More good news. I like the Mayweather Snr talk too lol "When it's time for us to fight, I'm going to show you all who the master is". I think he wants revenge on Roach as much as Floyd Jnr wants to beat Pac.
I'm getting excited about this now, I just hope it all goes through without any problems!
Its a good sign if Mayweather wants the fight. I don't really care who gets what percentage, as long as the fight gets made, but i just hope that neither man gets too greedy and prevents what would be one of the biggest fights of all time from happening
Why don't they make it interesting and say the winner gets a 70/30 split. Put your wallet where your mouth is
This is an Awesome sign and further tells me that Mayweather is anxious to beat Pac, him and his father must see the stylistic matchup overwhelmingly in their favor... Well that and the bizillion dollar payday;D
2 things I take exception to at the end of the article
1) that Floyd should be lucky to get 50/50
2) That Pac is the bigger draw if the numbers exceed PBF/JMM, which is completely idiotic seeing that Cotto is a wildly popular fighter and JMM has never been a draw, so the majority of the success was do to Floyd.
we will only no after the official numbers are revealed wether pac cotto did more than floyd marquez. i think it should be a staight up 50 50 split regardless cause niether fighter will want too give up there ego.plus a 50 50 split for both fighters is better than a 90 10 split for any other match out there. i believe this fight will happen, it has too
Wow, I still think Floyd deserves more considering his dominating numbers against common opponents but it doesnt matter so long as this fight happens.
Do you really think Floyd will fight Pac? I don't think Floyd has the bollocks frankly, he won't fight guys like Williams or Mosley(his fans will probably say they are not popular enough "cough marquez") so why would he fight Pac?
He will just demand more cash or carry on this "I won't work with Arum shit" just you wait and see.
There's no way he can do that without having his reputation torn apart though. At this point, in terms of legacy, Mayweather needs Pacquiao much more than Pacquiao needs him. Pacquiao has established himself as an all-time great and if Mayweather wants the honor of being considered the greatest of his generation, he'll have to fight Pacquiao. If Mayweather refuses any reasonable offer from the Pacquiao camp his reputation and legacy will be in tatters.
You're wrong dude. This fight will happen, mark my words. Didn't you see the other thread where Floyd already initiated negotiations? I'm not a big fan of Floyd, but to say he is scared of Manny is ridiculous. The money is tto big, and the hype is also. This is exactly the type of fight he is looking for, and he will win it too.
Also, you know it's just driving Floyd crazy to hear everybody calling manny the best fighter in the world.
I see the speed being a huge issue for Floyd, if Zab can win rounds againsed him I have no reason to think Manny can't do it for an entire fight.
If it happens it will be fucking MAHOOSIVE, but I seen a quote on Roger saying "lil Floyd would whup him, but he should not fight him"
Floyd will fight Manny next, it is a dead set certainty. Pacman is now universally recognised as the best PFP fighter in the world, it must be eating the pretty boy up inside. March or April 2010 we will really see how good PBF is, stylistically Pacquaio is a nightmare for Floyd, theoretically is shouldn't be, but Pacquaio is no ordinary slugger. He is awkward, very fast and has power in both hands. Pac got hit in this fight and was hurt, his ear looked bad and i didn't like his swollen hand, (has he broken it?) In any case a Floyd V Pacman fight will be the event of the year in 2010
50/50 purse split at 147lbs job done
Mayweather will fight Pacquaio, there is just too much money involved.....This would be a difficult fight to pick the winner....Pacquaio just keeps getting better and better. I would favor Mayweather in the fight though......by decision...
I am a big fan of PBF, his boxing that is. I don't like his personality so much, but that has nothing to do with his boxing IMO. It's just funny to me how he is expected to not negotiate fights or wait until he gets what he is asking for. People expect him to bow to some sense of machismo and say "I don't want people to talk about me and say that I was scared to fight Pac, so I'll do whatever it takes [read: take less money that I know I deserve] to make the fight happen." Why is that pressure on on Pac who know is being mentioned as an all time great? Why don't people say "Pac, just give Mayweather what he wants so you can prove that you're the best."
I'm sure that if I was a promoter, I would constantly put out stories about Mayweather being scared and not wanting to fight so that he would be compelled to take the fight and less money. That's the business side-PR, posturing and politics. Floyd is not the one that turned this boxing business into a boxing business, but I respect that he knows that it is a business and won't work for less pay than he knows he should get.
To say that Floyd ducks fights is ridiculous to me. What is true is that he hasn't been made offers that are good enough to take certain fights. If he was offered what he wants and then turned them down, I would say he was ducking fights. Here's what I would call ducking:
1) If Floyd is asked "What will it take to make a fight happen?"
2) Floyd asks for a specific deal as far as $$ and % go
3) He is offered what he wants exactly
4) He still doesn't take the fight
I can't say that he's ducking anyone if they won't pay him what he wants to make a fight.
