Why is Dawson fighting Johnson again?
He Beat Tarver and then fought him again. He's already beaten Johnson and now he's fihgting him again. 4 fights in a row at a key stage of his career against Tarver and Johnson

Re: Why is Dawson fighting Johnson again?
The reason is he had a fight with his mandatory (at the time) Tavoris Cloud lined up but HBO weren't interested in it and instead wanted Johnson.
They offered Dawson $150,000 for the Cloud fight and $800,000 for the Johnson fight.
Guess what he chose? ;)

Re: Why is Dawson fighting Johnson again?
Nobody else to fight....simple as
HBO dont see anyone capable of giving dawson a fight other than hopkins who`d be far too much for him

Re: Why is Dawson fighting Johnson again?
The first fight was very close as well. In a shocking reaction many fans called robbery when Dawson got the nod over Johnson. And when I say shocking I mean it in the most sarcastic way possible without inflection.

lol
Many including myself scored it dead even
Johnson fighting 3minutes a round really bothered dawson who struggled to get many solid shots off!

I'd rather see him against Cloud. I watched him against Gonzalez, a guy with a real iron jaw and he pummelled him very impressively!
In fact I think that might be the most interesting fight at LHW at the minute (outside old men).

Dawson has to fight cloud in 2010, but I have a suspicion that the winner of this fight will end up facing B-Hop first.

I think Dawson will win a bit easier this time as he will probably have improved slightly and Johnson is getting older and older. But it's looking more and more likely that the new super active version of Roy Jones may fight Hopkins next year so Hopkins won't fight again for 12 months minimum win or lose becasue he's got one lined up too I think before he faces Jones and he only likes one a year.

What do you mean by has to?
There's no IBF link for them now.

Re: Why is Dawson fighting Johnson again?
Well it makes way more sense to fight Johnson again than it does Tarver. Other than the money I think the reason hes fighting him again is because hes looked at the tape and knows that he probably lost to him first time so he wants to exact revenge. I had Johnson winning 8-4 first fight, although there were 5 close rounds and I gave 4 of them to Johnson. Im gona watch it again in preperation for this rematch but I remember thinking that it would be a bit cheeky for Dawson to get anymore than a draw out of it. Johnson deserves another shot and I like the fight.
-
Re: Why is Dawson fighting Johnson again?
He fought Tarver again solely because the rematch clause was invoked, different situation.
-
Re: Why is Dawson fighting Johnson again?
HBO are paying almost a third of the cost of staging a Super Six tournament to show Chad Dawson in a rematch that nobody really wants to see. Again. Add the cost of the Tarver and Johnson rematches together and you've got half a SS tournament paid for. And they've signed a long-term exclusive deal with GBP only to see all their prospects' bubbles burst in short order and now are contractually bound to show ancient GDP people like Hopkins till 2011. The entire HBO boxing executive staff need to be fired. Any Saddo regular could do an infinitely superior job in his spare time than the head of HBO boxing does.

Re: Why is Dawson fighting Johnson again?
Word to your mom! I came to drop bombs!
-
Re: Why is Dawson fighting Johnson again?
It was a close fight and was exciting to watch. That was the nearest to seeing Dawson lose.

I didn't mean it in a contractual way, more of a valley girl way.

I don't think that's fair, Chad beat Adamek, G. Johnson, Tarverx2, I think he's way better than Jermain Taylor or Kelly Pavlik, and IMO he would give Hopkins all he could handle with that ridiculous handspeed, and because he goes to the body and I've always thought that was the one place you could land on Hopkins.

I agree with you Taeth. Dawson has a very solid resume and he is very capable of beating BHop. Dawson is a very good fighter who has proven his worth. Dawson is the real deal and he keeps on proving this. He's the one who wanted the BHop fight.

Re: Why is Dawson fighting Johnson again?
why the hell does dawson get so much shit for fighting top ranked fighters? are you seriously telling me diaconu and cloud are better fighters than glen johnson?
the rematch here is justified anyway

Well I want to see it, and it sounds like others do as well. I think Glen deserves it. #1 was close enough to feel unresolved in my mind, and I enjoyed it. For sure if the judges that judged Froch v Dirrell had judged it (assuming there was no bias), Johnson would have gotten the nod. He is good at forcing a fight; which makes him enjoyable to watch.
-
Re: Why is Dawson fighting Johnson again?
I have no issue with this fight either. The first fight was very close and Johnson deserves a final shot. If he wins then great, if not Dawson can then go looking for new blood.
It's not like the first fight was a thumping bore.

Re: Why is Dawson fighting Johnson again?
Bad Chad is fighting The Road Warrior again cuz he almost got punked the 1st time:hypnotized: & everyones been calling for a return
Nard didn't want him yet & Cloud wasn't worth the pennies:p yet
Dawson has something to prove here & has manned up:appl:

You're going to see exactly the same fight again. Dawson will scrape it but Johnson will have his moments and will look disgusted when Dawson gets the decision.

Re: Why is Dawson fighting Johnson again?
Dawson needs to win convincingly
It could set up a fight with the Hopkins-Jones winner
Hopkins wants to replicate what Foreman did at 45 by winning a championship & the Dawson fight would give him the chance:lickish:
-
Re: Why is Dawson fighting Johnson again?
Johnson is the only fighter HBO would approve. So it Dawson want to make the big bucks, he has to do what they say.

True
There was also a calling for a return from boxing fans & media alike:clap:
Before Chad could move on he had to deal with the unfinished business
-
Re: Why is Dawson fighting Johnson again?
a lot of people thought johnson won or maybe a draw so i think HBO is giving dawson the chance to show people that the "gift" decision wasn't a mistake.

Holy Crap. I agree with Taeth on something! I better have a cab pick me up from work and wear my anti-lightning helmet the rest of the day.

Which makes me wonder why the hell he had to fight Tarver again??? :P

Re: Why is Dawson fighting Johnson again?
The first Dawson - Johnson match was actually a very good fight and a close one also. I scored it a draw.
The Tarver rematch was a joke, It only happened because Tarver had a rematch clause in the first fight contract.

Tarver invoked the rematch clause:dontknow: he already go his ass kicked but wanted a second helping I guess
I think Dawson & his team were trying to avoid Johnson but couldn't get a bigger fight:boxedin:

If HBO had said they weren't interested in it it would never have happened.

Re: Why is Dawson fighting Johnson again?
So now the original question has been answered several times: HBO wants it.
-
Re: Why is Dawson fighting Johnson again?
To answer the original question, i actually have no idea. I guess there are some who think johnson actually won the first fight. I don't see how but to each thier own. looking at the first fight and judging it by each round dawson won clearly i think, but if you look at the fight as a whole i still don't see it but maybe i guess. Johnson will do what he always does flat footedly follow dawson around watching him throw shots (landing or not) throw a couple back loose the decision and then cry about it. What else is new.
