Africian Americians. Just like healthcare.
Regardless this needs to get done as it's a grave injustice.
-
Re: Obama Presidential Pardon for Boxing Champ Jack Johnson?
I don't agree with the logic that it means less coming from Obama: he represents the nation and is speaking on their behalf no? ???
Even if his race did come into it: He's Half Black and Half Caucasian... so we all win right?;)
-
Re: Obama Presidential Pardon for Boxing Champ Jack Johnson?
Personally i think there way more important shit for the pres to worry about than a posthumous pardon. Things like people being laid off because of the economy and the silly ongoing war...

But if Obama DOESN'T pardon Jack Johnson....what does that mean about old Barry???
I wouldn't expect he would move on this anytime soon, we NEED more troops in Afghanistan and he's taking he sweet fucking time deciding on that, and that's a very pressing issue but apparently he'd rather do TV shows and badmouth Fox News than do any real "deciding".....we need to bring back "The Decider"!!!!

Am I off topic??? I mean I am talking about Obama and how he is having a difficult time with very meaningful decisions as it is, without having to worry about the ramifications if he pardons Jack Johnson

So many more pressing important decisions to be made in the U.S. then worrying about a pardon for something that happened nearly 100 years ago, put this on the far back burner and work on the millions of issues at hand like (JOBS) in the millions that are gone, quit wasting time on an issue that has no merit to waste time on at this time. Mixed races are accepted, but should it consume the government and take away from real pressing issues at this time.

stick to it being strictly about the Jack Johnson pardon, and not about the pointless war in Iraq/Afghanistan

Why are you naysayers acting like this is some huge undertaking that will "consume the government"? That's ridiculous, all he has to do is sign his fucking name and maybe make a short statement, and it's done.

...if Obama can't make his mind up about something serious then why the hell should he worry about pardoning someone who has been dead for nigh on 60 years? I was just making an observation that is pertenant to the topic of this thread so you can fuck off, thank you very much

No you weren't. This the BOXING board. So the topic is Jack Johnson not Obama & his other policies. There's no need to get abusive to ElTerrible just because he thinks it's completely irrelevant to bring up here, particularly when there's at least 2 other boards for this thing. 3 if you include spam, which if you turn this into being about Obama, is where this should end up. ;)
Anyway I agree with Myk Myk, when he's got the time he should definitely do this, it won't take him that long surely.

haven't seem him the agitated since the Wlad/Haye promotions, guess he's a bit bitchy that Vitali is taking the spotlight away from his beloved Wladimir, actually it can't be that seeing how he'd take em both in a 3 way

Re: Obama Presidential Pardon for Boxing Champ Jack Johnson?
Oh I'm sorry Jaz I believe the official thread title is "OBAMA Presidential Pardon for Boxing Champ Jack Johnson".....and therefore don't we kind of have to mention Obama seeing how he is playing the major role in this situation....I mean in the end it's OBAMA's choice on whether or not to pardon Jack Johnson or not, I was just using his previous actions as President to try and figure out how things may go with this.
Are Obama's past actions as President not relevant in predicting his future actions?
And don't come on here and call me out for staying with the topic when YOU attack me for getting OFF topic when I mention David Haye in various threads...you can't have it both ways.

Lyle, you know very well, we've got other boards for this, hell the topic of Obama seems to take up at least 3 threads in the 100+ board at one time.
It's the same as Haye, you look for any excuse to bring him up so you can whinge on about how terrible he is. I'm starting to think you might have a thing for mixed-race men, let's make sure never to meet up :-\

Re: Obama Presidential Pardon for Boxing Champ Jack Johnson?
I asked you a question and you rambled on about Bill Clinton and past Presidents but see they are simply not concerned with this issue any more. 1 person is....well 3 people John McCain who always brings this up fighting the good fight etc., Jack Johnson who is long since dead, and who is the person with the final say ElTerrible????

that being said, how the fuk does the war in Iraq/Afghanistan factor in? yea it doesn't, again, nice try bud, but a huge FAIL
-
Re: Obama Presidential Pardon for Boxing Champ Jack Johnson?
Well OK, you guys don't want to play along...I'll just go ahead type out my final FINAL post in this thread and we'll be done
#1 The answer to my question is OBAMA. Barrack Obama has the final say in the Presidential Pardon of Jack Johnson.
#2 I was going to ask you if you would describe Obama as "decisive" or "indecisive" when it comes to any political problems he encounters
#3 The correct answer would be that Barrack Obama is INDECISIVE that is concluded from his failures to act on certain important situations affect the entire world right as we sit here typing and reading.
#4 My point is that Barrack Obama is indecisive and fails to act on even the big issues and therefore it will be a long time before we hear an answer on this if we hear one at all.
I want to just throw my 2 cents in on this whole issue, Jack Johnson has been dead for a long time, he was the first African-American Heavyweight Champion of the World and I think enough time has passed that all whom would be affected by any decision to pardon the late Champ are dead as well and therefore Obama shouldn't even have to think about it, just stamp him pardoned and then think he could have a press conference with McCain and that would be viewed as a solid BIPARTISAN bridge building political move (by a few people).
Also, politically he can't catch hell for being soft on crime (and his party is NOTORIOUSLY soft on crime) by pardoning a dead guy, it's not like Zombie Jack Johnson is going to come around gathering up all the white women prostitutes and dragging them across state lines again.
But once again I digress, Obama is currently very slow to act on much of anything.

still doesnt change the fact jack johnson is dead, the pardon is pointless. The people that did it arent going to jail because they got away with. Jack's already lost that time out his life when he had to flee the country. Did I already say HE'S FUCKING DEAD. So who cares anyway? That's my point....How about a pardon for guys that are actually still alive suffering from corrupt judicial system?

thats my point is that, it has taken this long for it to happen. Thats what I am mad about that none of the white presidents actually went out and gave the man a pardon when he was treated the way he was. If Obama gives him the pardon its great, but it should have been done years ago.

Fukkin racist
I am racist because I don't feel its a black man's job to clean up an embarrassing mess us white people made? It shouldn't have taken this long for the pardon to happen, a black man being pardoned for being black by a black man doesn't make sense to me when it was our racist ancestors who commited this attrocity among others, and thats the point, this represents symbolically represents something very important and yet like I've said already, no white president has followed through with the pardon.

Please God, dont be thinking about any medals or accolades for Ruben Carter! There's still way too many unanswered questions in his case, Many insiders don't believe the large % of the worlds hype through Dylans song on that one, or the film.
