Well, I called it. But credit to Cotto.
Not to say I told you so, but I did :)
Ever since this fight has been signed i've been very open about what I felt was gonna happen and it seemed right on the money tonight.

Boxing is more mental then physical, and Cotto mentally isn't the same fighter and at this point in his career he needs more then one tough fight back after what mentally scarred him in the Margarito fight. Pacquiao is gonna re-open that scar and implant a preferment memory in Cotto, and it's one he won't come back from. Not this fight.
That's why I didn't order the fight (I went to watch it at a neighbors house instead lol)
But I do give credit to Cotto that he didn't want the fight to be stopped, and I think this loss to Pacquiao may be the confidence boost he needed to get back to what he can get through. He even in taking a beating proved to himself that he can stay in there and take the punishment, the doubts about it in the Margarito fight he was afraid of happening again, well it happened but this time he didn't quit and didn't fold, he wanted to finish the fight on his feet and I give Cotto all the credit in the world for that. Cotto gained a fan in me tonight by his heart. As far as Pacquiao goes, he did what I thought he would, still a fan but I'm more of a Cotto fan after tonight.
So big big big credit to Cotto tonight, he lost in a one sided fashion that I thought he would but he never quit, and I think that is what he needed to know about himself.

1. Bayliss is a cunt. Did I misshear any instructions at the start of round 12 by him saying to Cotto, take one more punch and I'm stopping the fight. No. He deserved to see out the round.
2. Cotto CAN adapt but he was his own worst enemy. We saw it in part last night and we've seen it before, Manny can be outboxed, he should have stuck to that and walked a decision, he tried to make it exciting and when two solid fighters start opening up anything can happen.
Cotto lacked the mental discipline to fight smart for 12.
Ali is held up as an icon for fighting the way he fought, anyone else do that and they're a runner or negative.

The thing with Manny is that he can be such a whirlwind that the gameplan just goes out of the window for the opponent. Cotto started well, but it all went out of the window in the second when Manny just became demonic. Then getting dropped in the third. To be fair Cotto seemed to be doing alright in the fourth but then another KD and the fight was over from that point on. Cotto was unable to keep it going for a whole 3 minutes a round like he did in the first. As soon as the combinations started coming at him, he seemed lost. From midway we saw the occasional decent jab and punches at the gloves of Manny, but there was nothing that seemed to be making any serious dent. I was impressed with Manny's chin more than anything, Cotto landed a couple of decent uppercuts and pounded at the body, but no response from Pac. It was strange.
Pac has moved up and not only kept his speed, but his chin and power has improved. It's a potent mixture of attributes. I actually think a Mayweather fight would be closer than I originally thought. Hatton gave Mayweather problems for the first 5 rounds. Hatton is slower than Manny, and lacks his punch variety, output and chin. Mayweather will counter him well, but I really don't know if Mayweather can keep him off anymore. Pacs work rate is so high and Mayweather really doesn't like to work all that hard. It's a fight that I just don't know about now.

Whew, I was scared during the first three rounds. I thought Pac would be TKOed fighting toe to toe with Cotto.

In terms of punch speed I thought they were equal, the difference was pacs better footwork in terms of getting outside Cottos lead leg. The second knockdown pretty much sealed it. Cotto knew he wouldn't be able to fully open up from that point on.

i think i saw a few people claiming that pac has bad footwork....
i was scared for pac when he let cotto punch him. i was asking myself why pac was eggin cotto to trap him on the ropes. cotto is a scary dude he punches hard, probably the strongest pac tasted so far.
in a way letting cotto punch him atleast proved that he can take the punch and maybe so haters will have one less excuse as to why pac won.
i cant ask for more from pac!
btw what does a boxer do after a fight? rest? go to the hospital? not for pac, an hour after the bout he went immediately to his concert! damn dude is full of energy!

For sure, he is an ATG but, he is fighting another next (i hope) and this time Pac will fall short of being able to drag Mayweather into a brawl and will be countered heavily throughout and stopped around rounds 8 or 9 IMO.

Try to see the ESPN interview. He said Cotto shots were powerful but he tried not show him (Cotto) that he was hurt. The man's got balls...major. See Pacman's face? Hewas marked as well.

Pac's footwork is absolutely incredible, and really that is what enables him to throw so many solid punches, undetected if you like. He's thrown three or four punches at your from three or four diff angles and then gets out before you have chances to get in position for a response. Uppercut, right, left, right hook, all from a different standing point, crazy.

are u actually saying cotto could've won a decision here?? :confused: i don't know what fight u were watching but pacquiao was out-doing him at all distances in almost every round. cotto won two, possibly three, rounds max.
and that stoppage was fine, cotto was receiving a beating in those last few rounds.

Miguel Cotto is all heart, my only hope is that he can recover and that he learned something from this fight "You can't walk through everyone". Cotto is fearless and it hurts him sometimes, but it has also helped him, like in the Torres fight.
Manny Pacquiao is world class and I think titles in 7 different weight classes is one of the most impressive feats in boxing history. I am not sure if the 145 weight limit had any affect mental or physical on Cotto, but Pacquiao put on a hell of a show and just like Cotto had no excuses, I make no excuses for Pacquiao, that was very impressive considering the only other guy to beat Cotto probably had loaded gloves when he did it.
I am not sure HOW Floyd Mayweather Jr will beat Pacquiao but I figure he will...I would love nothing more than Floyd to get sparked out but he's so good and slick on defense.

Pacquiao just outboxed Cotto and grinded him down methodically; Cotto did well in the first 3-4 rounds though but Pacquiao quick outburst and speed out speed in from all the angles were way too much for Cotto. Actually, Cotto won 2 rounds at most, which says a lot. Roach did an incredible job to work Pacman uppercuts and left hands which they knew Cotto would be vulnerable to. On the other hand, just as I thought, Santiago didn't do enough for Cotto and was mostly panicking in the corner rather than trying to quiet down Cotto and to get him back to the proper focus and to let him to carry the proper strategy.
Thus said, I will disagree that Cotto was still hurt from Margarito's defeat mentally; He was confident and was willing to last the full 12 rounds but he got very frustrated by Manny's speed and biggest number of punches landed and his focus went by the window a bit and Santiago was helpless for the task.

pac indeed prepared for the body punches cotto was going to feed him. as he said to jimmy kimmel that using a stick [beating his abs, sides] as part of his training was a mind conditioning.. anticipating pain in any given chances..

Cotto got a hiding a real hiding, gutsy man.
I like how Manny has some sort of 'tracer type of a cross' that follows the path of the target as he opens up, it gives it room and as he moves his punch goes to where someones head finishes even if their head is moving in closer to Manny he creates the room to deal with it totally.