DC, that completely takes out of the equation the concept of pricing yourself out, if Floyd insists on something like 60/40 and won't take any less he's pricing himself out since he knows they won't take that.
Not that I think he'll do that. There will be a ton of jibber jabber, at various times in the process fans of each fighter will accuse the other guy of ducking, melodramatics and histrionics will ensue, and then the fight will be made because its simply too much money to leave on the table. Its the way things go (see OMGZ Pacquiao is pricing himself out of the Hatton fight, see OMGZ Pacquaio insists on 142 for Cotto fight, etc., etc.), I guarantee you there will be a point in the negotiations where this forum goes nuts about one fighter supposedly ducking and then the fight will eventually go through, its almost as easy a prediction as the outcome of Jones/Calzaghe was.
As most have said this fight has to be 50/50 or like I heard on this talk show tonight 45/45 10% going to the winner. There is no reason for this fight not to happen. Floyd says he is doing it for the money. There is no bigger fight to be made and he will not make anything close to what he makes vs. Pac. Manny's team has already been vocal especially Roach that we want Floyd. The public wants it. It will be a record breaker.
No more excuses, Pac has earned his keep to have a fair share. Pac has cemented his legacy as far as I am concerned. Floyd on the other hand has not, at least in 147. Pac has had one legit fight at 147 and I believe it has trumped what Floyd has done in the division. Pac doesn't need this fight, that being said if they were to fight well Wow!
People make it seem as if Pac wants the fight badly. Larry Merchan asked him TWICE yesterday if he wanted to fight Floyd and he stuttered "Aaaah, well...uuuumh...I have to talk with my promoters about it" and the second time "aaah, eeeerrr...well....uuuuumh...oh, I will take a vacation and have fun".
The thing that annoys me about internet boxing fans is the way they ignore the reality. Floyd being a bigger PPV draw entitles him to more money, no matter the reason he is a bigger PPV draw (Prob cause he is american) just because you like pacman more and think his in ring achievements are better does not mean that he should get an equal amount of the monety.
It's silly that this fight will probably not happen because Floyd is to proud to accept anything less than he is entitled to.
The smaller PPV draw HAS TO recieve the smaller percentage of the purse.
PAcman is now P4P number 1 without doubt! but he is not PPV number 1 Floyd and Arguably Ricky still outsell him with PPV numbers! so unless they start charging for PPV in the philipines PPV wise PAcman does not bring much to the table!
I mean I am pretty sure in AMERICA even Cotto is a bigger PPV draw and considering that America may well be the only country the fight is PPV in, how can Pac demand more just because he is a fan favourite? what about the majority who watch the fights who happen to be casuals tuning in to see Mayweather and hi big mouth get shut?
If you really want to see this fight we must now be reasonable and realistic.
I'm not sure why you get annoyed? The fact is, if they fight each other we could be talking $70-$80 million to split between themselves, otherwise they will fight Mosley for probably a $10 million share.
It doesn't take a genius to see that by fighting each other they can make more money than in three or four other fights alone. Floyd is all about the money so he says and in that case, regardless of the split, it makes zero sense for him not to make this fight. I think now it can actually be argued that Pacquiao is the bigger draw.
There's no way this fight doesn't get made, there's just too much money involved. When you consider that a close Floyd points win is the likely scenario there's a good chance of a rematch, so they could end up grossing over a quarter of a billion dollars for two fights. The only real option for either of them is Mosley, only a fraction of the earning potential. You can argue about which one of them is the bigger draw but one can't do without the other, you need two to make a fight and the only way either of them can make the money they'll make fighting each other is to fight each other. They'll eventually agree on 50/50 but Floyd can still boast he gets more because he's a co-promoter, or at least technically he is. There'll be a whole period of it's on/it's off stories but just to build the fight up, when they get Christmas out of the way and people aren't distracted they'll announce IT'S ON! and we'll get to see it next year.
That's just talk. He's talking crazy so that whoever is going to promote knows that when they get the money together, he better bring it. IMO, give the promoter more leverage to negotiate his deals which EVERYONE is going to want a piece of. There will be so many damn logos on the apron you won't be able to tell what color it is.
Not that I think he'll do that. There will be a ton of jibber jabber, at various times in the process fans of each fighter will accuse the other guy of ducking, melodramatics and histrionics will ensue, and then the fight will be made because its simply too much money to leave on the table. [QUOTE=OumaFan;811352] I think we can all agree that this fight is going to happen. The buildup has been ridiculous, but I think it won't be Floyd's next fight unfortunately. I think he will look for one more first, but I really hope that he doesn't. I do want him to be ready. I do think that he's been in the gym all this time, but I don't want any excuses. If he needs one more fight, then so be it.
